I don't know what I'd do,
if you were to take ill.
It would leave a gap,
that would be impossible to fill.

I have grown into a woman,
don't you see.
Although I know,
you are still watching over me.

I have been fortunate to have parents,
that have shared so many happy years.
But there were times,
your life was interupted by tears.

You let me grow,
You let me roam,
But you always said,
I could come home.

When a boy broke my heart,
You would let me mend,
And you were always there
to be my friend.

Thank you Mom,
Thank you Dad,
For today, my life is anything,
but sad.
The Legend of the Black Belt

There were many lessons to be learned,
And Dad was always there to voice his concern.

The black belt,
was one my bottom usually felt.

Most of the time it was just a threat,
But all the while he sure made me sweat.

The black belt has many stories,
some of which are mostly boring.

One day Dad told me to get the black belt,
I told him if he wanted it to get it himself.

On that day I had to stop and pray,
because that was the last time,
I ever had my way.
You are visitor #
When you married,
you could'nt afford a fancy ball.
It was just you two and a preacher,
standing the hall.

Life in those early days,
was one long hard battle.
Daddy farmed with Grandpa,
and on other days he worked cattle.

But as time went on,
Life became busy,
For you had three beautiful children,
who kept you in a tizzy.

You taught us the difference
between right and wrong,
Yet you still waited up
for us all night long.

Finally, they all flew the coop,
and with the apron strings cut,
we still never let you get into a rut.

With forty nine years gone,
a tear comes to my eye,
I hope Don and I
will see that many years pass by.

I gave you life, but cannot live it for you.
I can teach you things, but I cannot make you learn.
I can give you directions, but I cannot be there to lead you.
I can allow you freedom, but I cannot account for it.
I can take you to church, but I cannot make you beleive.
I can teach you right from wrong, but I cannot always decide for you.
I can buy you beautiful clothes, but I cannot make you beautiful inside.
I can offer you advice, but I cannot accept it for you.
I can give you love, but I cannot force it upon you.
I can teach you to share, but I cannot make you unselfish.
I can teach you respect, but I cannot force you to show honor.
I can advise you about friends, but cannot chose them for you.
I can advise you about sex, but I cannot keep you pure.
I can tell you the facts of life, but I can't build your reputation.
I can tell you about drink, but I can't say "no" for you.
I can warn you about drugs, but I can't prevent you from using them.
I can tell you about lofty goals, but I can't acheive them for you.
I can teach you about kindness, but I can't force you to be gracious.
I can warn you about sins, but I cannot make you moral.
I can love you as a child, but I cannot place you in God's family.
I can teach you about Jesus, but I cannot make Jesus your Lord.
I can tell you how to live, but I cannot give you eternal life.
