Dougal
Dougal's breed, appearently, is a Maltese Terrier, this breed's name was changed to simply 'Maltese'. They are, indeed, hairy things that sort-of resemble a dog. For reasons I can't quite fathom, Dougal seems to be the most popular character in the Magic Roundabout. As you can guess, Dougal is my least favorite character, I don't know why, he just is.
Dougal is, in a word, greedy. Greedy for power, greedy for respect, greedy for sugar. He is very self-involved, and tends to not like doing things if he can't benifit from it himself. The new CGI movie toned down Dougal's selfishness alot, they softened him up. It made him greatly un-Dougal-like, but there you go.
Both Dougals do share a few things though. One being a love for his owner, Florence, and another being his love for sugar. He dotes on Florence, and is probably the only creature other than himself he loved dearly enough to risk his life for. As for sugar, well, Dougal loves it. It is his love for sugar which causes the disasterous collision with the Roundabout, which releases Zeebdad, thus starting the adventures of the second movie. As Brian says, Dougal always has to make a big entrance.
Dougal, it seems, only really sees Florence a a true friend out of the group, even if in the stock-motion version, Brian thought that Dougal was his best buddy. Dougal, however, couldn't stand the snail (or at least, that's what he said) and avoided him at all costs. Dougal's love interest in the stock-motion show was Ermintrude, though the dog didn't reciprocate the cow's feelings, poor Ermy.
Dougal is not the sharpest tool in the box, either, in fact, he's downright SLOW. He spends so much of his time thinking about either himself or sugar that sometimes things seem to just fly over his head. He's also an enormous coward. The movie tried to give him a heroes ending, but Dougal is STILL a coward.
According to the stock-motion show, Dougal has a Scottish heritage. His uncle, a Scottish Terrier, lives in the Highlands. Yeah...odd.
On Dylan, Dougal made himself an enemy. He disliked Dylan more than Brian, seeing the rabbit as nothing more than a lazy good-for-nothing lump. Zebedee did point out, however, that dogs and rabbits were simply not meant to get along....even if Dougal is not in the least bit interested in eating Dylan..maybe if Dylan were covered in chocolate and sprinkled with sugar, THEN he may reconsider.
