With the present educational system in Spain, many Spaniards do not know great many things about their history. With the American system of education in the Philippines, Filipinos were educated to hate Spain as a cover up for its own brutal occupation of the Philippines. The object of this web page is Filipino-Hispano relationship but, with the present situation in which the world's most powerful country threatens a small country like Iraq, Kaibigan Kastila can not remain silent. History repeats itself.

    Si, en 1898, España hubiese ganado la guerra a Estados Unidos. O si, desde 1899, Filipinas hubiese podido resistir la guerra contra los invasores norteamericanos, seguramente hoy no serían los Estados Unidos la potencia imperialista, amezanante de toda la humanidad, que son.

    If in 1898, Spain had won the war against the United States or, if in 1899, had the Philippines been able to resist the war against the North American invaders, surely today, they would not be the potential imperialists that they are, threatening all of humanity.

    Pero la historia corrió a favor de Estados Unidos. Su poderío industrial, respaldado por el poder de las armas, hizo de ellos una potencia casi imbatible. Conscientes de ello han ido imponiendo su pensamiento a todo el mundo. No admiten otras culturas, otras economías, otro pensamiento que no sea el de sumisión a su poderío. Se ven tan fuertes, tan imbatibles, que -en la actual situación respecto a Irak- ya dicen que "no necesitan autorización de la ONU para atacar". Como antes dijeron no al Tribunal Penal Internacional (para que sus crímenes contra la humanidad no puedan ser juzgados) y a tantas otras organizaciones internacionales de las que, formando parte, han rechazado cualquier medida que no fuese de su agrado.

    But history ran in favor of the United States. Its Imperial power, backed by its armaments, made them an almost unbeatable power. Conscious of it, they have been imposing their thoughts around the globe. They do not accept other cultures , economies and thoughts that do not submit under their power. They see themselves as very strong, unbeatable that, with respect to Iraq, they have already said "they do not need the U.N.'s authorization to attack Iraq". As before. They said no to the international penal court, so that their crimes against humanity cannot be judged. In addition, they have rejected compromises provided by many other international organizations, which do not measure to its affability.

    El mundo (lo que quede de él tras las guerras con que nos amenazan) acabará devorado por estas bestias del petróleo (Bush, Powell, Rice,... Blair y Aznar como cabezas visibles, pero la Exxon Mobil Corp. (ExxonMobil, Mobil y Esso) y similares como cerebro real de la situación) que -en nombre de la libertad- van a bombardear a civiles iraquíes. ¡En nombre de la libertad y dignidad de los pueblos van a destruir las escuelas, los hospitales, las viviendas,..., que quedaron en pie tras su intervención de 1991 (además de los bombardeos diarios, desde entonces, en las "zonas de exclusión")!.

    The world (of what remains of it after the war has threatened us) will just be devoured by these petroleum beasts (Bush, Powel, Rice ... Blair and Aznar as visible leaders, but Exxon Mobil Corp.(ExxonMobil, Mobil & Esso), and their likes as the real brains of the situation) that -in the name of Freedom- are going to bomb Iraqi civilians. In the name of freedom and dignity of the people, they will destroy schools, hospitals, and homes... of what remain standing after the intervention of 1991 (besides the daily bombing since then in the "exclusion zones").
    What cynicism !

    Permitan, pues, que Kaibigan kastila, una página cultural, de acercamiento entre pueblos, alce su voz contra la barbarie y tienda su mano a aquella parte de la humanidad horrorizada por la falta de escrúpulos de dirigentes políticos que, defendiendo los intereses económicos de sus amos (las grandes empresas), no dudan en permitir que bombas norteamericanas y británicas acaben con la vida de niños que aún no han tenido tiempo de conocer el falso mundo en el que viven, de madres que han parido para ver a sus hijos destrozados bajo los escombros de sus viviendas, de padres cuyos intereses dicen defender quienes los matan.

    Esta voz que se alza, se une a la de tantos millones de ciudadanos de todo el mundo que se enfrentan, no sólo a los dirigentes de los Estados Unidos, sino a los de sus propios países (en España, según encuestas del pasado febrero, el 91% de la población está en contra de la guerra. Es decir, hasta los propios votantes del partido del Gobierno lo están).

    This voice that is raised, is united to the one of so many million citizens worldwide that they face, not only to the leaders of the United States, but to those of their own countries (in Spain, according to the last February surveys, 91% of the population is against the war. That is to say, until the own voters of the Government team are).

   
    Entre estas voces no podemos olvidar las que proceden de los propios Estados Unidos: Martin Sheen, Susan Sarandon, Sean Peen o Angelica Huston (por citar algunos nombres conocidos) han puesto en peligro sus carreras profesionales por denunciar la inhumana política de su Gobierno. Como ellos, premios Nóbel , antiguos combatientes de Vietnam, autoridades religiosas y miles de civiles anónimos que han salido a las calles norteamericanas para decir no a la guerra.

    Between these voices we cannot forget those who come from the United States: Martin Sheen, Susan Sarandon, Sean Penn, and Angelica Huston (to mention some famous names) who risk their professional career in denouncing the cruel policies of their own government. Like them, the Nobel Prize, Vietnam Veterans, religious leaders, and thousands of anonymous civilians came out to the streets to say "No to war".

    Ellos son verdaderos patriotas norteamericanos. Lo son porque quieren ser ciudadanos de una gran potencia, no de un gran Imperio que arrase al resto del mundo. Quieren del suyo un país solidario, generoso, que contribuya a crear una humanidad más feliz... Saben que eso no lo logran las bombas.

    They are true patriotic North Americans. They are it because they want to be citizens of a great powerful nation, not of a great Empire that devastates the rest of the world. They want theirs to be a country of solidarity, generosity, and contributor to the creation of better humanity. These are not obtained with bombs.
