Campaign Events

the First Turn

(1504-01)

1.  Explorers have been seeking and finding ruins more than a millennium old and emerging from these lost cities with untold wealth and knowledge.  A commoner from Illien has offered to sell a map to the location of the lost city of Arador, located on the continent of Anduria south of Mieres.

Regent's Response:  Tell Illien nothing.  Set up meeting with the commoner.

2.  The Book of Days has been stolen from the Imperial Conservancy in the City of Anuire.  It holds the secrets of the heavens and earths.  Many have died to possess it.  Rumors place the book somewhere in the Three Kingdom area (Illien, Roesone and Aerenwe), perhaps in the Erebannien.  The Chamberlain, Caliedhe Dosiere, has requested we find the book and return it without letting anyone know it's missing.

Regent's Response: Contact guilds.  Put resources into finding the book, perhaps earning the favor of the Chamberlain and thus the City of Anuire and Avanil, thereby putting pressure on Diemed.

3.  A shipment of infantry weapons and equipment has been stolen by bandits believed to be operating out of the Erebannien.  Although the theft does not threaten our military effectiveness, it nevertheless represents a significant loss of face and property to the kingdom.

Regent's Response: Investigate and reinforce with an infantry division.

4.  A new order of knighthood, known as the Knights of the Silver Cross, has recently emerged in the province of Ghoried.  Little is known of the knights, except that they are led by a charismatic woman named Azleen Belor, who has pledged loyalty to your crown.

Regent's Response: Investigate.

5.  Enemy troops from Osoerde have been reinforcing their position along our border.

Regent's Response: Reinforce our position along the border with new troops.

Actions Between the Turns

1.  The wedding of two powerful families--the Peliens and the Bellaens--was scheduled to take place in River Hall, Bellam.  During the events surrounding the ceremony, the king participated in a jousting tournament and was defeated by a commoner in the first round.  The sergeant of his personal bodyguards, however, competed in the swordsmanship competition and won a first place platinum trophy.  On the evening prior to the ceremonies, an assassin named Terem, servant of Jonathan Pelien killed the bride to be, and attempted to kill the king.  His attempt on the king was unsuccessful due to the quick thinking of the kings personal guard.  Terem was questioned, but died before giving the identity of the individual who ordered him to kill the king.  The death of the bride to be plunged the rival families into violent conflict.

2. At the same time, a messenger arrived with word that the Osoerde army was moving on Bellam.  In addition to the Royal Armies, the king was served by a unit of Knights of the Silver Cross, as well as two cavalry units, one under the command of Hadrien Pellien and the other under the command of Ladie Bellean.  The king was betrayed by Pellien’s cavalry, who were ultimately defeated, but not before Pellien fled.  His current location is unknown.

3.  Upon returning home, the king received a message from the well-known bandit Dalien Claw.  The message read, “Dalien Claw wishes to advise you on matters of state.  Arrive at his stead in the Cavern of Lost Hopes on the seventh day of the new month to discover his news.  Bring up to five companions to assure your safety, though you have his word that you will not be harmed.  Though you might not trust the Claw, you have no other option.  Matters transpire within the realm of which you have no knowledge.”  Dalien Claw is barely civilized, known for the brutal slaying of his victims, but is also widely considered a man of his word.

the First Turn Continued...

(1504-01A)

1.  With the defeat of Osoerde’s expeditionary forces, you have secured your position as head of state.  Other regents are sending words of congratulations on your ascension to the throne:
Archpriestess Suris Enlien of Medoere sends her heartfelt condolences on the death of your father, and offers the guidance of a certain Patriarch Tosiere in your time of grief.  The patriarch and his retinue are quartered at the Crown and the Lion, the finest inn in Proudglaive, waiting for your response.  Undoubtedly, the patriarch has more on his mind than words of comfort.  Relations with Medoere have been quite close for several years now, and perhaps the time has come for solidifying our relations with an alliance.

