Well, The Truth Behind Historical Films, my book-in-progress, aims to provide all the answers. It takes a look at some of the most popular films of recent years, whether blockbusters like Gladiator or low-budget gems like Ken Loach's Land and Freedom, and explains, in layman's terms, which bits were true and which were made up. There's also a useful historical background, a look at the film's dramatic merits and a 'what happened next' section for the interminably curious.
