To my fellow TIP Alumnus


Nothing in this world should take your WILL to meet your desired destiny. Do not resign to the fact that our academic standard is least compared to other institution, that is a lie. Rumor had it that our Institute has become a diploma mill, another misleading propaganda.

Coming from another institution, I was branded as a member of  Betta Getta HD. The fact  is,  I took Aeronautical Class and shifted course to Electrical Engineering.
Am no different from anyone, I am like you.

I  laugh each time I think of my days in college, why should I not ?    It took me three years to shore up from freshman course. My second year in freshman course was compliance for credit units to certain classes I had taken from previous institute . Then, new curriculum caught-up on me the third year .

So poor in name game , I remember their faces in one of my classes , I had to peek on ID’s to anyone I bumped into, lest I call them names. I was a pain in the rear to some instructors , especially when surely I can endure their class throughout the semester. I was once thought not serious in studies because I only had with me a book , a pen , and scratch papers for the class . I was not a spoon-fed kind of student , was always prepared for the test.

The only time I had a notebook with me and taking notes was for Spanish class. And it was in my senior year and my last Spanish class. Made some people laugh  that moment in time  when I did and guess the reason why? I lost my residence scholarship for failing to introduce myself as one so, my instructors shortchanged me on my final grade . I had a failing grade from a Charismatic group member instructor
( must be a wolf on sheep skin ? ) not for academic reason .I almost earned my death certificate before I earned my Bachelor Degree. A gang-behaving fraternity group mistook me as one of their rival group.
I  had isolated myself from the rest. I spent my energy more to my found faith. I had not shared support or rendered active participation  to other academic activities.

I earned my licence but there was no room to practice it  for . I had a job that was entirely foreign to the course I took .
Honed my skills best as I can and as flexible I can be.  I sacrificed time in exchange for free training . I sought resources where knowledge can be found.If it serves you for consolation, my story is not impressive as much as I wished and I hoped for.

Fight a good fight like rest of us do. Be not afraid , other aspirants have more to lose . I said it often times to my close friends ,” Am the underdog “. When I lose , it was expected ; but when I win , I have so much to gain. Fear God  but fear no man. Fear prohibits right judgement and causes irrational mind.When challenged , deliberately respond. Each of us are measured . Each of us should take a stand. Rebound when you go down, rebound that you must .Write it in the history book of your memories , lest you go down on the same routine.

I bade for a position in one of the Government Agencies . Taken the battery of tests and passed ,
only to find ( as I was asked ), I needed someone to back me up. So much with Aquino’s platform promises for Anti this and Anti that . I experimented work with future commodities and became a financial consultant but financial arsonist I thought more I was. I learned the marketing trade and dealt with water and wastewater products. It is more for a chemist and/or mechanical tasks. Years had passed me and had built network of contacts from inside the user’s companies to our competitor’s counterparts.

I have good knowledge in electronics and I know my electrical stuff . I can troubleshoot things and  can apply science in any given task. There were just not much of available employers around that time.
Had I not passed that first level of survival challenge , I would not think I can  the next level that awaits me . . America , the Land of Opportunity ( so they say). America , here am tried .

My formative years there were not wasted .I put it to the test. I worked with retailing store just for my diving board to my next employer. Besides , I came on the last quarter of the year and I have no local work reference yet. Two months later , I got employed by a German multinational electrical company. I worked in the assembly area doing motor control centers , motor starters, and other customized controllers.

It was no-brainer in nature but it was for a good start. I always thought , it will be easier for me to move around once am already inside the company structure. Four months later , the waited chance came, I was asked to work in the engineering department doing design and review design and its compliance to applicable state rules and regulations .

I soon realized I was shortchanged in my wages and in my time. I contested the abuse and misuse of the management. I took my stand to the end . I gave them my full service despite of their shortcomings. I won the claim but soon enough I lost my job. California finally submitted to slowing down economy .
My employer had to cut-down some employees and since I was the last to get in ,
I was the first to head out.

I probably could have retained my job but with the mark I made , they have their thumbs on me down. I was not sorry about it. I fought what I thought was right and still think is right . My peers at work (more senior in service ) benefitted the loots of my fight.
I earned respect from my fellow countryman and had proven to him our produce are competent just as well as with his well respected institution in Diliman he came from.

Learning from my previous employer , their line of business is a crowded-competition and one-shot small market base,, employment will not endure . Whereas manufacturing short-life product or high consumable production based, employment can be stable. Over qualifications can pose as a problem. But nothing happens to those who never take a step. Sacrifice has to be made and hoped  good things will come for those who work and patiently  wait. so, I took the chance.

ICN Pharmaceuticals is my current employer . I started with their Biomedical division as Laboratory Assistant II . It was for Chemist type of work and they make medical devices for in-vitro diagnostic use. I was not the first choice for the job. My supervisor then, considered that I was a job security threat. But my qualifications was enticing to match their current need. And the need was someone who understands and can fix their automated equipment.

I later became their In-house Technician to Department Supervisor in four month time. I did not play  politics when we moved to New York . And I was a threat to those in-charge of  Production Department and to Engineering when we merged with the bought out company . They sought for my employment end. But higher management felt my importance , had they not, my service to them had long time expired. You see,
knowledge is very important at work. So , from Supervisor title has to change to Process Engineer, as a compromise to evolving spirit at work.

