Download oMUD.zip (v2.04)
A very small update this time: changed oMUD to point to ShadowMUD's new address: theblacktower.com 3000.
Please check back here again in the next few days, in case I need to update something else.

Previous Version News:
Version 2.2, posted March 22 2004
A whole bunch of little features in this version, in several different categories. Every one of these
changes was a result from player feedback and suggestions, so thanks to everyone who contributed.
- General: Added a Find tool, to search for text in the main view. This is available through the Edit->Find
menu, or by pressing CTRL-F. NOTE: If you have a macro assigned to CTRL-F, it will override the Find tool.
- General: Added support for ShadowMUD's external Who server, to allow you to see who's
logged on, without logging on a character. Available through the File menu and the AutoLogin window.
- General: Reorganized the myriad of options windows into one, available through the Edit->Options menu.
- General: Added support for copying the entire view contents to the Copy and Paste clipboard. Available
by right-clicking on the window and selecting Copy Entire Buffer.
- General: Characters in the Autologin window can be selected as your Default Character. This means that
they will always be selected when the window opens. Otherwise, the window will behave as it always has: it will select
the last character that you used.
- Log File: Added support for retroactively dumping the entire view contents to the log file when logging
is turned on. This option is available in the Logging Options window.
- Log File: Added an option for having Logging always turned on by default.
- Log File: Added an option to auto-name the Log File, based on a configurable selection of character name,
login date, and time. NOTE: When using the character name option, there is a small bug where the MUD's login screen
will sometimes not be logged.
- Log File: The character name and login date and time will be added to the log file when logging begins.
- Status Window: Added an option for more compact enemy and party-member health bars, allowing more health
bars on screen. I think this looks a lot better, so this is turned On by default. It can be turned off in the Status
Window Options window.
- Status Window: Added an option for displaying party members above enemies. This should be useful for Clerics.
- Triggers: You can now specify a .WAV file to play when a Trigger is activated. You do this by simply typing
the .WAV filename in the Command field (ie. playme.wav). This can be combined with other non-WAV commands using command stacking.
Version 2.01, posted July 26 2003
Announcing oMUD 2.0! This is a major new version, packed with a bunch of yummy new features,
and probably even more bugs!
- Support for multiple character Profiles. These allow you to have different sets of
Triggers and Macros for different characters, or to share them between characters, or even to
switch which set you're using while playing.
- Health meters for party members will always be displayed in the Status Window (they used to be
displayed just during Combat). Note that it will usually take a second or so for their health to update.
- Phil now has wings if you're playing a Faerie character.
- I've added a lot more Macro-able keys.
- A surprisingly large number of bug fixes.
NOTE: Due to the overhaul of the Triggers and Macros, I was unfortunately unable to maintain backwards
compatibility with the old Preferences files. So, you will need to re-create your characters
in the Autologin window, and any macros/triggers that you created. I also suggest that you install this
version to an empty directory, to keep everything nice and clean.
UPDATE: I've posted a small update with these changes:
- Fixes for a number of bugs that showed up in Version 2.0
- An option for selecting the text in the edit field, as opposed to clearing it, when you hit [Enter]. This
is available in the 'Window->General Window Options' window.
Version 1.05, (posted July 5 2003)
This is another fairly small release, aimed at squashing some bugs, and adding a few of
the smaller feature requests that I've received over the last little while:
- Triggers can now be globally enabled/disabled through the Tools->Triggers menu
- The XP Required field in the Status Window now mimics the similar field in the Score command.
- The Status Window now has a scroll bar when its text overflows the window.
- The usual selection of bug fixes, both major and minor.
Version 1.04, (August 10 2002)
This version fixes several major bugs, hopefully without introducing any new ones :) I also
managed to squeeze in a few new features that people requested:
- The colours in the Armour status view now reflect the colours in the 'alimbs' command.
- There is now an optional Login pop up window for logging in on non-secure machines (it
hides your password entry). To activate/deactivate, go to the Window -> General Window Options
menu, and click on 'Use Login Do-hickey'
- The Skills window has been updated with the new skills in ShadowMUD.
- You can now force the Status Window and Skills window to use your Font selection instead
of the standard font; go to the Window -> General Status Options menu, and click on 'Use Font from
Main Window'
- Lots of bugs fixed..
Version 1.03 (November 1 2001)
Well geez, it's been... a long time since the last update. Real Life. Can't live with it... pass the beer nuts.
This version concentrates on eradicating as many of the remaining bugs as possible, which
caused a lot of oMUD to have to be rewritten from the ground up. You should find it much
nicer to use than previous versions.
- Fixed a number of crash bugs, and literally dozens of other bugs.
- Right-clicking on web addresses will give you the option of opening them in your
default browser.
- The font-handling code has been completely rewritten, and should be MUCH more stable.
Font-related bugs in the input line, status window, and elsewhere should all be splatted.
This should result in much better Font support for Windows2000 and WindowsNT.
- Better support for Cut/Paste.
- Full mouse wheel support. This may have already worked for some of you in the last version.
- Removed the 'Chat Window'. If this bugs you a lot, let me know and I'll see about fixing it up.
Version 0.11A (April 24, 1999)
I haven't had much time to work on oMUD recently, what with all that RL stuff. But,
I managed to squeeze in a few new things:
- An AutoLogin window. Automates the process of logging in a character for you;
pretty standard stuff if you've used other MUD clients. Two things about this:
- Your character passwords WILL NOT be encrypted when saved to the preferences
file. So, I don't recommend using this feature if you're worried about people looking
on your computer to learn your password.
