To my fellow TIP Alumnus Nothing in this world should take your WILL to meet your desired destiny. Do not resign to the fact that our academic standard is least compared to other institution, that is a lie. Rumor had it that our Institute has become a diploma mill, another misleading propaganda. Coming from another institution, I was branded as a member of Betta Getta HD. The fact is, I took Aeronautical Class and shifted course to Electrical Engineering. Am no different from anyone, I am like you. I laugh each time I think of my days in college, why should I not ? It took me three years to shore up from freshman course. My second year in freshman course was compliance for credit units to certain classes I had taken from previous institute . Then, new curriculum caught-up on me the third year . So poor in name game , I remember their faces in one of my classes , I had to peek on ID’s to anyone I bumped into, lest I call them names. I was a pain in the rear to some instructors , especially when surely I can endure their class throughout the semester. I was once thought not serious in studies because I only had with me a book , a pen , and scratch papers for the class . I was not a spoon-fed kind of student , was always prepared for the test. The only time I had a notebook with me and taking notes was for Spanish class. And it was in my senior year and my last Spanish class. Made some people laugh that moment in time when I did and guess the reason why? I lost my residence scholarship for failing to introduce myself as one so, my instructors shortchanged me on my final grade . I had a failing grade from a Charismatic group member instructor ( must be a wolf on sheep skin ? ) not for academic reason .I almost earned my death certificate before I earned my Bachelor Degree. A gang-behaving fraternity group mistook me as one of their rival group. I had isolated myself from the rest. I spent my energy more to my found faith. I had not shared support or rendered active participation to other academic activities. I earned my licence but there was no room to practice it for . I had a job that was entirely foreign to the course I took . Honed my skills best as I can and as flexible I can be. I sacrificed time in exchange for free training . I sought resources where knowledge can be found. If it serves you for consolation, my story is not impressive as much as I wished and I hoped for. Fight a good fight like rest of us do. Be not afraid , other aspirants have more to lose . I said it often times to my close friends ,” Am the underdog “. When I lose , it was expected ; but when I win , I have so much to gain. Fear God but fear no man. Fear prohibits right judgement and causes irrational mind. When challenged , deliberately respond. Each of us are measured . Each of us should take a stand. Rebound when you go down, rebound that you must .Write it in the history book of your memories , lest you go down on the same routine. I bade for a position in one of the Government Agencies . Taken the battery of tests and passed , only to find ( as I was asked ), I needed someone to back me up. So much with Aquino’s platform promises for Anti this and Anti that . I experimented work with future commodities and became a financial consultant but financial arsonist I thought more I was. I learned the marketing trade and dealt with water and wastewater products. It is more for a chemist and/or mechanical tasks. Years had passed me and had built network of contacts from inside the user’s companies to our competitor’s counterparts. I have good knowledge in electronics and I know my electrical stuff . I can troubleshoot things and can apply science in any given task. There were just not much of available employers around that time. Had I not passed that first level of survival challenge , I would not think I can the next level that awaits me . . America , the Land of Opportunity ( so they say). America , here am tried . My formative years there were not wasted .I put it to the test. I worked with retailing store just for my diving board to my next employer. Besides , I came on the last quarter of the year and I have no local work reference yet. Two months later , I got employed by a German multinational electrical company. I worked in the assembly area doing motor control centers , motor starters, and other customized controllers. It was no-brainer in nature but it was for a good start. I always thought , it will be easier for me to move around once am already inside the company structure. Four months later , the waited chance came, I was