DICTIONARY

Do you sometimes notice a name or concept in Star Wars you don't know anything about? Or perhaps you'd like to know more about some character. This page is for that. I've listed here several persons, places, ships, creatures and anything in any way related to Star Wars. I hope you find here some new information about this wonderful world, that was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

The times defined in these pages are relative to Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope, which is year 0, meaning that negative number states so and so many years before Episode IV.

I wish to remind that these pages are highly unofficial and may have some inaccuraties. I, Tomi Kalevi Kaunisto of Mänttä, Finland, apologise for any errors on these pages and beg Lucasfilm(tm) not to sue my pants off. Feel free to mail me about any really bad mistakes.

Special thanks to Matthew Justice (whoever and whereever he is). A SW timeline of his has been a helpful source of information for me.

Major SPOILER WARNING !!!

These pages have serious spoilers about many books, comics and of course all the movies.

My system of alphabeticing is little from chaotic, so do check by first- and lastname.

News

16.6.2002
This is my new News section which will be most of the time telling you, that I haven't updated for ages. Most notable news point right now is, that I just saw Episode II, so there'll be couple new things here next time I get around really updating (but nothing you didn't see in the movie).

6.9.2002
Move to this location complete (more or less).

15.2.2003
OK, this site is NOT updated. But this page isn't dead, only sleeping...

21.9.2003
Added pic to Mos Eisley, just to prove the previous comment.

18.10.2003
Several little fixes here and there; mostly about assumed actors of Episode III

30.1.2005
Minor updates. More coming soon.
(maybe I'll finally gather few good pics to put here...)

15.6.2005
Fixed obvious conflicts with Episode III. Now that the saga has ended I'll be working on this.

19.6.2006
After a year of no updates and the rise of numerous better and more practical SW sites (and Wikipedia), I think it's time to declare that
THIS PAGE IS DEAD.
There may come moments in the future when I'll be ispired to continue this project, but in general we're done here.

I started making this 1998 when internet was so different (not to mention our view of Star Wars). At that time there seemed to be a need for a page like this; maybe there really was. But now time has raced by like Anakin in his pod and this era is over.
I can't help wondering how many people visited here along the years... (there were some breaks and times without counter)

PS. I make the very last (for now) little edit on Boba Fett, since he always has been my favourite character.

2-1B (Too-Onebee)

The medicaldroid in SW5:TESB scene where Luke is in bactatank. The same droid is is seen in the end testing Luke's new hand.

4-Lom

In Episode V played by ?

A droid bounty hunter. Seen in Episode V on the scene where Vader talks to group of bounty hunters. He's the one next to Bossk.
Killed by Boba Fett soon after SW5:TESB
(except how dead can a droid be?).

Ask Aak

A three-eyed senator of Malastare.

Admiral Ackbar

In Episode VI played by Tim Rose

Admiral Ackbar is the leader of Mon Calamari fleet in attack against the second Death Star. Has been working in many tasks for the Rebellion and New Republic.

In one point (happens about year 9) Ackbar is suspected to be traitor (by few senators of New Republic, not our friends, who know Ackbar well).

Later he leaves his position on New Republic to return to work on his homeworld.

Alderaan

Home planet of family Organa. This paradise-like, peaceful, unarmed world was destroyed by the first Death Star in Episode 4: A New Hope.

(Much) later is mentioned a place called New Alderaan, where some of Solo family lived atleast some time. Jem Ysanna dies when dark jedis attack there in attemp to capture Solo kids. After this imperial troops take over the planet.

Mas Amedda

In Episodes I to III played by ?

Supreme Chancellor's majordomo.

(Queen/Senator) Padme Amidala

In Episodes I to III played by Natalie Portman

Born about -46. Died in episode III. Daughter of Ruwee and Jabal, sister of Sola. Wife of Anakin Skywalker, mother of Luke and Leia.

Queen and later senator of planet Naboo.

Her cover identity in Episode I is called Padme Naberrie.

See Panaka.

Anakin Skyvalker

Anakin Solo

Third child of Han and Leia Solo. Born at year 10. Force is strong with him, like his mother, uncle and grandfather, after whom he's named. Thus we can assume that he will become a great jedi, trained by Luke.

Han originally had plans to name him Han junior, but Leia made the decision.

For more info see the "Young Jedi Knights" novels.

Anchorhead

A little settlement in Tatooine near Owen's farm. There's a power station, where Luke used to hang out with his friends when he lived with his foster parents.

Kevin J. Anderson

Author of Jedi Search, Dark Apprentice and Champions of the Force (the Jedi Academy -trilogy).

Also known for many non-SW works like the new prequels to Frank Herbert's Dune.

Wedge Antilles

In Episodes IV to VI played by Dennis Lawson

Wedge is possibly the greatest pilot hero of the Rebellion ever. In movies Wedge is seen in every important fighter battle.

In battle of Yavin (Episode IV) Wedge is Red 2. His name is mentioned in movie so many times, that I don't bother to explain exact scenes.

In battle of Hoth (Episode V) Wedge is Rogue 3. His gunner is called (Wes?) Janson and was played by Ian Liston. They're the ones who "trip" that AT-AT.

In battle of Endor (Episode VI) Wedge is in his most decisive role. He's the X-wing that with Millennium Falcon blows up the second Death Star.

Wedge may be from Corellia, not sure.

Later gets really frienly with Qwi Xux.

More info about Wedge Antilles (and the rogue squadron) in X-wing novels and X-wing: Rogue Squadron comics.

Artoo-Detoo

astromech droid

AT-AT -Walkers

All Terrain Armored (or was it Attack?) Transport

The mighty imperial warmachines seen in battle of Hoth. Possibly the toughest thing on groung battle seen in Star Wars movies. Thought, they have their weakness: feet. Besides, the smaller two-legged version (AT-ST or ST-AT; can't remember which) isn't so great opponent as we see in Endor.

Later is also mentioned MT-AT, Mountain Terrain... Those are like giant spiders.

A-wing

A rebel fighter. Fast and designed to fight primarily to fighters. Used in battle of Endor when one badly hurt, dying A-wing destroyed Vader's Super Star Destroyer by crashing to it's bridge (only in movie, not in book by the way).

Balmorra

A weapon manufacturing planet. Governor Beltane of Balmorra joined to rebels at 10.

bantha

A draft animal that looks like a giant yak. Seen in Episode IV and (at least) the special edition of Episode VI. Sandpeople use them.

General Garm Bel Iblis

General Bel Iblis is one of the highest rebel leaders. Before Episode IV Garm Bel Iblis, Bail Organa and Mon Mothma were in command of the Alliance. In some point they just started to disagree about things and Bel Iblis resigned the Alliance. He gathered some troops of his own and took care of his own business.
Garm Bel Iblis joined the New Republic forces again about year 9 during the occasion involving grand admiral Thrawn.

Ben Kenobi

Aunt Beru (Whitesun / Lars)

In Episodes II and III played by ?

In Episode IV played by Shelagh Frazer

Foster mother of Luke, wife of Owen. Was killed by imperial troops in Episode IV.

Bespin

The place where is the tibanna gas mine.

Bib Fortuna

In Episode I played by ?

In Episode VI played by Michael Carter

This quite uncharming alien is the pink servant of Jabba seen in Episodes I and VI. I've also seen him in a comic called "Jabba the Hutt: Dynasty Trap".

Bib Fortuna is actually same species as Oola the dancer. His tentacles (or whatever are those things in backs of their heads) just are wrapped around his neck.

Biggs Darklighter

In Episode IV played by Garrick Hagon

Biggs was Luke's friend, a couple year older then him. Thus, Biggs had been to Academy, while Luke was still stuck in Tatooine. He got some new friends there and desided to join the Rebellion.

He meets Luke once in Anchorhead just before we first see young Skywalker in movie version of Episode IV. Biggs has taken a job as the first mate of a ship called Rand Ecliptic. The whole ship defected to join Alliance. Biggs and Luke meet again at 4th moon of Yavin before the Death Star battle. This scene was cut out of movie. In battle Biggs was on sign Red-3. Vader kills him in Luke's attack run to destroy Death Star. This makes Biggs Darklighter the last rebel who dies in that battle and in whole Episode IV.

(Jaster Mereel aka) Boba Fett

In Episode II played by ?

In Episodes V and VI played by Jeremy Bulloch
(and Episode IV Special Edition)

Boba Fett is the most well-known bounty hunter of Star Wars.

Version 1
based on some comics and books
His original name was Jaster Mereel (I'd bet you didn't know that). He lived in Concord Down, but was exiled for killing a man.

Version 2
based on episode II
Boba is a clone of Jango Fett. Unlike the other clones of Jango, who were the first army of Old Republic, Boba is an unprogrammed perfect clone: Jango's son, one might say.

It has later been retconned that Fett lived for time under the identity of the real Mereel.