- This doesn't support Auto-Reconnecting. Sorry, but that's just way too easy
to abuse. Not that I don't trust you guys or anything :)
- That annoying 'Not Disconnecting' bug is fixed.
- The hitherto nonexistant Narrow Status Window now exists. It's ugly, but at least
it's narrow!
- Other options for the Status Window work a lot better now: moving it to the left
side of the screen, or splitting it into a separate window both work a lot better,
and the Lag-o-Meter will follow them around now, instead of just disappearing.
Version 0.10A (Feb 14, 1999. A very exciting Valentine's day.)
- Online ShadowMUD Help. This feature lets you browse and access the ShadowMUD help files
in a nice GUI environment. You can access this through the Help menu. Note that you
need to be connected to the mud for this to work.
- Command Stacking. This allows you to send multiple commands to the MUD in one line of text.
Be warned that using this feature for running scripts is still not allowed on ShadowMUD; it is however
useful (and allowed) to use it for sequences of commands like: get all from corpse, offer corpse. If
you keep the command stack down to just a few commands, you'll be fine.
- The Lag-o-Meter! This will give you an approximation on how bad the lag on the MUD
is. It's not 100% accurate, but I find it fun to watch :)
- The About box contains a Download Latest Version button that will bring you back here.
- The connection code is now multithreaded. This means that it won't jam up and sit there dumbly while trying to connect to the MUD.
- It brews really good coffee, and bakes 3 kinds of bread. The Tea routine still needs some debugging, though.
- A few aesthetic improvements, most notably in the Status Window, and About Window.
- The usual bunch of bug fixes.
Version 0.09A (Jan 27, 1999)
- A ton of bug fixes to Copy / Paste. These should work quite nicely now.
- 'Fast' text copying with the mouse: any text you highlight with the mouse
will automatically be copied when you release the mouse button.
- It no longer crashes when you finger Terok. :)
- The colour changer should work properly on Win98 and WinNT now.
- Orange is now supported! :) For those of you who are used to seeing Orange as just
plain old yellow, you can change it back in the Colours window.
- A selective Log File. You can log everything, or just Tells, Says, Channels, whatever.
The Log is activated in the File menu, and you can change its options under the Edit menu.
If you can think of a better place to put those, I'm all ears :)
- What with ShadowDevel moving over to ShadowMUD's old address (shadowmud.pipcom.com 3000) soon,
this version will allow you to connect to that addres.
- A pop-up news window that will notify you of any oMUD news.
Version 0.08A:
- This is a really tiny update, mainly with bug fixes to the scrolling.
It also seems to have cleared up the problem with the colour changer freezing
on some peoples' machines. Given that I didn't really do anything though, I
don't guarantee that it's actually fixed :)
Version 0.07A:
- This version was a pretty big overhaul of the previous version, consisting
of numerous bug fixes, as well as a number of new features:
- Copy&Paste seems to work quite nicely now. Also included is a
multi-line paste command which allows you to paste large blocks of text
in one go (useful for writing long posts in the text editor of your choice
and then pasting them onto the MUD)
- Colours are working much better now, as well as proper support for
bold colours. As an added bonus, your colour preferences will actually
save when you quit now! Ain't technology wonderful? :)
- Text wrapping seems to be working nicely. Currently you tell oMUD
how many characters wide you want each line to be, but eventually I'd like
to get it to calculate that directly from the window width (let me know
if you disagree).
- Right-click on any word in the main window to pop up a menu that lets
you examine that object (ie. right clicking on 'orc' will allow you
to automatically do a 'exa orc'. Could be useful for strange names and
lazy people :) A similar new feature is available for our coders: right
clicking on a filename gives you the option of editing it. I personally
find this very useful given how long some of our pathnames are getting..
- Remember that green guy who shows you your body damage? (I call
him Phil). Well, he can now show you how armoured you are. Right click
on him and it should be pretty obvious how to get that working.
- A bunch of other minor cosmetic changes that you'll no doubt notice
:)
Version 0.06.3A:
This version is mainly a bug-fix release. Most importantly, it should
fix the problem that causes oMUD to crash when you enter too much input
at once.
- A few cosmetic changes: power bars have a grey background, so you
can see what their maximum value is.
- The status of fellow party members shows up in the status window during
combat.
Version 0.06A:
- An optional Chat Window. Now, due to the wonders of modern technology,
you can engage in a massive battle with Daemons from hell and easily carry
on a civilized conversation with your chums at the same time! Note only
Tells, chat lines, Shouts and Says appear in the chat window; emotes and
party lines and a few other things don't (yet)
- A popup Skills Window. This window maintains a display of your skills
so that you can watch them go up in Real Time! :)
- A variety of options have been added to the Status Window. For instance,
you can now make it appear on the left (instead of the right :) and you
can turn it into a popup window so you can move it around and resize it
to your own preference.
Version 0.05A:
- Simple Macros & Triggers. Note, however, that even though I coded
Triggers, I don't condone their use except for very basic things. Okay,
so I'm a hypocrite :)
- Most of the various preferences actually *save* now. What a great
idea, huh? :)
Version 0.04A:
- A windowed code editor for our coders!
Version 0.03A:
- Basic cut&paste operation (the shortcut keys don't work yet though..
ie. ctrl-c won't do anything when copying from the view window)
- Your character's experience points, # of xp needed for next level,
and # of xp earned since logging in is displayed in the status window
- When in combat, a list of your attackers, and bar giving you a general
idea of their health appears in the status window. Note that you'll have
to stretch the window vertically (or just maximize it) in order to see
this.
