Pal
Name of one of Quarrel's boats, registration PR23. (DN)

Palazzi, Angelo
(Paul Stassino)
Angelo was an important part of SPECTRE's NATO Project. He was surgically altered over a period of two years to resemble Major Derval, then kills him and takes his place aboard a Vulcan bomber carrying live nuclear warheads. After killing the crew with poison gas in their oxygen supply, Angelo ditches the bomber in the sea for SPECTRE to recover. His reward, however, turns out to be death - after demanding more money for his services, Largo cuts his air hose before Angelo can escape from the downed plane. (TB)

The name of Largo's house on Nassau. As well as all the usual refinements of a luxury residence, it also houses a shark pool and an interrogation chamber. Bond attempts to infiltrate the house under cover of a power cut to locate Paula Caplan, but unfortunately the building turns out to have emergency generators. (TB)

A resident of Sheriff Pepper's beat. Her dog is "foamin' all at the mouth", but Pepper has other things on his mind by this time. (LALD)

Pegasus
One of Zorin's racehorses, which wins a race at Ascot to Moneypenny's dismay (though not Bond's). Because the horse is from an inferior bloodline, Sir Godfrey Tibbett is suspicious of chicanery - correctly so, as it turns out. The horse has been implanted with a small syringe of natural horse steroids, which is activated by microchip on a command from Zorin to give the horse an extra burst of energy for the final straight. (AVTAK)

Pelange
A French specialist in antimatter who defected to Russia, assassinated on the orders of SPECTRE Number 10 after the hit was commissioned (for three million francs) by the Special Department of the French Secret Service. (TB)

Pen, Explosive
An innocuous-looking ballpoint which contains a class four grenade with a four second fuse. Three clicks of the cap arms the grenade, and another disarms it. The pen ends up in the unwitting hands of nervous fidget Boris Grishenko at the second Goldeneye centre in Cuba, and is constantly armed and disarmed as he clicks the cap - Bond slaps it from his hand at the last moment before it detonates, the explosion setting off a chain reaction that demolishes half the base. (GE)

Penfold Hearts
Bond's preferred brand of golf ball. (GF)

When Pepper finally catches up with Bond, he is distressed to find that Felix Leiter is there to give the agent immunity.
His next encounter is on a holiday in Thailand. After being sprayed by Bond's speedboat and pushed into a river by an annoyed elephant, Pepper decides to take a break from the local culture by test-driving an American car. Things become more exciting than the usual trip around the block when Bond gets behind the wheel - after a daredevil chase and a spiralling leap over a broken bridge, Pepper is eventually arrested by local police, who are unimpressed by his Louisiana sheriff's badge. (LALD, TMWTGG)

Perez
(Alejandro Bracho)
One of Sanchez's henchmen. He tries to blow up Bond's tanker with a Stinger missile but fails, and soon after goes over a cliff when his Dodge pickup's tyres, already aflame from a close run-in with another burning tanker, ignites a stream of petrol that Bond has dumped on the road, sending the pickup out of control. One of Bond's MI6 contacts in Nassau. He relays information from London to Bond, as well as giving Q somewhere to demonstrate his gadgets to Bond. He drives a white Morris Minor convertible. (TB)

Polaris Missiles
The nuclear armament of HMS Ranger, of which it carries 16. Stromberg plans to use the distinctive black-and-white striped weapons to start World War III. Bond uses one of the Polaris detonators to blow a hole through the armour plating of the Liparus operations centre to bring about a slight change in this plan. (TSWLM)

Polaris Operating Authority
A machine protected by a very thick steel safe door at Faslaine naval base. It displays the navigational tracking data for Britain's fleet of Polaris submarines. (TSWLM)

Tiffany Case uses one of these to determine whether 'Peter Franks' is who he claims to be, by photographing his fingerprints on a whiskey glass. Q also brings one to Isthmus City in his holiday kit; unlike a normal camera, this one takes x-ray pictures of its subjects, and also has a powerful laser fired from the flash! (DAF, LTK)

Police Captain
(Joe Flood)
A tubby San Francisco policeman, who when Bond claims to be a member of the British Secret Service counters with "Yeah, well I'm Dick Tracey and you're still under arrest". After the murders of 004 and Saunders, Bond tracks Pushkin to Tangier to kill him - though the assassination is faked, in order to draw Koskov and his co-conspirators into the open.