Fett is the guy in "Empire Strikes Back" who follows Millennium Falcon to tibanna gasmines and delivers carbonitefrozen Han Solo to Jabba the Hutt. Between episodes V and VI he possibly kills IG-88 (at least Fett destroys his ship) and 4-Lom. In "Return of the Jedi" Boba Fett fights with Luke Skywalker and Han Solo a little and (almost) gets eaten by Sarlacc the pitmonster. However, he did survive that and returns to hunt our heroes a few years later in comic release "Dark Empire I & II".

Boba Fett's ship seen in movies is called Slave 1. It is Firespray-class ship by Kuat System's engineering. In "Dark Empire I" is also seen ship known as Slave 2, but it is destroyed and in DE II we see again the old ship.

See also Boba Fett: Enemy of the Empire, Shadows of the Empire, Boba Fett: Death, Lies and Treachery.

Bossk

In Episode V played by ?

A bounty hunter. Seen in Episode V in the scene where Vader talks to group of bounty hunters. Bossk is the reptile-looking creature. Later he tried steal carbonitefrozen Han Solo from Boba Fett with 4-Lom and Zuckuss, but Fett got away and possibly killed 4-Lom.

Boushh

In Episode VI played by Carrie Fisher

Boushh is the name for the bounty hunter in Episode VI until we find out it's actually Leia. The language of Boushh is called Ubese.

Actual Boushh was a bounty hunter who died about 3. "Shadows of the Empire" tells how Leia got his outfit.

B-wing

Second data disk of X-wing.
Also: a rebel fighter.

Byss

A planet in the center of galaxy. Maybe the most important of imperial bases. Emperors clonelaboratories were there. Also the Galaxy Gun was there.

C-3PO aka (See-)Threepio

In Episodes I to VI played by Anthony Daniels

The protocol droid well-known. Originally build by Anakin Skywalker, finished by Shmi Skywalker.
Is fluent in over six million forms of communication. Also been programmed for over thirty secondary functions. His first job was programming binary load lifter.
It's against his programming to impersonate a deity.

As his counterpart we often see R2-D2.

(Mon) Calamari

One of the biggest nations of Alliance. Calamari have been called "the soul of alliance". Most well-known of their leaders is admiral Ackbar.

Female calamaris are smaller and more delicate then the male ones seen in movies.

Between Episodes II and III the Calamari join the separatists.

At year 10 Calamari homeworld is attacked with the World Devastators and a year later by admiral Daala.

You might remember the Mon Calamari Cruisers.

See also Cilghal.

Joruus C'baoth

Joruus C'baoth was an evil, crazy clone of jedi master Jorus C'baoth. He was (sort of) emperor about the same time as grand admiral Thrawn was in power.

C'baoth created a clone called Luuke (Skywalker), which was made using the hand of Luke, that was cut of by Vader in Cloud City. This clone, as well as C'baoth himself, was slain by Mara Jade in Wayland (see Emperor) with some help of Luke, Leia, Han and Talon Karrde. All this happened year 9.

For more info read novels by Timothy Zahn.

Chewbacca

In Episodes III to VI played by Peter Mayhew

Han Solo's loyal companion wookiee was born about -200 at Kashyyyk. The rest about the first mate of Millennium Falcon is history well-known to us all (I assume).

A story goes that Han long ago saved Chewies life. Since this is greatly a debt of honor to wookiee, he's stayed with Solo since.

Chief Chirpa

In Episode VI played by Jane Busby

Chief of ewoks. Seen for example in scene where C-3PO tells stories to ewoks. Interesting detail is that this character was cut down a bit in the movie and some of his lines on script were turned over to Logray.

Cilghal

A calamari ambassador. Leia noticed Cilghal has jedi potential and send her to study in Luke's academy. Cilghal's jedi powers are strong in healing.

Clone Wars

Series of wars happening during fall of the Old Republic named after clone army created by Palpatine.

Cloud City

Corellia

Home system of Han Solo, general Madine and Shug Ninx.

Corellian corvette, also known as Rebel Blockade Runner

At 18 the government of Corellian system is overturned, and a war within the system breaks out. For details about this see novels "Ambush at Corellia", "Assault at Selonia" and "Showdown at Center Point".

Coruscant

Coruscant was/is the capital planet of the Old Republic, the Empire and the New Republic.

Seen in episodes I, II and III (and, I assume, end of episode IV special edition).

Admiral Daala

Possibly the only female admiral the Empire ever had.
Althougt imperial army didn't have actual rules not to allow women in high positions, the general policy was to avoid that. This opinion would seem to origin to emperor Palpatine.

Before SW4:ANH Grand Moff Tarkin promoted Daala to admiral and gave her a mission to command the Maw Installation research center near Kessel, where she was hiding with a small army for more then ten years. They were working on a project to create a weapon more powerful then the Death Star, which they in the end did.
The Sun Crusher.

Daala had in her use four Star Destroyers; Hydra was destroyed by Han Solo and Kyp durron, Manticore by admiral Ackbar and Basilisk by Kyp Durron. Don't know what happened to the fourth ship, Gorgon.

For more info see Dantooine and read the Jedi Academy -trilogy (see Kevin J. Anderson).

Dagobah

The system where Yoda lived. Has lots of life, but no cities or technology.

Dak

In Episode V played by John Morton

Luke's gunner in battle of Hoth. Gets killed.

Dantooine

A planet which once had a rebel base. Plenty of wild life, beautiful nature, few native(?) tribes.

In Episode IV princess Leia tries to buy time and save her home planet by naming this deserted base to Tarkin.

About year 11 the New Republic evacuates the small population of Eol Sha (led by Gantoris), a doomed planet, to Dantooine.
They are soon after that slaughtered by admiral Daala's imperial forces.

Darklighter, Biggs

Darksaber

A modified version of the Death Star build by hutts about 13.

For details see novel "Darksaber".

Darth Maul

Darth Sidious

Darth Tyrannous

Darth Vader

Dash Rendar

A smuggler/bounty hunter. Is seen in "Shadows of the Empire" (comics and the computergame) helping rebels when they try to catch Boba Fett and his carbonitefrozen cargo also known as Han Solo.

Death Star

Two of the most powerful weapons ever build by the Empire. As well known, the first Death Star was destroyed by Luke Skywalker in battle of Yavin just before it destroyed Yavin like it had done to Alderaan. This battle station was commanded by grand moff Tarkin. On it were working also officers Motti and Tagge during its destruction. Death Star was won because its weakness: a small thermal exhaust port, right below the main port. The shaft led directly to the reactor system. A precise hit started a chain reaction which destroyed the station.

Some of the maindesigners of Death Star were Bevel Lemelisk (or Lemelski, other is a typo, don't know which), Ohran Keldor (died about 12), Nasdra Magrody and Qwi Xux.

The classic blueprint of Death Star

As well known (again), the unfinished second Death Star was destroyed by Lando Calrissian and Wedge Antilles in battle of Endor.

There was also a third Death Star, an unfinished prototype that remained unused in Maw installation until year 11 conflict. Kyp Durron caused it's destruction.

Check Tarkin for more info.

Major Bren Derlin

In Episode V played by John Ratzenberger

The rebel officer who in begin of Episode V makes the decision about closing doors while commanders Solo and Skywalker are still out there. Derlin also has later the line: "Okay. Everyone to your stations. Let's go!"

Derlin is later promoted to colonel. At year 9 he still works for the New Republic.

Dia Nogu

The Dia Nogu is that slimy thing with tentacles in Death Stars garbage room. If you've seen the Episode IV, you should remember how it grabs Luke a couple times.

General Jan Dodonna

In Episode IV played by Alex McCrindle

Rebel general Dodonna is that guy in the end of Episode IV who gives the briefing to pilots, leader of rebel forces in battle of Yavin.
Dodonna still has a high position in the New Republic at year 11.

(Count) Dooku
aka
Lord Darth Tyrannous

In Episodes II & III played by Christopher Lee

A jedi master turned to the dark side; a dark lord of Sith.

It was Dooku, who cut off Anakin's hand.
Killed by Anakin in Episode III.

Dorsk 81

81th clone of Dorsk. One of Luke's first pupils.

Dorsk 81 is from planet Khomm. About thousand years ago people of Khomm desited they had reached a social and/or genetic perfectness. So, to stop unvanted changes (thus any changes, since perfect can't get better), they quit their evolution by leaving the traditional breeding and starting to clone themselves.
I don't know if their cloning technology has any part in clone wars or Palpatine's return from death.
As a clone Dorsk 81 is actually a failiar. He isn't exactly like the 80 Dorsks before him. The main difference is that he is a jedi.

A personal note of mine: Perhaps Dorsk 81 is a perfect clone. Perhaps the original Dorsk had jedi potential, but it was never noted. Who knows.

Kyp Durron

Born about -10.

Kyp is a bitter young man with Force too strong with him. He spend most of his life in Kessel in slavery. After he got free, Kyp went to study with Luke, but his hatred on empire and Exar Kun's persuations seduced his to the dark side.

For more info see Daala, Sun Crusher.

Emperor

Empire

The evil Galactic Empire. You know, the bad guys. Empire was created by senator Palpatine, the emperor, about -20, after the fall of the Old Republic.

