NEW YORK (AP) - Seven MTV employees were fired Friday as they allowed 24-year-old Tim Bennett to win their "TRL Sweepstakes." Bennett was chosen as the grand prize winner of the "TRL Sweepstakes sponsored by Snapple" late Friday afternoon.

"I am still in a state of shock," said Bennett, when reached in his parents' basement at their suburban Cleveland home. "Do they realize who I am? Do they realize that I am 24 and I live in my parents basement?"

"Wait a second, you picked who?
MTV could not be reached for comment, but it is widely speculated that the seven employees were fired for not selecting an 18 to 20-year-old female as the grand prize winner.

As grand prize winner, Bennett and a guest receive roundtrip airfare, two night hotel accommodation, entry to a live taping of MTV's TRL and $1,000 cash.

Bennett entered said contest on MTV.com by voting for a video for the TRL countdown.

"A few times a week I'll watch TRL to see what the kids are listening to. You know, to see what's hip, what's happening. One day my boy Carson was telling people to vote online, so I voted for the new Weezer video. That's the only time I've ever voted, so that must have been it."

Keep dreaming, Tim

Bennett has been riding a hot streak as of late, as just last week he touched two Backstreet Boys.

"This is possibly the hottest I've ever been," said Tim. "This kind of stuff just doesn't happen to me. I need to track down Tiffani Theissen [Saved By The Bell, Beverly Hills, 90210] and propose to her tonight."

Bennett proceeded to spend his Friday night in his parents' basement, eagerly anticipating the second season of The Mole.