Six years now in New York , our company bought a British laser company and a start-up new division emerged. I was requested to join them and found a new ball game. It was not difficult to learn. I was in the shadow at the start , then I slowly took control of where am good at.
I challenged the politics at work , this time in my terms . Right timing is always a concern. I have a high regard on Time . I currently hold Product Support Engineer position and acting Laser Safety Officer .Am in-charge of Manufacturing and Quality Control in U.S.A.. Who knows what is next ?

I made an appointment to meet my destiny, I kept my promise , I might have taken a longer route and took me  time . I can live with that and I can say to myself I mold my destiny.All those years at workplaces I worked with , I do find our graduates can compete with the graduates here in USA. On interviews or during interactions , sometimes one would  wonder how they were able to graduate the class.

I said am no different from you . If I can make it, so can you.

                                                              ANG SULAT NI ITAY

Mahal kong Anak,

       Medyo mabagal akong magsulat ngayon dahil  alam ko na mabagal kang magbasa. Nandito na kami sa probinsya para tirahan ang bagong bili na bahay  pero hindi ko maibibigay sa iyo ang address dahil dinala ng dating nakatira ang number para daw hindi na sila magpapalit ng  address.

       Maganda ang lugar na ito at malayo sa Manila. Dalawang beses  lang  umulan sa linggong ito, tatlong araw noong una at apat na araw naman nung pangalawa. Nakakainis lang ang mga paninda dito katulad na nabili kong  shampoo dahil ayaw bumula. Nakasulat kasi sa labas ay FOR DRY HAIR kaya hindi ko binabasa ang buhok ko pag ginagamit ko.  Mamaya ay ibabalik ko sa tindahan at magrereklamo ako.

      Noong isang araw naman ay hindi ako makapasok sa  bahay dahil ayaw bumukas ang padlock.  Nakasulat kasi ay YALE, aba eh namalat na ako sa kakasigaw  ay hindi pa din bumubukas. Magrereklamo din ako dun  sa
nagbenta ng bahay, akala nila ay hindi ko alam na SIGAW ang tagalog ng YALE,  wise yata ito!

      Mayroon nga pala akong nabili dito na magandang Jacket at tiyak na magugustuhan mo.  Ipinadala ko na sa iyo sa DHL, medyo mahal daw dahil mabigat ang mga butones kaya ang ginawa ko ay tinanggal ko na lang ang
mga butones at inilagay ko sa mga bulsa.  Ikabit mo na lang pagdating diyan. Nagpadala na din ako ng tseke para sa mga nasalanta ng bagyo,  hindi  ko na pinirmahan dahil gusto kong maging anonymous donor.

      Wala na akong masyadong balita.  Sumulat ka na lang ng  madalas.

FEW WRONG PEOPLE
 
MAYBE GOD WANTS US TO MEET A

THE RIGHT ONE SO THAT WHEN WE FINALLY
MEET THE RIGHT PERSON, WE WILL KNOW
HOW TO BE GRATEFUL FOR THAT GIFT.

WHEN THE DOOR OF HAPPINESS CLOSES,
ANOTHER OPENS, BUT OFTEN TIMES WE LOOK
SO LONG AT THE CLOSED DOOR THAT WE
DON'T SEE THE ONE WHICH HAS BEEN OPENED FOR US.

CAN SIT ON A PORCH AND SWING WITH,
NEVER SAY A WORD, AND THEN WALK AWAY

                LET THE POOR SAY I AM RICH

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to  the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people can be. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from the trip, the  father asked his son,
"How was the trip?" "It was great, Dad.""Did you see how poor people can be?" the father asked. "Oh yeah," said the son.  "So what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father. The son answered, "I saw that we have one dog and they have four.
We  have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek  that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the  stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
We have servants who serve us,  but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our  property to protect us and they have friends to protect them."
With this, the boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, "
Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are."
Too many times we forget what we have and concentrate on what we don't have. What is one person's worthless object is another's prize possession. It is all based on one's perspective. Makes you wonder what would  happen if we all gave thanks to God for the bounty we have been provided by Him instead of worrying about wanting more.

THE DOUBT BROUGHT THE END

    
There is a story of a Cliffhanger, determined to reach the summit of a high mountain. After years of preparation, he   began his adventure. Only he journeyed alone because he wanted all the glory.

        He began  his ascent, and as daylight faded he decided to continue climbing. Night fell. The night fell heavy as he was overcome by total darkness. The moonlight and starlight were hidden within the clouds. There was zero visibility. He was only  a  few meters away from the summit when he slipped climbing a ridge and fell off, falling at frightening speed. While falling he could only see shadow like figures in the darkness and felt the gravity sucking him down.
      
        In those anguishing moment, he saw his life pass before his eyes. He thought death was near when suddenly he felt the tighting of the rope around his waist that tied him to a nail embedded in the rock wall of the mountain.

        In desperation, suspended in mid-air he scream, --GOD help me!.. then unexpectedly a deep voice from heaven respond:  ---What would you have me do?.."Save me"..---Do you really think I can save you?..of course My LORD..
---Well then, Cut the  rope....There was a moment of silence, then the man tighten the rope and his waist.

        The mountain rescue team tells a story of a man they found frozen to death, his hand wrapped firmly around a rope tied his waist...Hanging Two Feet from the ground.

         So...how tight are your ropes?  Would you let go?

**  Among the students at a well-known college was a young man who used  crutches. A homely sort of fellow, he had a talent for friendliness and  optimism.  He won many scholastic honors and the respect of his classmates. One  day a classmate asked the cause of his deformity.  "Infantile paralysis," was the brief reply.  "But tell me,"  said the friend. "with a misfortune like that, how  can you face the world so confidently?'"
     "Oh," he replied, smiling, "the disease never touched my heart."