Only threath to this system was the Rebel Alliance, that started a galactic Civil War against Empire. Year 4 in battle of Endor Empire lost its control on galaxy. Imperial troops however kept on fighting till year 10, when Empire was permanently(?) destroyed. Some things though did stay operational.

A few imperial officers (mostly) worth mentioning are moff Jerjerrod, general Motti, admiral Ozzel, admiral Piett, general Tagge, general Veers, admiral Daala, grand admiral Thrawn and grand moff Tarkin.

For more info see New Republic, Death Star, Star Destroyer, Ssi-ruuk, Vader and more of these pages then I bother to list here. More details (of course) in many Star Wars novels and comics.

Endor

The forestmoon where ewoks live in Episode IV. The sanctuary moon from which the shield of the second Death Star was generated. I don't actually know moon of what planet Endor is or in what system it is or much anything else about it. Anyway, the battle of Endor (about 4), where the Death Star was destroyed and Emperor and Vader died, was the turning point of whole galactic civil war. After that Rebel Alliance turned into New Republic.

A fact not seen in movie is that Emperor actually gave orders that Death Star should destroy Endor immediately if the shield would go inoperative. Seems to me he did this to irritate Luke. Moff Jerjerrod just didn't have the time to do this before Death Star was destroyed.

EV-9D9 aka (Eve-)Ninedenine

A robot working for Jabba the Hutt in Episode VI. EV-9D9 is the one who decides where to put R2-D2 and C-3PO to work.

E-wing

A next generation rebel fighter first taken in use about year 10. Created by an imperial army factory that joined the rebellion. Has greater firepower then older fighters, but has possibly some dangers of malfunctioning or overheating.

Ewoks

In Episode VI
Ewok Warrior played by MALCOM DIXON
Ewok Warrior played by MIKE COTTRELL
Nicki played by NICKI READE

Those cute furry things in Episode VI living on forest moon of Endor. For details see ewoks Wicket, Logray, Teebo, Paploo and Chief Chirpa.

Ewokese lyrics by Ben Burtt
The rest of ewoks played by
MARGO APOSTOCOS, LINDA BOWLEY, RAY ARMSTRONG, PETER BURROUGHS, EILEEN BAKER, DEBBIE CARRINGTON, MICHAEL H. BALHAM, MAUREEN CHARLTON, BOBBIE BELL, WILLIAM COPPEN, PATTY BELL, SADIE CORRIE, ALAN BENNETT, TONY COX, SARAH BENNETT, JOHN CUMMING, PAMELA BETTS, JEAN D'AGOSTINO, DAN BLACKNER, LUIS DE JESUS, DEBBIE DIXON, JOHN LUMMISS, MARGARITA FERNANDEZ, NANCY MACLEAN, PHIL FONDACARO, PETER MANDELL, SAL FONDACARO, CAROLE MORRIS, TONY FRIEL, STACY NICHOLS, DAN FRISHMAN, CHRIS NUNN, JOHN GAVAM, BARBARA O'LAUGHLIN, MICHAEL GILDEN, BRIAN ORENSTIEN, PAUL GRANT, HARRELL PARKER JR., LARS GREEN, JOHN PEDRICK, LYDIA GREEN, APRIL PERKINS, PAM GRIZZ, RONNIE PHILLIPS, ANDREW HERD, KATIE PERVIS, J. J. JACKSON, CAROL READ, GLYNN JONES, NICHOLAS READ, RICHARD JONES, DIANA REYNOLDS, TREVOR JONES, DANIEL RODGERS, KAREN LAY, CHRIS ROMANO, DEAN SHACKENFORD, JOSEPHINE STADDON, KIRAN SHAH, KEVIN THOMPSON, FELIX SILLA, KENDRA WALL, LINDA SPRIGGS, BRIAN WHEELER, GERARLD STADDON and BUTCH WILHELM.

(Lord) Exar Kun

A Dark Lord of Sith who lived about -4000. He found even older Sith knowledge on Yavin IV and used it to enslave the massassi and establish a base of Sith power.

Kun seems to have had something (propably a lot) to do with the Sith War.

When the Jedi defeated him, he was able to keep his conciousness (more or less) alive and stayed on Yavin, sleeping, waiting for a Jedi to find him, a Jedi whom he'd turn to the dark side...

This unfortunate person was Kyp Durron.

In the end Luke's apprentices defeat the spirit of Kun.

A comment: The place for Luke's Jedi Academy was just excelently chosen. I mean, there just isn't a better place to train young, inexperienced Jedi-pupils in their critical phase of learning the Force than the home of the Sith. Let's give a big hand to master Skywalker!

Vodo-Siosk Baas (see holokron) was Kun's teacher and one of the Jedi who defeated him (thought he himself was killed).

For more info read novels "Dark Apprentice" and "Champions of the Force" and the Sith War comics.

Falcon

Fett, Boba

Force

I considered quotes to be the best way to explain what the Force is. So,
here goes nothing (- Lando Calrissian).

The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.
(- Obi-Wan Kenobi)

The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.
(- Darth Vader)

But beware of the dark side. Anger... fear... aggression. The dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi-Wan's apprentice.
(- Yoda)

Life creates it, makes it grow. It's energy surrounds us and binds us.
(- Yoda)

Through the Force, things you will see. Other places. The future...the past. Old friends long gone.
(- Yoda)

So much for quotes. A couple curiosities:
On planet Myrkr lives a dog-like animal called vornskr. It is possibly only known not-intelligent species, that uses Force. They do it mainly to find food. Check Talon Karrde.
On same planet there's a lizard called ysalamir. It creates some kind of vacuum in Force, a small area where Force can not be used.

Galaxy Gun

The Galaxy Gun was a sort of a long range version of the Death Star. GG was seen in comic releases "Dark Empire II" and "Empire's End". It destroyed the 5th moon of Da Soocha, which was a major base of Alliance. This happened year 10.

Gantoris

Died about 11.

Gantoris was one of Luke's first pupils. Before that he was leader of Eol Sha colony (see Dantooine).

He was killed by spirit of Exar Kun.

Greedo

In Episode IV played by ?

Greedo is the bounty hunter who tries to catch Han Solo in Mos Eisley cantina but gets only himself killed ("Sorry about the mess", remember?). Greedo used to work mainly for Jabba, but as Special Edition of A New Hope shows, Jabba didn't tell him to kill Solo (at least, so Jabba says).

I'm not quite sure what language Greedo speaks, but it might be Ubese (see Boushh). Judge yourself, if you got Star Wars on video.

Gungans

Jar Jar, boss Nass and those people in Naboo.

Nute Gunray

In Episodes I to III played by Silas Carson

A Neimoidian trade viceroy. Killed by Anakin in Episode III.

Han Solo

In Episodes IV to VI played by Harrison Ford
(of course you knew this, just mentioned it for habbit)

Husband of Leia, father of Jacen, Jaina and Anakin. A rebel general, smugler, scoundrel, hero and lots of else. Owner of Millennium Falcon since he won it from Lando Calrissian in a game of sabacc. Born in Corellian star system about -29.

Han has had many employers, but I only know the most famous, the Rebel Alliance and Jabba. We all know (I hope) how Solo got himself carbonitefrozen in Cloud City in Episode V. Boba Fett had some problems in delivering Han "Iceblock" Solo to Jabba the Hutt because of a few bounty hunters.

Althought Solo shoots people all the time, he doesn't personally kill anyone important. We (hopefully) remember how he shoots Greedo and (almost) kills Fett in Episode VI, but that's about it.

For more info about Han Solo see Solo, Chewbacca, Nal Hutta, Star's End, Shug Ninx, Salla Zend and most of any Star Wars material, especially novels "Han Solo at Stars' End", "Han Solo's Revenge" and "Han Solo and the Lost Legacy".

Hobbie (Klivan?)

In Episode V played by Richard Oldfield

A rebel pilot. Rogue 4 in battle of Hoth.

In book version of Episode V Hobbie dies by crashing on the AT-AT -walker that in movie destroyed the generators. The walker also explodes killing crew including general Veers.

According Rogue Squadron -comics Hobbie is still live and active after Endor.

Holokron

May be either Holokron or Holocron. I don't know the correct spelling in English.
Holokron is a jedi training device. It uses ancient hologram technology. Holokron is (among other things) a library of teachings of ancient jedis. It is at least 1000 years old. In appearance it is small glowing cube. In holograms appear ancient jedi masters who are simulated to interact as real persons. Holokron has among others recordings made by master(s) Baas.
(This is a thing unclear to me. One source mentions Bodo Baas [as well as Boda Baas, but that seems like typo], on other case there's Vodo-Siosk Baas. I'm not sure if these are the same person or perhaps relared. both are similar aliens.)

Emperor Palpatine had it until Leia stole it from him. Holokron showed Luke the way to planet Ossus.

Events described above were in comic release "Dark Empire I & II".

Holokron is destroyed by the spririt of Exar Kun. I'm not sure if Luke is able later to fix it.

