BLACK BLUE GREEN RED WHITE ARTIFACT GOLD LAND

In this web page, I hope to present to you strategies, combos, and obscure uses for a new Magic: The Gathering card every single day.

The Card of the Day is...

Erosion

The Dark, Fourth Edition Common
UUU Enchant Land

"During his or her upkeep, target land's controller pays 1 or 1 life, or target land is destroyed. Effects that prevent or redirect damage cannot be used to counter this loss of life."

I believe I once read that Erosion is Richard Garfield's least favorite card. I can see why. Local enchantments always have that element of risk about them--especially ones that aren't too easy to play (three blue mana is a beast in anything but an all blue deck). Erosion also kinda only nullifies the use of one land. The land you play Erosion upon will probably be able to keep paying the upkeep on Erosion to keep itself alive. If your opponent chooses not to pay that 1 mana upkeep, they land will erode away, and you might be able to convince yourself that paying UUU was worth it to trash one land. Is Erosion worthless? No, there are just better ways to shorten an opponent's mana supply with every other color. A simple Stone Rain is soo much better--it is MUCH easier to cast and doesn't piddle around like Erosion. If you do need to mess with an opponent's lands in an all blue deck though, you might want to actually consider Erosion. Here are some ideas to help get the most out of Erosion:
