Just so you know, I've just started working on this recently. it'll look better by September 2003, I hope.

Shonen Knife

There I said it. Well, this is going to be my little site for anything I have to say about Shonen Knife. It just kept building up on the main page, but much too scattered. They deserve better than that.

What's good for starters? I brag, of course... I met the band

SHONEN KNIFE

in New York on May 3rd, 1997. I gave them choco bars, they *breathed* on me, and signed my fan. Naturally, my brother was outside with the camera. Sooo... I thought there would be no record of this event. How wrong I was.
No, I was right. No record of it, you'll have to take my word for it, unless you can get in touch with the opening band Pluto, who walked back there with me.

On the other hand, my brother did get some pictures during the show, so I'll add them here someday.

Also, here's a good trick to do. Buy the Explosion CD, which you probably did long ago, and put it on the 3rd song. Place the bass way down low, and the treble way up high. Sit 3 inches from your speakers. Listen carefully. Around the 20-40 second mark (most clearly at 30 seconds) you hear some fool shouting

`Sa-a-a-a-a-l-t'

over and over. I'm proud to say that I am that fool. Yeppers, I expect to be touring with the band any day now...
Yah yah yah yah!!!!
(I WAS yelling `Air Assault'. Guess the mikes weren't quite pointed at me.)

Shonen Knife, the ultra-eccentric punk-pop cult band, also gave a concert over the internet June 23rd, 1998!!!
(The same day that their new album was released in the US!)

I was able to get into the live broadcast of that one, somehow. There's a story to that. Maybe I'll even tell it sometime. But for now, I'd just like to say
`thank you, Saint Clyde!

I do have a picture or two of that too.
They're here someplace.

Hi Alan! Hi Andy!
They wanted me to say that.

Hey, take a look at the Blast Off video. You can see me there in the crowd. I'm the ugly guy next to my handsome brother. Note he also gets a close-up near the beginning. I'm not bringing him to any more concerts.

So what's new with me? Hmmm, I travelled 900 miles to see SK play in Chicago. (Yep, that was me, and another 900 to drive back home.) Wish I had more time to see `em, but the army called... Now they've put me in Korea, and I can't find any Shonen Knife anywhere. I'll have to make a quick trip over the sea to Tokyo (or OSAKA!!!). If anyone needs something picked up, better tell me now.

You know, I'm noticing that this is more and more turning into another one of my streams of consciousness. That's a BAD THING.

I'll tell you more when I start breathing regularly again.

Here's some good places to go for more about Shonen Knife.

NOTHING! Are you deranged! I'm keeping it all! Wah ha ha ha ha!!!

Sorry, okay, this is it...

`Nuff said on that at present. I'll try to keep it updated somewhat regularly.

Ah, Shonen Knife also caused a happy reunion for me. You see, about 12 or 13 years ago, I bought this great comic book called `The Mundane Adventures of Dishman', whose only ability seemed to be the ability to instantly wash, dry, and put away all dirty dishes around him with a wave of his hand. Now, I realize most people would like this ability to save themselves valuable time, but Dishman is a true hero, and decides he must use his ability to become a superhero. He procedes to have various difficulties (spandex costumes don't look that great on real people, don't have pockets for keys, and get lots of comments from prostitutes) but refuses to give up. It's been years, and I still talk about this comic. Anyway, I'll get to the point. The guy who wrote this comic, John MacLeod, has a Shonen Knife homepage. If it wasn't for Shonen Knife, I'd have probably never heard of this guy again, but there is a Shonen Knife, and he is a fan. Do you see how interconnected life is? That is the Great Circle of the Universe. Meditate upon this wisdom. Mooooooo....