Hoth

A starsystem in which is fought the battle in the beginning of Episode V. The iceplanet with the rebel base is 6th of the system. The scenes of this planets surface were filmed in Norway.

Hutt

Hutts are this race of creatures that must have been bossing other races for a long, long time, because that's the only way I can imagine this kind of species to evolve. Hutts are indeed politically and economicly wery powerful and often the best customers a good bounty hunter can find.

For more info about hutts see Jabba the hutt, Zorba the hutt, Nal Hutta and Darksaber.

IG-88

In Episode V played by ?

A droid bounty hunter. Seen in Episode V in scene where Vader talks to group of bounty hunters. The one left from Boba Fett (very hard to spot in movie). Later tried to steal carbonitefrozen Han Solo from Boba Fett, but Fett destroyed his ship IG-2000. I'm not sure if he survived.

Imperial Pursuit

The first data disk of X-wing.

Ishi Tib

A guard in Jabba's palace. Some sort of lizardbird creature. Ishi Tib is mentioned in book version of Episode VI, but doesn't seem to be in movie. I'm not sure of the Special Edition.

Jabba the hutt

In Episode VI performed by Toby Philpott, Mike Edmonds and David Barclay

In Episode I and IV Special Edition performed by ?
(a digital character, see picture)

The vile gangster Jabba the hutt. Born in Nal Hutta Force knows when. Killed by Leia in Episode VI. Lived his last years in Tatooine.

Jabba was an employer of Han Solo, Bib Fortuna, Greedo, Boba Fett and numerous other bounty hunters.

I personally highly recommend comic "Jabba the hutt - The Dynasty Trap". It's a very entertaining little story.

Jacen Solo

Mara Jade

Jaina Solo

Jar Jar Binks

In Episodes I to III performed by Ahmed Best

The goofy gungan. You know him, the orange weirdo. If you don't, go see the damn movies.

Jaster Mereel

Jawa

In Episode IV the chief jawa played by Jack Purvis

Jawas are those short hooded creatures with luminous eyes seen primarily in the begin of Episode IV (there are some in Jabba's palace in Episode VI). Jawas found C-3PO and R2-D2 in desert and sold them to Owen and Luke (but this you of course knew allready). The group of jawas seen in SW4 uses a sandcrawler, which is a huge tank-like vehicle the size of a four-story house (direct quote from the script). I don't know whether there are many jawas living outside Tatooine.

For curiosity check Teebo.

Jedi Knight

For over a thousand generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times, before the Empire.
-Obi-Wan Kenobi<

It appears to me that jedi knights were first seen about -25000 when hyperdrive was invented and Old Republic was founded. My data about this is quite inaccurate.

Earliest detailed info I have about jedis are things happening about 4000 years before movies. One of the jedis who lived those days was called Ulic Qel-Droma. A happening of that period is an assembly of 10,000 Jedi Knights accured at Mount Meru on Deneba. Much more about ancient jedis I don't know. Check Holokron, Ossus and ysanna.

The present problems of jedis started during the fall of the Old Republic. Since -20 jedi knights were hunted and killed. Only a few survived: some jedi masters like Yoda, our well-known Obi-Wan Kenobi and a woman called Vima-Da-Boda. There was also a man who disappeared into a gascloud and ended up to Ganath system, an isolated place where techology is a bit behind from most of galaxy. In there he became leader (he describes it: "It is said that a powerful jedi can control weaker people. I have done so... justly, I hope.").
His name is Brand Empatojaoys (yes, I did spell it correct). He and Vima help Luke and others to take down Palpatine for good.

The new golden age of jedis was started by Luke Skywalker. Altought Luke wasn't the last jedi as Yoda says, he was the only one powerful enough to fight the empire and Emperor (after Obi-Wan was killed). After taking down Palpatine (which is actually much longer story then seen in movies) Luke establishes the Jedi Academy on Yavin IV.

We all know something about jeditricks, mindcontrolling, lifting objects and so on. But there are some less-known jedisecret. One of them is so called jedi battlemeditation. I'm not quite sure how it works, but basic idea seems to be completely consentrating on using the Force without any other methods of fighting.

For more info see Force, Skywalkers, Solos, Ood Bnar, every link on this page and most of any Star Wars material not involving mainly ewoks or droids.

Moff Jerjerrod

In Episode VI played by Michael Pennington

Imperial officer who meets Vader in the very begining of Episode VI. Jerjerrod was in charge of building of the second Death Star.

For all I know, he died in destruction of Death Star.

See also Endor.

Jhoff

In Episode VI played by Adam Bareham
(I assume; might also be Jonathan Oliver)

In Episode VI the imperial flight controller who talks with shuttle Tydirium.

Qui-Gon Jinn

In Episode I played by Liam Neeson

A jedi knight, a teacher of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Killed by Darth Maul in Episode I (year -32).

Joruus C'baoth

Kamino

The planet where the clonelabs are. One of critical places in clonewars.

Kam Solusar

A jedi Luke saved from the dark side of the Force at Nespis VIII. Later Solusar kills a dark jedi called Vill Goir and helps Luke to take down emperor Palpatine (a few years after SW6:RotJ when emperor returns).

Talon Karrde

A smugler. His ship is called Wild Karrde. Karrde is friend of Mara Jade.

Story of Karrde is similar to Han Solo. Was a usual smugler, staying away from war, then gets too involved with a few friendly rebels and so on (except Karrde is seen about year 9, when Rebel Alliance has turned into New Republic).

Karrdes right hand man Aves becomes an acquaintace of Wedge Antilles.

Karrde has two pet vornksrs called Drang and Sturm (see Force).

For details read novels of Timothy Zahn.

Kashyyyk

The home planet of the wookiee. Seen in Episode III.

The end of "Return of the Jedi" was originally planned to happen on Kashyyyk, but cute ewoks got the role for Endor (for commercial reasons, I dare to claim).

Obi-Wan (Ben) Kenobi

In Episodes I to III played by Ewan McGregor

In Episodes IV to VI played by Sir Alec Guinness

A jedi knight. Was born about year -60(?). Killed by Darth Vader in Episode IV.

In Episode I kills Darth Maul. In episode III destroys Grievous.

Obi-Wan was a general in Clone Wars. Leia says he served her father. She means senator Bail Organa.

Kenobi's jedi master was Yoda (as we all well know). He was also trained by Qui-Gon Jinn.
Ben himself trained Anakin and Luke Skywalker (as we all extremely well know).

When Luke and Leia were born Obi-Wan helped to hide them from Anakin and emperor. Obi-Wan took Luke to live with Owen in Tatooine.

For more info see Force, most of the links on this page and (for Force's sake) Star Wars movies, especially episodes I to IV.

Kessel

Some place with spice mines. Quite small planet(?), not capable to hold a permanent atmosphere. Kessel mines are also used as prison during the Empire. After SW6:RotJ the prisoners rebelled and took over the place.
Near Kessel is the Maw, a unique group of black holes. In the middle of Maw is an Imperial research station created by grand moff Tarkin and commanded by admiral Daala.

Also: Kessel route: see Millennium Falcon.

Ki-Adi-Mundi

In episodes I to III played by ?

Jedi Master Ki-Adi-Mundi is from planet Cerea.

Dies in Episode III.

According comic "Prelude to Rebellion" his race has twenty times more women than men, so men including Ki have numerous wives. Ki is also told to have (at least) seven daughters. This of course conflicts with the movies.

Kirana Ti

One of Luke's first pupils in his Jedi Academy. Ti is interested in arts and culture. She has much studied history of the ancient jedi.

Exar Kun

Kyp Durron

(general) Lando Calrissian

In Episodes V and VI played by Billy Dee Williams

He's a card player, gambler, scoundrel. An old friend of Han Solo. Lando's also a rebel general and previous owner of Millennium Falcon and tibanna gas mine. He also later has a ship called Lady Luck.

Lando once helped the people of Taanab, a farming planet, against a band of raiders of Norulac. Lando refers to this as battle of Taanab in Episode VI.

Actually I know quite little about Lando. After battle of Endor he still works as rebel general, except Rebellion has turned into New Republic.

For more info see novels "Lando Calrissian and the Mindharp of Sharu", "Lando Calrissian and the Flamewind of Oseon" and "Lando Calrissian and the Starcave of Thonboka".

Princess Leia Organa/Skywalker/Solo

In Episodes III played by ?

In Episodes IV to VI played by Carrie Fisher

Daughter of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala, twinsister of Luke. Mother of Jacen, Jaina and Anakin Solo. Wife of Han Solo. Born in Episode III.

Leia was send to live as the daughter of Senator Bail Organa, on Alderaan.

All Leia remembers about her (foster) mother, who died when she was young, are images, feelings. Leia describes her very beautiful and kind...but sad.

A friend of hers was called Winter.

Leia, following in her foster father's path, became a senator as well. That's not all she became, of course... she became the leader of her cell in the Alliance against the corrupted Empire. And because she had diplomatic immunity, she was a vital link for getting information to the Rebel cause. That's what she was doing when her path crossed Luke's... for her foster parents had always told her to contact Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine, if her troubles became desperate.

