What is a "Pixie-Bob" ?? According to legend, the large, brown-spotted Tabby with the big feet, bobbed tail, wild look and (usually) gentle personality can trace it's ancestry back to a cross between a wild North American Bobcat and a domestic barn cat. Whether or not this is true, the Pixie-Bob bears a striking resemblance to the native American Bobcat. Despite it's wild heritage, the Pixie Bob is a truly domesticated cat.Originally developed in Washington State by Carol Ann Brewer, this beautiful, intelligent and affectionate breed has found it's way into the hearts (and laps) of cat lovers everywhere. Polydactyl (many toed) paws are a common occurrence in the breed, and these larger paws add to the breed's wild look, but do not hinder it's ability to get around. Loyal, trustworthy, gentle, affectionate, & almost "dog-like", Pixie Bobs thrive on human attention and prefer the comforts of home to the call of the wild. If you're looking for a big, loveable, lug of a cat with a unique appearance, the Pixie-Bob might be the cat for you. I must add, however - Jamelie is NOT a registered Pixie-Bob! He is actually closer to what is refered to as a "legend cat"..... He was born on a farm in Schulenburg, Texas to a black & white barn cat - there is not another (male) cat in the vicinity so his father is unknown. There has been spotted during times that coincide with the barn cat being in heat some paw prints/tracks going thru the property that are just too large to in any way be a usual domesticated feline.... The littlers born after this mysterious visitor have all been very unusual cats! The kittens are either bob-tailed or completely without a tail, they have a tendency to have extra toes all around, and grow up to be the most unusual and loving animals you could imagine, I have been fortunate to have had 2 of them, and a close friend here also had 2 - all of them were from different litters over a 5 year period - and all were the most wonderful cats one could hope for... From thier unusual was of vocalizing, to thier large size, and of course thier ultra high level of intelligence and reasoning abilitieds, we were all honored & proud to own what we called "Shulenburg Kitties" - Unfortunately is was exactly a week neutering my two male kittens that I was introduced to the world of Pixie-Bobs.... And yes, I am considering cloning!!! |
