TENDER'S GARDEN

GARDEN OF MEMORIES

This room is dedicated to my father, David M. Shumaker, USAF...
And to Ethel Huskey, my beloved grandmother...
I love you both, terry lou...

Walking with thoughts passing through my mind
Like messages dancing in the wind
I hear things of long ago
Knowing how important they had been...

I feel my grandmother beside me
Holding me close to her breast
I feel the warmth of her love
Cause, I felt, she always loved me best...

I remember sitting on her counter
Singing the songs of yester-year
Smiling and laughing at our mistakes
The songs remaining in my mind
Will always be so clear...

"This Little Light Of Mine!"
Was a favorite we would sing
My grandmother will always be
In my heart and on my mind
Her memory will forever shine...

My father is my pillar
Of the foundation on which I stand
I can't hear his voice talk to me
For I never heard him as a man...

As I sit upon the grass
I tell him what's going on in my life
I wish I had the memories to hear
For to me they would have been so dear...

I have fussed and I have cursed
For him leaving me behind
I've felt I had to blame him for my mistakes
For the lack of his guidance I could never partake...

To lead me or to guide me
As I make my journey through life
I needed to have his memories
During my periods of needs and strife...

These are just two special people
In different places after being laid to rest
Of whom I go to see
I'll always consider them being in special gardens
For my family they will always be
And they will be in my gardens of memories...