Well, the movie stuff you ought to know, so I'll skip the stories about how she met Luke and Han and other well-known persons and things. For detail, check out Boushh and Wicket. After all, everything else she does is shooting, gibing with Han Solo and being either threatened or rescued.

Leia and Han get married about 8.

Later Luke trains her to become a jedi. She saves Luke from the dark side and helps him to win returned Emperor (see "Dark Empire" -comics).

For more info see Skywalker, Solo and Organa.

Lightsaber (aka Lasersword)

The weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or as random as a blaster. An elegant weapon for a more civilized time.

Logray

In Episode VI played by Mike Edmonds

The tribal medicine man of ewoks. He's the one with a skull of a...uh...bird, I think, in his head. Lograys opinion was that they should eat the stargers.

Luke Skywalker

In Episodes III played by ?

In Episodes IV to VI played by Mark Hamill

Son of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala, twinbrother of Leia. Born in Episode III.

Sort of the main character of Episodes IV to VI (and many stories after that). In older script he has even bigger role in episode IV, it's been clearly cut down, especially in beginning.

Obi-Wan took baby Luke to live with Owen, to hide him from Emperor and Vader. Luke lived his childhood in Owen's farm in Tatooine with such companions as Biggs Darklighter, Fixer and Camie. The rest you ought to know.

Luke is a jedi knight. In his time he was one of the last jedi. He later learns to use the Force very well and becomes a jedi master and establishes the Jedi Academy in Yavin IV about year 11.
There he teaches Gantoris, Streen, Kirana Ti, Dorsk 81. Kyp Durron, Cilghal and some others.

As we all well know (I hope) Luke was trained by Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda.

Things we well know about Luke, but which however are worth mentioning:
Luke destroyed the first Death Star on his X-wing. Vader cut his right hand off in Cloud City, but in the end Luke did same to him. Luke saved his father from the dark side.

Things less known about Luke:

Empire/Emperor found Luke's hand as well as his/his fathers old lightsaber. Of that hand is later created a clone (see Joruus C'baoth). Luke will get the lightsaber back and in the end gives it to Mara Jade.

When Palpatine returns about year 10, Luke almost turns to dark side. He is saved by his sister Leia, who Luke had taught as jedi. Little after this incident Luke does his trip to Ossus, where he finds the tribe of Ysannas and some ruins of ancient jedi settlements.

Other persons/things/places more or less related to Luke Skywalker:
Droids R2-D2 and C-3PO, Beru, Luke's brother-in-law Han Solo, Chewbacca, Wedge Antilles, Lando Calrissian, Wampa, Dak, AT-AT walkers (Luke did destroy one), Sarlacc (it was supposed to eat him), Rancor (it was also supposed to eat him) Jabba the Hutt, Sandpeople, Boba Fett (well, they did have a little encounter), Anchorhead, Mos Eisley, Alderaan, Hoth, Dagobah, Bespin, Sullust (?), Endor, ewoks, Byss, Holokron, Kam Solusar, Waru.

See also:
Solo, Skywalker, Rebellion, Empire.

Interesting Star Wars material with details about Luke:
Comics: Shadows of the Empire (also a computergame), Dark Empire I & II and Empire's End (they are great), possibly Heir to Empire.
Novels: (I don't personally know these, so I'm only assuming Luke appeares in these books) The Truce at Bakura, The Glove of Darth Vader, Lost City of the Jedi, Zorba the Hutt's Revenge, Mission from Mount Yoda, Queen of the Empire, Prophets of the Dark Side, Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command (I've read this one), Jedi Search (this too), Dark Apprentice (this too), Champions of the Force, Children of the Jedi (this I know to have Luke in it), Darksaber, The Crystal Star (has very propably Luke), Before the Storm, Shield of Lies (rumor says Luke does some investigation about his mother in this book).

Mace Windu

In Episodes I to III played by Samuel L. Jackson

A jedi master. Kills Jango Fett. Killed in Episode III by Palpatine and Anakin.

(...assumably; after all, we don't really see him die; wouldn't be unusual that a jedi master survives a fall...)

General Crix Madine

In Episode VI played by Dermot Crowley

Rebel general seen in Episode VI scene, where attack to second Death Star is planned.

Madine is corellian.

Madine dies about year 13. His dead would seem to be somehow connected to the Darksaber.

A story says that Madine would have originally been in Imperial troops and defected later.

Mara Jade

She was some sort of special agent (primarily assassin) of emperor Palpatine himself. She has a bit jedi training and was able to receive messages from Palpatine through the Force over very long distances, but she isn't totally jedi, perhaps about as powerful as Leia. Her combatskills make it up, thought.

Altought Mara was in very high position in Empire before the battle of Endor, she has later been quite neutral about the war and working only for herself and some smuglerfriends of hers including Talon Karrde. With Karrde she does get quite involved.

She did want to kill Luke Skywalker, because he had (with his father, as we know) killed emperor, but that was in the end only obsession created by Palpatine at his moment of death. That disappeared when she killed Luke's clone (see Joruus C'baoth).

Makes herself better known about year 9 in the novels of Timothy Zahn, so her adventures happen few years after SW6:RotJ.

Even later Mara goes to Yavin IV to study with Luke.

Mara Jade often flies a z-95 Headhunter.

I read somewhere Mara Jade would be seen in game "Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight", propably in data disk, whatever that was called.

Darth Maul

In Episode I played by Ray Park

Apprentice of Lord Sidious. The bad guy of Episode I. You know, the one with a sort of demonic red and black face. Killed Qui-Gon Jinn, killed by Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Maul is a zabrak.

Max Rebo

In Episode VI played by ?

Max Rebo is the blue musician in Jabba's palace. He plays jizz.

Millennium Falcon

The ship that made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs. Has outrun Imperial starships, not the local bulk-cruisers, mind you. I'm talking about the big Corellian ships now. She's the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.

I don't know much anything special about her. Falcon has been property of Han Solo or Lando Calrissian as far as I know. Chewbacca is often seen as first mate of Falcon. I have no knollege about who build it or when.

The biggest achievement of Millennium Falcon is destroying the second Death Star (seen in picture above) with some assistance from a X-wing flown by Wedge Antilles.

Momaw Nadon

In Episode IV played by ?

From planet Ithor. This creature (which we get better to know in Kevin J. Anderson's "Dark Apprentice") is seen in Mos Eisley Cantina just before the fight.

Ithorians are often called hammerheads (thought they themselves consider it offensive). So, Nadon is that lightbrown, flatheaded creature seen just momentarily.

Mon Calamari

Mon Mothma

(In Episode III played by Genevieve O'Reilly ?)

In Episode VI played by Caroline Blakiston

Mon Mothma was born at -48 on Chandrila and was a senator during the Old Republic before the Empire.

She was one of the leaders of whole wide Rebel Alliance and after battle of Yavin she became autocrat.

Mon Mothma continues to be leader of the New Republic at least to year 11.

Mos Eisley

Mos Eisley Spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
(-
Ben Kenobi)

The spaceport of Tatooine. Best known detail about it is (I'd say) the Cantina (see novel "Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina").

Well, you know the place from the movie. In this part, Special Edition is highly recommended.

See Momaw Nadon.

General Motti

In Episode IV played by Richard de Parmentier

The imperial officer who in Episode IV who argues with Vader about power of the Force and has great confidence to the Death Star. I assume he died in destruction of the battle station.

In older versions (including book and comic versions of Episode IV) it was not Motti but Tagge, whose lack of faith Vader found disturbing.

I have a problem about this character. In the credits he is called General Motti, but elsewere in script he's known as Admiral Motti. I'm not sure about his rank.

Mynock

Those flying things with suctioncupmouths seen in "cave" in Episode V. These pests chew powercables, so check allways there's none attached on your ship.

Mytus VII

planet Naboo

Home of the Gungans, realm of Queen Amidala.
One of Naboo's moons is called Ohma-D'un.

Nal Hutta

The name of this planet means "fabulous diamond" in Huttese. Many hutts have moved to Nal Hutta during centuries and himself Jabba was born on this planet. Nar Shaddaa, the spaceport moon of Nal Hutta, is one of the greatest smuglerbases of galaxy. Before hyperspacetravelling Nar Shaddaa was a great port, but now it has become an outcastworld. Han Solo has some friends in there because that's where he once lived before getting too involved with Rebellion. Nar Shaddaa is where Han and Leia meet Vima.

Captain Needa

In Episode V played by Michael Culver

An imperial officer. Captain of Star Destroyer "Avenger". Takes full responsibility for losing Millennium Falcon and apologises to Lord Vader. We all remember how that ends.

The New Order

A name for the government system Palpatine tried to set up.

New Republic

When empire was hit down (not killed thought) in the battle of Endor, Rebel Alliance needed to put up a new government system. This was called the New Republic. Three quarters of galaxy joined under this government. The rest of the area still was controlled by empire, which was finally beaten after a few more years of war.
Mon Mothma has been the highest leader of New Republic as long as I know. Many rebel officers have sustained their high military ranks and some members of imperial senate (dissolved in Episode IV) got important jobs in gowernment. Leia was one of them, thought I'm not quite sure what exactly was her position later.
See also Garm Bel Iblis.

