Character Background

Mar Jasril is a native of Waterdeep.  He is the fourth child of Alexi and Savannah Morningstar, famous brewers.  Although he spent much of his youth learning the family business, Jasril soon found his interest lie elsewhere.  At the age of 19, he left the family business and took up painting under the renowned master artisan Firen.  However, when his father became angry and threatened to disown him, Jasril returned to the family business.

Once back at the Morningstar Brewery, Jasril quickly became bored.  After another year, his father (under pressure from Jasril's mother), decided to cut Jasril free and allow him to venture away on his own.  Since then, Jasril has resumed his painting.

Unknown to most of his family, he is also dabbling in thievery and the magic arts.  He studies magic under the direction of Syrus the Wise, who sees great potential in Jasril.  The two are quite close.  Syrus sees Jasril as the son he never had, and Jasril sees Syrus as an understanding father.

Unlike his painting and magic, Jasril's thievery is entirely self-taught.  He has kept his thieving skills hidden from Syrus, whom he fears will be disappointed should he discover Jasril's second occupation.  To date, he has largely confined his thievery to adventuring and stealing works of art from private holders.  In fact, Jasril views himself as the Robin Hood of art and cutlure--stealing from the rich private holders and donating the artwork to museums and art schools where they may be enjoyed by the general population.  One of Jasril's life dreams is to establish his own art school and museum.

Jasril currently resides in Madame Garah's Boarding House in the Adventurer's Quarter of Waterdeep, with his sister Sabrina and brother Olek.  Sabrina is one year younger then Jasril, the fifth child of Alexi and Savannah Morningstar, and earns a living as a music instructor and entertainer.  She and Jasril are extremely close.  Olek is the second child of Alexi and Savannah.  He is 37 years old and owns a small shop in the Southern Ward known as the Silver Dragon Suppliers.  Olek and Sabrina are the only two people in whom Jasril confides his magic and thievery.

Jasril's other brothers and sisters are all in the family business.  They are: Alexi Morningstar II, age 45 and the eldest child, who currently runs the Morningstar Brewery; Lyra Bynar, age 35 and the third child, currently chief master brewer; and Alyska, age 17 and the youngest child, who is currently in training to enter the family business but is expressing serious reservations to the dismay of Alexi.
