Richard (Ritchie to his mates... or at least to me) had a great season, and kept an awful lot of clean sheets, including a spell of 5 consecutive matches without conceding.
His first major problem occured when he was busy getting some suitcases down from his loft. He suffered a shoulder injury that put him out for most of pre-season, giving Simmo and Gez the chance to prove themselves. They duly proved to be utter shite, thankfully, prompting Moyes to bring in the legend that is Nigel Martyn.
"Lofty" played the first few games of the 2003/2004 season but a recurring knee injury put him out for the rest of the season, allowing Nigel to show why we were so disappointed to have missed out on signing him back in 1997.
Lofty was on stand-by for England for Euro 2004, down the pecking order, behind Calamity James, Paul Ronbinson and Ian Walker. (Nige refused to play.)
A fantastic shot stopper, and great competition for the big Cornishman, Lofty will certainly be working hard to win his shirt this next season. He impressed in Carling Cup games, but now that w're out of that, he'll have to wait for another chance to show Moyes why he signed him.
