Cabin Trip - July 4th '06

On this July 4th cabin trip the big project was to dig a new latrine and move the old outhouse. We dug a 4' x 4' hole that was 7' deep, then lined it with 18" x 8" x 6" cinder blocks, glued together with "Beat the Nail" adhesive. The bottom of the hole is full of ~8" of crushed rock. We filled the cinder blocks with packed dirt to help stabilize them, and ran a 8' fencing post down the center holes on the mid-point of each side. The final inside dimensions measured 30" x 30" x 72", or 37.5 cubic feet (that's a lot of poop). Because of our clean livin', we then discovered that the old concrete "ring" platform fit over our cinder-blocked hole with about 1" to spare, so we were able to move it from the old location to the new location. All this was the easy part. Then we had to move the old outhouse which was built like a brick house and weighed about as much. I deny all knowledge of how it was actually moved. Suffice it to say, we got it moved and then all fixed up and then I was graciously selected by all present to break it in--a sort of a high-risk trial run, if you will. I'm happy to report that it all works just as planned.

Where's that colt?
Before hitting the cabin, we stopped by Rebekah's to see the new colt.

Almost deep enough! (Believe it or not, I didn't get any pictures of the completed project--only the hole digging...)

Good place to store the kids while we run into town.
