Timothy J. Leon

As of today, the 16th of October, 2005, I have been in prison for over twenty-five years; my name is Tim Leon. In 1980, I caught a man in the act of sexually molesting a baby girl. I tried to report the crime and get some help, but no one would listen. After trying in vain to get help, there was a fight in which the man died (details).

All of this happened three weeks before my twenty-first birthday. Now I am over forty-five years old, and have spent half my life in prison, never having seen a day of freedom since then. I have never been in trouble before (see my early life); I know I used poor judgment and would change the past if I could.

I have changed significantly since then, learning anger management, self-control and more. I continue to participate in self-help and self-improvement, and I am actively involved in ROCK, a youth diversion program to help kids learn to make better choices than I did.

I have educated myself in prison, earning college credit and becoming a certified Laubach tutor. In my spare time, I tutor other men in math, reading, music and science. I taught myself Electronics and became a Certified Electronic Technician, having earned three Journeyman certifications with the Electronics Technicians Association, International in Computer, Consumer and Industrial Electronics (see certificates).

In the little bit of leisure time that I get, I enjoy exercise but I sometimes play guitar and sing. I speak other languages such as Spanish and American Sign Language and I enjoy nature though I only get to see it on television now.

Since I same to prison when I was 20 years old, I've never really had a chance to build a family. I've never been married and don't have any children. I enjoy making new friends and will reply to anyone who contacts me. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a computer. You can write me directly at the address below. You can e-mail me but it may take longer since it must be forwarded to me.

If you wonder why I am still in prison, I have been eligible for parole since 1995. *UpDATE. I RECEIVED A DATE FOR RELEASE AS BEING FOUND SUITABLE FOR PAROL OCT.2004 TO BE RELEASED MARCH 2005 FOLOWING THE REVIEW PROCESS. THE NOW CURRENT GOVERNOR Arnold Schwarzenegger reversed the decision 6 days before the release. But California has been following a political agenda which targets all prisoners with "life" sentences (Lifers) by virtually never releasing any of them, regardless of their situation. The Board of Prison Terms is controlled by Governor Davis and he has stated that he will not release any life prisoners. I need your help to get out. I have a new parole hearing date in October 2005. I have done everything they have ask me to do. Is now Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger following the same agenda? You can help by writing a support letter to the BPT.
