Vision Statement:
The Taranaki Multi-Ethnic Council, reaching all peoples of the World in our community and beyond.
The Aims of the TMEC:
To preserve and foster an understanding of the ethnic customs, languages, religions, sport and cultures of all individuals, so that they can be shared with the wider community of Taranaki, encouraging and fostering friendship.
To protect the rights of all individuals regardless of ethnic origin, so that they may enjoy equal opportunities and receive equal protection under the laws of New Zealand.
To respect the special status of the Maori people as Tangata Whenua under the Treaty of Waitangi.
The Achievements of the TMEC:
* Proving that over 42 different ethnic groups can work together; Creating the largest Multi-Ethnic Extravaganza in the country. The Extravaganza is held every year in March.
* The TMEC was officially welcomed onto the Mokau Marae by the local Iwi.
* Living in Harmony coffee mornings, every fourth Wednesday of the month, which are well attended.
* Monthly meetings every fourth Monday of the month which are well attended.
* The Spring Fiesta organised every year in September.
* The End of year function organised every year in November.
* The AGM held every year in May, which is followed by supper.
* Special events like picnics etc.