asked to work in the engineering department doing design and review design and its compliance to applicable state rules and regulations . I soon realized I was shortchanged in my wages and in my time. I contested the abuse and misuse of the management. I took my stand to the end . I gave them my full service despite of their shortcomings. I won the claim but soon enough I lost my job. California finally submitted to slowing down economy . My employer had to cut-down some employees and since I was the last to get in , I was the first to head out. I probably could have retained my job but with the mark I made , they have their thumbs on me down. I was not sorry about it. I fought what I thought was right and still think is right . My peers at work (more senior in service ) benefitted the loots of my fight. I earned respect from my fellow countryman and had proven to him our produce are competent just as well as with his well respected institution in Diliman he came from. Learning from my previous employer , their line of business is a crowded-competition and one-shot small market base,, employment will not endure . Whereas manufacturing short-life product or high consumable production based, employment can be stable. Over qualifications can pose as a problem. But nothing happens to those who never take a step. Sacrifice has to be made and hoped good things will come for those who work and patiently wait. so, I took the chance. ICN Pharmaceuticals is my current employer . I started with their Biomedical division as Laboratory Assistant II . It was for Chemist type of work and they make medical devices for in-vitro diagnostic use. I was not the first choice for the job. My supervisor then, considered that I was a job security threat. But my qualifications was enticing to match their current need. And the need was someone who understands and can fix their automated equipment. I later became their In-house Technician to Department Supervisor in four month time. I did not play politics when we moved to New York . And I was a threat to those in-charge of Production Department and to Engineering when we merged with the bought out company . They sought for my employment end. But higher management felt my importance , had they not, my service to them had long time expired. You see, knowledge is very important at work. So , from Supervisor title has to change to Process Engineer, as a compromise to evolving spirit at work. Six years now in New York , our company bought a British laser company and a start-up new division emerged. I was requested to join them and found a new ball game. It was not difficult to learn. I was in the shadow at the start , then I slowly took control of where am good at. I challenged the politics at work , this time in my terms . Right timing is always a concern. I have a high regard on Time . I currently hold Product Support Engineer position and acting Laser Safety Officer .Am in-charge of Manufacturing and Quality Control in U.S.A.. Who knows what is next ? I made an appointment to meet my destiny, I kept my promise , I might have taken a longer route and took me time . I can live with that and I can say to myself I mold my destiny. All those years at workplaces I worked with , I do find our graduates can compete with the graduates here in USA. On interviews or during interactions , sometimes one would wonder how they were able to graduate the class. Again, I said am no different from you . If I can make it, so can you. |

Next time na lang ha? shared by mhel de leon 03.11.02 |

FEW WRONG PEOPLE MAYBE GOD WANTS US TO MEET A FEW WRONG PEOPLE BEFORE MEETING THE RIGHT ONE SO THAT WHEN WE FINALLY MEET THE RIGHT PERSON, WE WILL KNOW HOW TO BE GRATEFUL FOR THAT GIFT. WHEN THE DOOR OF HAPPINESS CLOSES, ANOTHER OPENS, BUT OFTEN TIMES WE LOOK SO LONG AT THE CLOSED DOOR THAT WE DON'T SEE THE ONE WHICH HAS BEEN OPENED FOR US. THE BEST KIND OF FRIEND IS THE KIND YOU CAN SIT ON A PORCH AND SWING WITH, NEVER SAY A WORD, AND THEN WALK AWAY FEELING LIKE IT WAS THE BEST CONVERSATION YOU'VE EVER HAD. IT'S TRUE THAT WE DON'T KNOW WHAT WE'VE GOT UNTIL WE LOSE IT, BUT IT'S ALSO TRUE THAT WE DON'T KNOW WHAT WE'VE BEEN MISSING UNTIL IT ARRIVES. GIVING SOMEONE ALL YOUR LOVE IS NEVER AN ASSURANCE THAT THEY'LL LOVE YOU BACK! DON'T EXPECT LOVE IN RETURN; JUST WAIT FOR IT TO GROW IN THEIR HEART BUT IF IT DOESN'T, BE CONTENT IT GREW IN YOURS. IT TAKES ONLY A MINUTE TO GET A CRUSH ON SOMEONE, AN HOUR TO LIKE SOMEONE, AND A DAY TO LOVE SOMEONE, BUT IT TAKES A LIFETIME TO FORGET SOMEONE. DON'T GO FOR LOOKS; THEY CAN