Psionics: Reconstructed

Notes / Classes / Levels

Version 1.09: Background has been changed to white again because I find people often want to print out this page and the darker backgrounds screw up the printers, so...  sorry bout your eyes ;)

Ever notice that a 1st level Mind Mage with carefully choosen psionics could beat a 15 lvl. Palladin.  Or at least give him a very good fight.  This, in my opinion, was one of the major downfalls of the 2nd Ed. of PFRPG.  The 1st edition had the psionics by level, and the only reason they aren't anymore is so the game could be more compatable with Rifts.  I love having psionics, and I've been almost every kind.  In the first edition, I played a Mind Mage, and in 2nd ed. I played an Illusionist, Mind Mage, and Psi-Mystic.  Only now do I see that the Mind Mage, and Psi-Mystic were way to powerful.  Why? Because the Illusionist has a specific set of psionics just for him.  The Mind Mage and the Psi-Mystic get to choose.

Notes and Rules Changes

-Ok, let me first say that this is entirely optional and if you like the way the psionics are done in the 2nd ed., well heck, more power to you.  The psionics were reconstructed here for the people who liked the level progression more from the original PFRPG.  I like the level progression because I think it adds more balance to the game, but understand that I'm not saying this is the way it should be done or anything, this is just one more option for all the Roleplaying groups out there to consider.  Thanks.

-These rules have never been play tested as of yet.  If you'd be willing to give em a shot and let me know what you think, I'd be most grateful (especially your thoughts on what I have for the Mind Mage).  I am ALWAYS looking for ways to improve this section and any imput you would have would be greatly appreciated, even if it's as small as moving a psionic to a different level.  Please E-mail me what you think, or if you have any questions.

-This deals mostly with the psionic classes and their psionics, all the non-psionic classes still have the basic chances of being a minor or major psionic as per the rules in Step #4 of creating your character.

-All Psionics that the Psionic Class originally comes with, still come with him no matter what level they may be on except where otherwise stated.

-Psi-Sword, Psi-Shield can be used or not used according to your G.M.'s preference.  Some groups like the idea of the Sword and the Shield while others hate it.  I have also included Telemechanics and Electrokinesis in the listing just because they are psionics that can be taken, why you would take them I don't really know.

Individual Psionic Classes:

Psychic Sensitive:

Psychic Sensitive remains exactly as stated in the Palladium 2nd Ed. Main Book, except where on the 3,6,9,12, and 15 lvl, where you get to choose one new Physical / Super power, the power must be below or equal to the level the psionic has currently attained.  (Ex. A 3rd level Psychic Sensitive can choose any physical or super ability 3rd level or below, so they would not be able to take for instance, Group Mind Block yet, but they could take Bio-Manipulation)  However, all Sensitive powers are open to him as of first level, choose at will.

Psi-Healer

As with the Psychic Sensitive, the Psi-Healer may choose any psionic from any level within the the Healing powers, but if they wish to choose a physical, they must follow the level progression, not being able to choose a physical skill above their current level.

Psi-Mystic

I highly suggest you entirely ban this O.C.C. from your gaming as the whole concept of a Psionic / Magic user is ludicrous from the get-go.  They have the ability to have to much power, and are your basic insert from Rifts.  But, if you insist on keeping this O.C.C. available I suggest that you go by the Psionics level progression table that I have.  Also, that you not use the two W.P.'s that automatically come as O.C.C. skills, that boxing not be available as a physical, and that the O.C.C. related skills you originally start out with are lowered from 6 to 4 because the Psi-Mystic has little care for any education.

Mind Mage:

Level 1: Mind Mage starts with: Mind Block, See aura, meditation, plus 7 1st lvl. psionics of choice.

Each additional level the Mind Mage may choose 6 psionics from the new level or below. (i.e. A 3rd level mage can choose any new psionics from levels 1-3)

Special: Starting in the 1st level, if the Mind mage contains all the psionics from any of the 3 lesser catagories (Healing, Physical, or Sensitive), they may jump to taking the next level psionics from that catagory.  But they may go now farthur then 1 level over there current level.(i.e.  M.M. decides on first level he'll take the 3 physical psionics right away leaving him with 4 choices, he may now jump to the 2nd level listing of physical psionics and choose psionics from there also.  He decides to take Death Trance, Impervious to fire, and Nightvision, but for his last psionic he chooses Object Read from the Sensitive catagory.  The next level he chooses the remaining 2nd level physical psionics, and 3 physicals from the 3rd level.  On 3rd level he chooses the last 3rd level physical psionic, and takes float and ectoplasm from the 4th level psionics, but he can't take the 5th level physical psionics until next level, so with his remaining 3 psionics he chooses Bio-Manipulation, Detect Psionics, and Telepathy.)

Illusionist:  The Additional Psychic sensitive powers that Illusionist gets, he will still get without any change, the 2 additional that he gets to choose from may be from any of the Sensitive powers no matter the level.  The rules about the Illusion powers are very vague.  G.M.'s be wary of Illusionist P.C.  They can be more deadly then a Mind Mage if you don't set bounds and stick with them.
