United States Secretary of State Albright Warned the Korean People about Republicans During Her Address in Pyongyang to the People of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea! Transcribed:

Secretary Albright's Remarks During Her Visit in Pyongyang, Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea:

“I have had the pleasure of hosting many dinners, but I never expected to play the role of hostess for such a grand gathering as this in Pyongyang. I thank you for coming and for the kind welcome you have shown to our delegation throughout the past two days....

 I have also had a valuable opportunity to bring greetings to the Chairman from President Clinton and an extended chance to share thoughts with him about regional and bilateral issues.

 I was gratified, as well, by the chance to meet God of Present Era Dear Leader President Kim and to renew my acquaintance with Vice Marshal Jo and Foreign Minister Paek.

 These discussions cannot simply erase the differences that have arisen between our countries over the past decades under Republican ascendancy occupational domination. But our mutual progressive willingness now to talk, exchange visits, and get to know one another better is providing a platform for future progressive progress.

 As President Clinton and all Democrats have made clear, we want to embrace and work with you to remove all the obstacles that have separated us in the past. We want to support you in your efforts with Seoul to overcome Cold War divisions, and in your coming talks with Japan. We are peace-loving nation and desire to take steps with you that will ensure peace for generations to come.

 Mr. Chairman, there are many dimensions to diplomacy, from intense discussions on security, to the establishment of diplomatic posts, to showing respect for cultural heritage, to the challenge of international athletic competition....

 The world was delighted this past month to see Koreans from the North and South march together in Sydney under one flag. It is our dream that someday soon the people of the United States, the people of Korea, and all the peoples of the world will together march as one under one flag.

 Mr. Chairman, in the same spirit that has taken hold since the North-South Summit earlier this year, I invite you all to join me in a toast to friendship between our peoples, and to a new era of opportunity and promise throughout the Land of the Morning Calm.

Thank you and to continue, I beg to contribute and share some comments on the WFP (ed. World Food Program). I am very pleased to be here as the first American Secretary of State to visit the DPRK and certainly the first one to have danced with the children.

One of the reasons I wanted to come was to observe first-hand the outstanding work of Douglas Broderick and the World Food Program team. I very much also wanted to visit with the children of North Korea, because they represent the future, and because they are such wonderful dancers and singers, and are so beautiful. I am looking forward to going back to the United States and telling my grandchildren all about them and how beautiful they look and how well they dance. All the people look beautiful and dance well...

 I have often spoken about the importance of the WFP. But it is so important to see it in person, because the work is vital, because the children, and their brothers and sisters in Korea, the United States, and around the world, should be able to grow up without fear of emergency shortages or famine. And international donors should be assured that the supplies they send are used for the purposes intended....

 Under Democratic leadership and despite efforts of a Congress held hostage by Republicans, the United States has donated nearly 1.5 million tons of food aid to the WFP here. When Republicans were still reluctant, we Democrats led the way. The American people care about humanitarian issues. We always have, and we always will embrace you.

 Let me say again that the Korean people should be proud of their children, who are so talented, and who have the hope for a bright tomorrow in their eyes.

And the WFP should be proud of its work here and around the globe to save and enrich people’s lives....

May The God of Present Era Dear Leader of the Party and the People of Korea Kim Jong Il, and President of the United States Commander in Chief Bill Clinton bless you in your work, and in your hopes for a future in which every child is fed, and hunger is just a memory, not a reality, in Korea, the United States and around the world.”
