Forward Mail??? - DON'T DO IT!!!

Once again I'd like to remind people NOT to Forward mail. There is hardly ever a reason to forward - just copy what you really want to send along, then paste that into a NEW letter. Forwarding mail is one of the "best" ways to send valid e-mail addresses along to others, where (eventually) they will probably be sold. If you don't know how NOT to forward mail, please write to me, telling me what e-mail program you're using and I'll send along a detailed explanation of "how to."

I have a "rule" set up in my Outlook Express that sends ALL forwarded mail to a separate folder, which I read about once a month. A lot of people have their rule set up to just "delete from server" any forwarded mail.

Outlook Express "Rules"

You will find that if you set up "rules" in Outlook Express, you can delete some of the JUNK mail that you get, even before it gets to your computer. It doesn't work with all junk mail, because the senders are getting more sophisticated all the time. They use Subjects like "letter from Sally" assuming that almost everybody knows someone named Sally. But we can control some of them.

Open Outlook Express.
Click on Tools - Message Rules - Mail.
Click on New.
Click in the second box on the upper portion of the next screen (Where the Subject contains....)
In the middle section, scroll down and click on Delete from server.
In the lower section, click on the blue writing that says "contains specific words."
On the next screen, type in any particular word that you know appears in junk mail - such as mortgage, debt, viagra etc. clicking on the Add button after each word. When you have all the words in, click on OK
At the bottom of this screen, you'll see that the rule has been given a number, but you can name it if you wish - but you can just leave it with a number.
Click OK.
The next time you get an e-mail with any of the words you have chosen, they won't be downloaded to your computer, but they will be deleted from your server, and you won't have to get that particular letter again.

Yahoo E-mail "Rules"

Go to your Yahoo mail page, while online.
Click on Mail Options, at the right edge of your screen.
Scroll down and click on Filters.
Click on Add.
Name the filter.
Choose either the From/To or Subject and leave "contains" showing.
Its probably best to use the Subject, as SPAM mailers keep changing their addresses.
Next to Subject, choose ONE word.
Next to "move to" choose the Trash folder.
You'll still get the mail, but won't have to look at it, and it won't clog up your Inbox. (Just click on Empty next to Trash, and it will be gone.)
Click Add Filter.

Be aware that you can only have 15 filters with the FREE Yahoo mail.