DECEIVE. DON'T GO FOR WEALTH; EVEN THAT FADES AWAY. GO FOR SOMEONE WHO MAKES YOU SMILE BECAUSE IT TAKES ONLY A SMILE TO MAKE A DARK DAY SEEM BRIGHT. FIND THE ONE THAT MAKES YOUR HEART SMILE. THERE ARE MOMENTS IN LIFE WHEN YOU MISS SOMEONE SO MUCH THAT YOU JUST WANT TO PICK THEM FROM YOUR DREAMS AND HUG THEM FOR REAL! DREAM WHAT YOU WANT TO DREAM; GO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO; BE WHAT YOU WANT TO BE, BECAUSE YOU HAVE ONLY ONE LIFE AND ONE CHANCE TO DO ALL THE THINGS YOU WANT TO DO. MAY YOU HAVE ENOUGH HAPPINESS TO MAKE YOU SWEET, ENOUGH TRIALS TO MAKE YOU STRONG, ENOUGH SORROW TO KEEP YOU HUMAN, ENOUGH HOPE TO MAKE YOU HAPPY. ALWAYS PUT YOURSELF IN OTHERS' SHOES. IF YOU FEEL THAT IT HURTS YOU, IT PROBABLY HURTS THE OTHER PERSON, TOO. THE HAPPIEST OF PEOPLE DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE THE BEST OF EVERYTHING; THEY JUST MAKE THE MOST OF EVERYTHING THAT COMES ALONG THEIR WAY. HAPPINESS LIES FOR THOSE WHO CRY, THOSE WHO HURT, THOSE WHO HAVE SEARCHED, AND THOSE WHO HAVE TRIED, FOR ONLY THEY CAN APPRECIATE THE IMPORTANCE OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE TOUCHED THEIR LIVES. LOVE BEGINS WITH A SMILE, GROWS WITH A KISS AND ENDS WITH A TEAR. THE BRIGHTEST FUTURE WILL ALWAYS BE BASED ON A FORGOTTEN PAST, YOU CAN'T GO ON WELL IN LIFE UNTIL YOU LET GO OF YOUR PAST FAILURES AND HEARTACHES. WHEN YOU WERE BORN, YOU WERE CRYING AND EVERYONE AROUND YOU WAS SMILING. LIVE YOUR LIFE SO THAT WHEN YOU DIE, YOU'RE THE ONE WHO IS SMILING AND EVERYONE AROUND YOU IS CRYING. |

LET THE POOR SAY I AM RICH One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing his son how poor people can be. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family. On their return from the trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?" "It was great, Dad.""Did you see how poor people can be?" the father asked. "Oh yeah," said the son. "So what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father. The son answered, "I saw that we have one dog and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us and they have friends to protect them." With this, the boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are." Too many times we forget what we have and concentrate on what we don't have. What is one person's worthless object is another's prize possession. It is all based on one's perspective. Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks to God for the bounty we have been provided by Him instead of worrying about wanting more. THE DOUBT BROUGHT THE END There is a story of a Cliffhanger, determined to reach the summit of a high mountain. After years of preparation, he began his adventure. Only he journeyed alone because he wanted all the glory. He began his ascent, and as daylight faded he decided to continue climbing. Night fell. The night fell heavy as he was overcome by total darkness. The moonlight and starlight were hidden within the clouds. There was zero visibility. He was only a few meters away from the summit when he slipped climbing a ridge and fell off, falling at frightening speed. While falling he could only see shadow like figures in the darkness and felt the gravity sucking him down. In those anguishing moment, he saw his life pass before his eyes. He thought death was near when suddenly he felt the tighting of the rope around his waist that tied him to a nail embedded in the rock wall of the mountain. In desperation, suspended in mid-air he scream, --GOD help me!.. then unexpectedly a deep voice from heaven respond: ---What would you have me do?.."Save me"..---Do you really think I can save you?..of course My LORD.. ---Well then, Cut the rope....There was a moment of silence, then the man tighten the rope and his waist. The mountain rescue team tells a story of a man they found frozen to death, his hand wrapped firmly around a rope tied his waist...Hanging Two Feet from the ground. So...how tight are your ropes? Would you let go? I am the LORD your GOD who holds your right hand and I tell you "don't be afraid, I will help you". Isaiah 41:13 |

A homely sort of fellow, he had a talent for friendliness and optimism. He won many scholastic honors and the respect of his classmates. One day a classmate asked the cause of his deformity. "Infantile paralysis," was the brief reply. "But tell me," said the friend. "with a misfortune like that, how can you face the world so confidently?'" "Oh," he replied, smiling, "the disease never touched my heart." Attitude change things! Shared by mhel de leon taken from Word Ministry by Joe Gatuslao |
