Pop-Ups Bothering You?

I know that I hate to have to close all of those pesky little screens that open up when I go to some of web pages. Some pages are worse than others in that respect. Some of them will open 5 or more pages before you get to see what you wanted to look at in the first place.

Well, we can get rid of those. Go to http://www.panicware.com/product_psfree.html

From that site, click on Download. After you do that, you'll find three items that have boxes next to them for checkmarks. If you see a checkmark next to anything BUT Pop-Up Stopper Download, remove them by clicking on them. Be sure you have a checkmark next to Pop-Up Stopper Download though. You'll see the "price" of $0.00 there. Then click on Download on that screen.

On the next screen, you'll be warned that "Some files can harm your computer....." Click Save (Sometimes we're warned too much.)

On the next screen, you'll see WHERE the file will be saved. If you have a special place where you save your downloads, go there - otherwise if it wants to save on the Dessktop, just let it. Click Save (lower right corner) After the installation is complete, you can remove the Installation file from the desktop.

On the Download screen, if you have a checkmark next to "Close this dialog box when download completes" remove it while the download is going on. Then when the download is finished, click on Open (not Open Folder, just Open) and the installation will begin. (You don't every want the dialog box to close up completion of a download... if you do that, you just have to go find it in order to open it. Save yourself a step and use the Open button.)

You'll see a blue background screen during the installation. Click on Next on the next four screens. Then click Finish on the last one. Then click Close and OK to restart the machine.

The next time you go on the Internet, Pop-Up Stopper will start automatically.

Sometimes you run across a page that Pop-Up Stopper will keep you from opening, and you know you want to open it. Then just hold the Ctrl key while you click on the link to that page, and the page will open in the usual manner, with any pop-ups associated with it. I use the web page www.tvguide.com, and if I want to click on a particular program to see what that episode is about, I have to hold the Ctrl key first. Not a big deal, and you'll get used to it.

When Pop-Up Stopper is doing its thing, you'll see some red icons that are the traditional "NO" indicator, the red circle & slash, and you'll probably hear some sounds. That means that Pop-Up Stopper has stopped some pages for you. You'll be amazed at how many you'll see & hear as you surf the Internet.

If you have any problems with installing or using Pop-Up Stopper, please either send me e-mail, or look for me on whatever instant messaging program you may be using. I have them all.