Nien Nunb

In Episode VI played by ?

Nien Nunb is Landos co-pilot of Millennium Falcon in battle of Endor. I'm assuming him to be from Sullust. A story goes that he used to have some small private band of robbers, who were driven out from Sullust by the Empire. I don't really know much anything sure about this amusing little alien.

Shug Ninx

A friend of Han Solo. Corellian, who lives in Nar Shaddaa (see Nal Hutta). Also seen at Byss during the Galaxy Gun -episode. He had a ship called Starhook 10.

Some friends of Shug are Salla Zend, Lo Khan and Uz Bone Arm.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Old Republic

Before the rise of the empire there was the Old Republic. About year -20 came the fall of the Republic - a dark period of corruption and social injustice sweep through the Republic, paving the way for senator Palpatine's rise to power. Emperor dissolved the council (senate) permanently at year 0. In that moment the last remains of the Old Republic had been swept away.

The Republic was founded about 25000 years ago and it was the first galaxy-wide government. It was made possible by the invention of hyperdrive.

For more info see jedi.

Ood Bnar

A tree creature who Luke and Kam Solusar met on planet Ossus about year 10. Ood made some of the recordings of the Holokron. Ood Bnar was a jedi master. He was wery old, lived longer then Yoda. A dark jedi called Sedriss tried to kill him and they both were destroyed when Ood saved Jem Ysanna. Ood Bnar had some sort of offspring (what else can you call a child of an intelligent tree?) who still lives and possibly carries on some of the wisdom of the old jedi master.

Oola

In Episode VI played by Femi Taylor

The goodlooking alien dancer in begin of Episode VI. Makes the fatal mistake of not obeying Jabba the hutt and gets eaten by Rancor.

See also Bib Fortuna.

Organa

In Episodes II and III Bail Organa played by Jimmy Smits

The Organa household was high-born and politically quite powerful in that system. Leia became a princess by virtue of lineage... no one knew she'd been adopted, of course. But it was a title without real power, since Alderaan had long been a democracy. Even so, the family continued to be politically powerful.

Leia's fosterfather was senator Bail Organa, a major leader in Rebellion, who died in destruction of Alderaan.
His wife was the minister of education of Alderaan.

See Leia for more info.

Ossus

Holokron told Luke and Leia that planet Ossus in Adegan system was for thousands of years the center of jedis. At year 10 Luke and Kam Solusar went there to research the planet. They found ysannas, Ood Bnar and a gigantic library of ancient jedis.

Uncle Owen Lars

In Episodes II & III played by Joel Edgerton

In Episode IV played by Phil Brown

Fosterfather of Luke, husband of Beru. Was killed by imperial troopers in Episode IV.
Version 1
according some books and comics
Owen was brother of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Version 2
according episode II
Son of Shmi's husband Cliegg Lars.

Admiral Ozzel

In Episode V played by Michael Sheard

An imperial officer who commanded great imperial strikeforce to the attack to Hoth. Unfortunately to him, Vader considered his skills insufficient and killed Ozzel using the old strangle-a-person-with-dark-Force -trick of Sith, naaming captain Piett to his job.

Padme Amidala

(Senator/) Emperor Palpatine

In Episodes I to III and V & VI played by Ian McDiarmid

In Episode V voice performed by Clive Revill

The man who created the Galactic Empire. He was a senator during the Old Republic. I don't really know how he learned the ways of the dark side, but he has used Force to gain power. Fall of the old republic created situation that enabled Palpatine to become a supreme ruler of galaxy.

In Episodes I-III he also appeares as "mysterious" Lord Sidious.

Emperor knew jedi knights to be his worst enemy and had them hunted and killed. Only few survived, but as we well know, enough.

Wisely emperor never really trusted his right hand man Darth Vader.
(Actually, is right hand man at all suitable expression in this story?)
Yet, Palpatine did a fatal mistake about him, as we know.

But what many of you don't know is that Palpatine didn't die at Endor. Well, actually he did, but he was able to move his consciousness to a clone body. About year 10 he returned and united the scattered imperial forces again. Those days empire created the Wolrd Devastators, that were destroyed by R2-D2 and Luke, who almost ended to become like Vader doing this. Leia saved him and with her help Luke won Palpatine. He didn't die yet in this battle, but came back (at least) once more and organized building of the Galaxy Gun. I don't know the whole story, but we can say that Palpatine was won because his obsession to get Skywalkers turned to dark side.

One interesting detail about Palpatine is a planet called Wayland. It was his personal cache, where he had among other things some clonetechnology.

For more data see all links on this page (especially Endor), New Order, Mara Jade, New Republic, all the movies and "Dark Empire I & II" and "Empires End" by Dark Horse Comics.

captain Panaka

In Episode I played by Hugh Quarrie

Captain of queen Amidala's royal guard.

Paploo

In Episode VI played by Kenny Baker

One of the ewoks. The ewok scout who steals the speeder bike thus getting 3 of 4 guards to follow him leaving bunker backdoor almost unguarded.

Unless you knew, Kenny Baker perfoms also as R2-D2.

Admiral Piett

In Episodes V and VI played by Kenneth Colley

Captain Piett in begin of Episode V. Vader promotes him after Admiral Ozzel makes a couple too many mistakes. Admiral Piett is commander of Vaders Super Star Destroyer and dies (I assume) when his gigantic ship is detroyed in battle of Endor.

Yarael Poof

A querm jedi master. A tall, long-necked creature.

Tono "Piggy" Porkins

In Episode IV played by William Hootkins

Red-6 in battle of Yavin. Gets killed.
(Atleast) Biggs knew him earlier (they had been flying together).

Qui-Gon Jinn

R2 astromech droid

In old movies R2 bodies were fabricated by White Horse Toy Company

R2-units are used in some fighters including X-wing. They have also multiple other uses like storaging data or communicating with computers. They often have some extra "arms" for special purposes.

R2-D2 (Artoo-Detoo)

In Episodes I to VI performed by Kenny Baker

Picture says it all, huh? R2-D2 the brave little astromech droid met Luke Skywalker and Ben Kenobi in Episode IV on way well-known to us all (if not, go see the movie before comming to this page again). Along the story, this droid has carried the technical data of Death Star vital to Rebellion, been captured by jawas, taken Luke to Obi-Wan, saven Luke, Han and Leia from getting crushed, gotten shot by Darth Vader, fallen to swamp, argued with Yoda, been raised in air using the Force, had important role in rescuing Han Solo from Jabba, been captured by ewoks, gotten shot and done generally helluva lot beeping and talking to several computers. He's often been together with protocol droid C-3PO.

In comic release "Dark Empire I" C-3PO says once that Artoos main programming has been erased, but later it appears to be OK. On that story R2-D2 had in it the most important data ever since Episode IV.

In Episode VI Kenny Baker is also seen in role of Paploo.

Rancor

Rancor is the big ugly pet of Jabba the hutt. Seen in Episode VI, where he eats (I assume) Oola and later is killed by Luke Skywalker.

Rebellion/Rebel Alliance

Rebellion against the evil Galactic Empire. That's what this whole thing is about.

The first stirrings of rebellion begun about -20 when jedi knights were hunted. The rest is history.

Before Episode IV alliance was under command of three persons: Mon Mothma, senator Bail Organa and general Garm Bel Iblis.
After the battle of Endor rebel alliance turns into the New Republic with Mon Mothma as its highest leader.

Important rebel persons are admiral Ackbar, general Rieekan, general Madine and of course all well-known heroes:
Luke, Leia, Han, Lando, Chewie, Wedge Antilles, Ben Kenobi and of course the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO.
A few rebel heroes of later times (after Episode VI) are:
Kam Solusar, Jem and Rayf Ysanna, Salla Zend and Shug Ninx. Also Mara Jade is now and then quite helpful to New Republic.

Some rebel bases mentioned along the story are:
Dantooine, Alderaan(?), Yavin IV and Hoth.

Ships often used by rebels:
X-wing, Y-wing, A-wing, E-wing, Corellian corvette (aka rebel blockade runner), Nebulon B -frigatte (see below) and Calamari cruiser.

General Carlist Rieekan

In Episode V played by Bruce Boa

A rebel general seen in battle of Hoth. Only thing outside the movies I can tell is that Rieekan still works at year 11, about 7 years after Episode VI.

Salacious Crumb

That little, irritating creature seen in Jabba's palace. The one that almost picks out C-3PO's eyes.

Salla Zend

Han Solo's ex- girlfriend. She lives at Nar Shaddaa (see Nal Hutta). She build a great ship called Starlight Intruder.

R. A. Salvatore

Author of SW2:AotC novelization.
Better known for fantasy books including Dark Elf trilogy and other Drizzt Do'Urden books.

