Commentary

AK brings us back to the relationship of artist to the process in this very funny image. Sympathizing with his subject matter, AK gives them leave to stage a coup, and this poor Frenchified Artist suffers their wrath. Frenchy has three works on display, and a fourth on the floor that has been smashed by his angry captors. The rebels are all visible in the work Frenchy has displayed, except for a bottle of wine that he painted in the middle image, which is now mysteriously absent. Frenchy probably drank the wine after finishing three paintings in one day, which could also explain the drunken mess of a painting on the floor. I'm still trying to figure out what appendages the apple and grapes are using to hold their weapons. The banana has mysterious arms with which to paint and hold a palette. This all comes together as a pun on both "Still Life," which clearly has become not so still, and the classic notion that an artist breathes life into his work. This has worked out far worse for Frenchy here than it did for Pygmalion, that lucky devil.