Sandpeople aka Tusken Raiders

Well, you must remembers them in beginning of Episode IV. Live on Tatooine, use banthas, bother innocent bypassers and so on. Are easily scared, but return soon in greater numbers.

The weapon of sandpeople is called gaderffii.

Sarlacc the Pit Monster

I don't know how common these are, or wether there are at all others then the one seen in Episode VI. It is clear that they can only live in desert. Also is known that Sarlacc(s) must live wery long. It is said they digest their catch over thousand years.

The one seen in movie nests in pit of Carkoon at Dune Sea (see Tatooine).

Interesting detail: Sarlacc did not get Boba Fett eaten or even killed.

See-Threepio

Shmi Skywalker

In Episodes I and II played by Pernilla August

Mother of Anakin Skywalker, wife of Cliegg Lars. A slave in Tatooine.

Dies in episode II in sandpeople's captivity.

Shug Ninx

Sidious

(Dark Lord of) Sith

If I've got this right, Sith is some sort of organisation of dark jedis. Dark Lord seems to be a leader or the most important member Sith.

Earliest signs about Sith are timed about -5000. At the time Naga Sadow ruled as dark lord. I'm assuming he was defeated and took Sith to hide in Yavin IV (propably not a coinsidence).

Another Sith leader was Freedon Nadd, who acted a millennium later in place called Onderon. He was fallowed by Exar Kun, who I assume to be somehow responsible of the Sith War and destruction of the Cron system.

Of course the best-known Dark Lord is no other then Darth Vader himself. I don't know if his mask is any traditional Sith mark or just a personal thing. Perhaps Episode III tells something.

Can't tell if Darth Maul or Palpatine could be considered a Dark Lord.

Planet Ossus was destroyed in Sith war. For more info compare also Jedi and find yourself comic releases "Sith War", "Dark Lords of Sith", "Freedon Nadd Uprising" and "Tales of the Jedi(: Golden Age of Sith)".

Skywalker family

Very little is known about Anakin Skywalkers parents. His mother was called Shmi. According to her, there was no father.

His wife Padme Amidala died as their children Luke and Leia were born in Episode III. For more info see individual characters.

Originally, in Lucas' earliest scripts, the name was Starkiller.

Solo family

Han Solo, whose parents I can't tell anything about, got married with princess Leia Organa/Skywalker at year 8 (seen in novel "Coutship oh Princess Leia"). First children Jacen and Jaina were born year 9 (seen in "The Last Command" by Zahn) and Anakin year 10 (seen in comic "Dark Empire II" part 6/6).
As far as I know, all children have fallowed their mother, uncle Luke and grandfather Anakin as jedis.

More about Solo kids is found out in "Young Jedi Knigths" -novels.

Ssi-Ruuk

An alien race that at year 5 tried to overthrow planet Bakura, but was won by joinet Imperial and New Republic forces.

For details see novel "Truce of Bakura".

Star Destroyer

Come on, you know them, the big ships of Empire. I really don't know anything special about them.

You can get some detail of Vader's Super Star Destroyer in A-wing and Endor. That ship has sometimes been called the "Executor".

Mytus VII aka Stars' End

The infamous Stars' End is the most dreaded prison planet in the galaxy. Han Solo was there at least once (don't know details).

Sullust

A people of Rebel Alliance. Planet of Sullust was also the place where rebels gathered for the battle of Endor.

Nien Nunb is (propably) sullustan.

In X-wing games Tour of Duty I the missions involving Sullustans are TOD I:s pain in the butt. Their plot however tells how Sullust joins Rebellion.

Sun Crusher

A weapon capable to destroy a starsystem on one strike. Designed by Qwi Xux.
Compared to gigantic Death Stars and the Galaxy Gun the Sun Crusher is a very small vessel. But, as Yoda says; "size matters not". The special device in bow sends a pulsetorpedo that starts a chainreaction in a star turning it into supernova.
The special hull of the ship also makes it practically indestructable.

The story of Sun Crusher:
Designed and build by empire, stolen by Han Solo and Kyp Durron, thrown into depths of planet Yavin, and finally retrieved from there by Kyp with help of Exar Kun. He uses it to destroy imperial military academy in Carida. In the end Sun Crusher falls to the black holes of Maw.

See also Daala or Tarkin.

Andur and Nomi Sunrider

They lived about -4000. After Andur is murdered his wife Nomi takes jedi training instead of him. I know nothing more about these legendary ancient jedi.

For more info see "Tales of the Jedi" -comics.

Sy Snootles

In Episode VI performed by Annie Arbogast

This character I'm quite unfamiliar with. I'm assuming she's (or is it he) some creature in Jabba's court. My guess is that singing and dancing female creature, because in credits Annie Arbogast is mentioned as maker of Huttese lyrics.

General Tagge

In Episode IV played by Don Henderson

The pessimistic (actually realistic if we think how things ended) imperial officer seen in the scene with Motti, Tarkin and Vader. Widely disliked among his colleagues.

In some comics I've seen a couple members of Tagge family. I'm not sure if general is related to these people.

Talon Karrde

Grand Moff Tarkin

In Episode III played by ?

In Episode IV played by Peter Cushing

The highest imperial officer. Movie makes me assume Tarkin is at least in some ranking more powerful then even Vader (thought Vader is closer to Emperor). He is the person responsible of destruction of Alderaan. Tarkin dies in the destruction of Death Star, because he makes the fatal error of underestimating rebels chances.

A little known fact is that Tarkin actually was the one who started the Death Star project. He introduced to Emperor the idea of a superior weapon, indestructable, powerful, invincible. That was also what he gained the "Grand" from. Another later product of the same project was the Sun Crusher.

Tarkin had an affair with admiral Daala.

In a Star Wars comic story timed between episodes V and VI there was also an ion cannon (I assume) almost as powerful as Death Star that was named Tarkin. It exploded after Leia had "engineered" its machinery a bit. So, this Tarkin wasn't either much of a friend of Leia's.

Tatooine

The miserable dustball where Luke used to live in. Known places on this planet are Anchorhead, Mos Eisley space port (and cantina), Owen's farm, the Dune Sea, Jabba's palace, Beggar's Canyon and the Jundland wastes (that's where Luke met Obi-Wan Kenobi).

Tauntaun

The tauntauns are those large grey snowlizards(?) seen in the beginning of Episode V at Hoth.

Teebo

In Episode VI played by Jack Purvis

Teebo is an ewok warrior. He is the one pointing Han Solo with his spear. We also see Teebo getting zapped by R2-D2. Teebo is grey with dark stripes and wears a skull of some mammal (I assume).

If I remember correctly, Teebo is also the main character of Ewoks TV animation series. Tought, the animated Teebo looks more like Wicket, so either makers of animation got names mixed up or ewoks get grey, when they grow up and Teebo looked like Wicket in his age. I mean, they are quite propably relatives, it's a small village.

Curious detail about Jack Purvis: In Episode IV he was in part of Chief Jawa. In Episode V he was in part of Chief Ugnaught. So, Jack Purvis is possibly the only person, or at least the most important, who was in all three movies everytime as different character.

Grand Admiral Thrawn

Leader of the Imperial navy for some time after battle of Endor and before the return of Emperor Palpatine (about year 10). Last of imperial grand admirals.

He is a character quite similar to Grand Moff Tarkin. A brilliant tactician, capable to outsmart even best rebel commanders like general Garm Bel Iblis and admiral Ackbar.
Thrawns way of estimating enemy movements was based on studying races arts. He tried (with good success) to understand the basic mentalities of his enemy. His only mistake, small but fatal, was that he never realized noghrs to be his enemies.

Is killed by his noghr-bodyguard Rukh at year 9.

(Noghrs are a people empire cheated to serve it. Their sudden rebelling was completely unexpected to Thrawn.)

Thrawn was seen as a vice admiral in TIE Fighter.

"Thrawn-trilogy" are books Heir to the Empire, Dark Fore Rising and The Last Command by Timothy Zahn.

Threepio

Tibanna gas mine

Also known as the Cloud City. Is located on planet Bespin (or was it Bespin system?). Once owned by Lando Calrissian. The place where Luke lost his hand and Han got carbonitefrozen.

Actually, "tibanna" isn't name of the place, it's the name of the gastype. I'm not quite sure what tibanna gas is used, but it would seem to have something to do with ships.

TIE (fighters)

Twin Ion Engine. Those standard imperial fighters seen all round the movies IV to VI. Also: best Star Wars game ever made (except for that really old SW shoot'em-up, perhaps.)

Too-Onebee

Tusken Raiders

Twi'lek

A widespread alien race. Oola and Bib Fortuna are twi'leks. Apparently twi'leks have great variety of skincolors.

Ugnaught

In Episode V the chief ugnaught played by Jack Purvis

Ugnaughts are those little creatures seen in Episode V Cloud City junk room about to melt C-3PO just when Chewbacca comes there.

For curiosity check Teebo.

Anakin Skywalker
aka
Lord Darth Vader

In Episode I played by Jake Lloyd

In Episodes II & III played by Hayden Christensen

In Episodes IV to VI played by David Prowse

In Episode VI Anakin Skywalker played by Sebastian Shaw

In Episodes III to VI Vader's voice performed by James Earl Jones

Husband of Padme Amidala, father of Luke and Leia. Was born about year -40 and died 4 in Episode VI. A dark lord of Sith.

Some of his childhood Anakin lived with his mother Shmi in Tatooine as slave.
Force was very strong with him. Obi-Wan Kenobi saw this and believed he could train Anakin to become a jedi knight. Unfortunately to whole galaxy, he failed and Anakin turned to dark side becoming finaly the dark lord.

In Episode II count Dooku cut Anakin's arm off.
In Episode III Obi-Wan cut Anakin's legs off.

As dark lord of Sith Anakin used the name of Darth Vader.

During the (old) movies Vader kills Obi-Wan and several rebel pilots including Biggs. He also kills imperial officers admiral Ozzel and captain Needa and cuts Luke's hand off and carbonitefreezes Han Solo (talking about problems with father-in-law).

As well-known, Anakin died in battle of Endor year 4 and as his last deed he abandoned the dark side and killed his master Palpatine saving Luke. He was possibly the first person ever to be saved from the dark side (as Yoda says: "If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny"). And so he joint the ancient jedi knights in the Force.

In comic release "Dark Empire" (part 6/6) resurrected Emperor says this about Anakin: "Great Darth Vader was a sick man in ironmask. That mask spread terror around the galaxy...but the weak heart behind it was controlled by the frail side of the Force." (This was my own translation, not the original text. Boldings are not my ideas, they are in comics text.)
This makes me wonder if Vader's little failiars during the story were accidents. Like, how come he trashes almost all other pilots he hunts in battle of Yavin (except Wedge) but in Luke's ship he only hits Artoo. I mean that altought he didn't know this was his son, he felt Force to be strong with him. Perhaps Vader saw that he was to become a jedi and deep in his darkness hoped someone to save him.
And what about Vader all the time killing imperial officers for every smallest mistake. That's no way to fight a war, if you want to win. And was it not Vader, who had the tought to try making Luke an ally of him and Emperor, instead of killing him? Besides, as Luke says, Vader couldn't kill him in Cloud City. Each of us can make our own conclutions of these facts.
I have one more thougth about this subject. Vader stopped Luke to kill Emperor. But maybe he didn't do it to save his master. Perhaps he did it to save Luke from his own anger and the dark side of the Force. After all, Palpatine couldn't been killed that easily.

Maybe Anakin Skywalker behind the mask was more of a hero then we ever noticed.

For more about Anakin/Vader see about half of all Star Wars material available. Curiour details are Vjun and Skywalker.

General Veers

In Episode V played by Julian Glover

The imperial officer leading the groundforces in battle of Hoth.

Vima-Da-Boda

A strange old woman who once was a jedi for 200 years according her own words. She clearly knows a jedi when she sees one. I can't tell much of her history, but she's talked something about betraying her friends and being sorry. Empire propably hunted down and killed all her jedi collegues. Leia once mentiones that Force can be seen on her, but it has a shadow on it. Vima met first Han and Leia at Nar Shaddaa, the moon of Nal Hutta.

Vima trained (for a little time) Kyp Durron.

(Planet) Vjun

On this dark planet stands the castle of Bast. Once it was the personal home of lord Darth Vader. After that it served as the headquarters of the dark jedis of Palpatine.

Wampa

In Episode V played by Des Webb

Wampa Ice Creature is the thing that attacks and captures Luke thus getting his hand cut off in the begin of Episode V. As far as I know, they live only at Hoth.

Waru

An alien Luke and Han meet on a trip to find a lost group of jedis about 14.

Watto

In Episodes I and II performed by ?

A Toydarian junk dealer in Tatooine. Owner of Shmi and Anakin Skywalker.

He's the ugly blue flying thing.

Wedge Antilles

Wicket

In Episode VI played by Warwick Davis

The ewok who first meets Leia in Episode VI. One might say it was Wickets passionate speech (Not in movie!) that made chief Chirpa and others to help the rebels.

General Willard

In Episode IV played by Eddie Byrne

The rebel officer who hugs Leia when our heroes first arrive to Yavin IV.

Mace Windu

Winter

Winter was a childhood companion of princess Leia. Has unbelievable memory, especially on faces. She later worked in many tasks in Alliance. Winter was also Jacen and Jaina Solos nanny for some time.

Wookiee

Well, you know, those eight-foot-high furry creatures like Chewbacca. Wookiees homeworld is Kashyyyk. All I can tell is that they live quite long, hundrets of years.

World Devastators

Mighty imperial warmachines bigger and tougher then the Star Destroyers. Actually one devastator is seen to "eat" and recycle a SD. They are first seen about year 10, when they attacked to Mon Calamari. R2-D2 got their controls jammed and the devastators destroyed each others (actually it wasn't all that simple, but you'll have to read "Dark Empire I" for details).

First a few words about the classic game. It may be old, but it's still as atractive as when I first saw it (which isn't awfully lot, actually). Besides, the tradition still lives in TIE-fighter and X-wing vs TIE-fighter. Tought, I personally prefer Wing Commanders (well you can't expect me to consider game the best there is just because the plot is about the fabulous Star Wars). Many of pictures seen on these pages are taken from the game.

I suppose you're quite familiar with this ship.

Yavin

Planet Yavin is an orange gasgiant. The important place here is the 4th moon of this planet. On Yavin IV is the rebel headquarters seen in the end of Episode IV (picture above).

At year 11 Luke Skywalker establishes Jedi Academy on Yavin IV.

Long ago a civilization called Massassi lived in Yavin IV. The buildings seen are theirs. What happened to this people remains unknown (to me alteast).

For more info see Sith and Exar Kun.

Yoda

In Episodes I to III and V & VI performed by Frank Oz

Jedi master who teached Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin and Luke Skywalker. Died about 4 in age of over 900 years. Lived at least the later years of his life on Dagobah.

So, Yoda is a little green man. I don't actually know what he exactly is. We can only assume he is not a human. I don't consider even this certain. After all, do we know what a human looks like in age of 900 years, if he's kept alive on power of Force?

Yoda may have been excellent teacher (after all, he did train jedi for eight hundred years) and strong with Force, but he wasn't so extremely smart after all. I mean, he told Luke to sacrifice Han and Leia, which in the end would have doomed the galaxy's future. Also, Yoda wasn't able to feel the little good still left inside Darth Vader. And he's mistaken in a couple other things too. Yoda said: "If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny." As Vader (and later also Luke) show this old jedi belief to be wrong. Another mistake by Yoda is comment "Only a fully trained Jedi Knight with the Force as his ally will conquer Vader and his Emperor". As said, Yoda was wrong about Vader and, well, Anakin didn't really use Force even to protect himself. All he needed was two hands. Well, actually it was more like one and a half.

There really isn't much more to tell about him (as far as I know). For more info you could try a novel called "Mission from Mount Yoda" (I'm not sure if it's got anything to do with Yoda himself actually) or computer game called "Yoda Stories" (featuring pumpkin-headed guy as Luke Skywalker).

Ysanna

The ysannas are a tribe living in Ossus. When Luke and Kam Solusar visited Ossus two of ysannas wanted to join them to become jedi knights. They were Rayf, aged 15, and his sister Jem, aged 23 (at year 10). Those days chief of ysannas was man called Okko.

The ysannas are shamans. They use the Force to guide their arrows (they have some sort of airpressurebows) and as a group or some best of them can also use Force a bit like Emperor does to Luke in the end of SW6:RotJ. Their ancestors were propably jedis, who came to Ossus after the Sith war about 4000 years ago.

Jem Ysanna and Luke were quite attached to each other. Tragidly, Jem dies in a fight against dark jedis of Palpatine about 10.

Y-wing

A rebel bomber. Heavier armor, shields and firepower then A-wing or X-wing. This ship is planned to fight with targets bigger the TIE-fighters. On battles seen in movies Y-wing is a quite unsuccessful vessel, but we must not judge it by just that because in many other stories great heroics are done on it.

Also, y-wing is on of the ships flown in classic game X-wing.

Timothy Zahn

Author of novels "Heir to the Empire", "Dark Force Rising" and "The Last Command" (I've read that one), the Thrawn trilogy.

See also Luke, theres a list of Star Wars -novels in the end.

Zam Wesell

In Episode II played by ?

The assassin hired by Jango Fett.
She's a Clawdite, a changeling.

Salla Zend

Zev

In movie played by Christopher Malcom

Zev is the rebel pilot who gets hit just before Luke's ship is shot down in battle of Hoth.
He's rogue 2.

Zorba the Hutt

A hutt named Zorba seen in novel "Zorba the Hutt's Revenge".

This is all true fact.

Zuckuss

In Episode V played by ?

A bounty hunter. Seen in SW5:ESB in the scene where Vader talks to a group of bounty hunters. Zuckuss is the one at extreme right, next to 4-Lom. He looks a little like an insect. For more info see Bossk.