Rogr Aglondier, Count of Illien, sends his condolences as well, and congratulates you on your coronation.  He hopes you will honor the friendship he shared with your father.  I have always thought that Illein needed our protection to flourish, my lord; perhaps this is a good time to seek a more formal agreement with the count concerning his status as a free city under our protection.

Liliene Swordwraith, Queen of Aerenwe, sends her greetings, and conveys her wish that you honor the peace your father enjoyed with her realm.  She earnestly hopes that you will guard the Erebannien from any more logging, especially in the province of Abbatuor.  The Aerenweans have generally given up hope on bringing your eastern lands back under their rule; I suspect that Liliene’s desire for continued peace is stronger than her desire to see the Erebannien remain unspoiled.

Jaison Raenech of Osoerde sends his greetings, and apologizes for the “misunderstanding” occurring between your forces in Bellam.  He also suggests that he would be willing to formally recognize your claim to all the lands of Roesone, including Bellam, in return for your acknowledgment of his claim over William Moergen.

Regent's Response: Met with representatives of Medoere and Illien to negotiate military alliance.  Also agreed to the construction of a three part military academy, with naval units trained in Illien, mounted units in Medoere and foot units in Roesone.  Lawyers are currently busy drafting the necessary treaties.  Sent a sharply worded message to Osoerde, warning against future conflict.  Finally, send Vasili to discuss the status of the Erebannien and Osoerde with Aerenwe.

2.  An accounting of the Royal properties has been conducted.  Royal properties across the realms currently comprise:

3.  Unfortunately, the current location of the Royal Vault remains unknown.  Your father died before he passed the information along.  However, the vault is believed to contain a treasure worth approximately 10gb.  My subordinates are currently trying to locate the vault.  On a more personal note, Vasili warned against trusting the Royal Seneshal, as he has been known to embezzle funds from time to time.

Regent's Response: Keep an eye on the Seneshal, and try to find hard evidence of his actions.

4.  The commoner from Illien with the map has arrived in Proudglaive at your request.  We have looked into his story.  His name is Kazan, and he claims to have found the map behind a painting purchased at the estate auction of a former adventurer-wizard.  He has offered to sell the map for 8gb and an royal appointment in Duerlin with accompanying lands and titles.

Regent's Response:  Meet with the commoner to discuss price.  Learned that he was running from the Thieves Guild.  Finally came to an agreement and purchased map.  Later, Kazan was found dead over his stew in the castle tower.  The only clue as to his murder was a card marked by a skull and crossbones underscored by a red dagger.

5.  Our investigation into the Knights of the Silver Cross has yielded a little information.  The Order is apparently a new but growing association.  It recruits from militaries across the land, and currently operates in nearly every state in the Southern Coast realm.  We have been unable to gain any information as to the workings or goals of the order, as the knights are sworn to secrecy.  However, they have served us well in the battle against Osoerde, and have not given us cause for concern.  We will continue to investigate.

6.  Investigations into the Book of Days have so far been unsuccessful, and we continue to look into the matter.

Regent's Response:  Continue to investigate.

7.  Nothing further has been heard from the bandits operating in the Erebannien who stole the weapons.  Apparently, the soldiers stationed in the area have had the desired effect.

8.  A representative of Count Rogr Aglondier, a man named Lord Siverhawk, desires to meet with you concerning matters of diplomacy and military security.  There is no word as to what he desires to propose.

9.  The conflict between the Balleans and the Pelliens has grown worse.  Since Hadrein Pelliens betrayl, the Belleans have hired assassins, mercenaries and arsonists to attack the Pellien family, thier holdings and supplies.  The Pelliens gave responded in a like manner.  The loyalty and security of the province has been severely undermined.

the Second Turn

(1504-02)

1.  We have found a lead regarding the Book of Days.  The Constable was incorrect.  The Book is actually being held by a pirate, Ulrik the Dark, on the Isle of Albiele.  Unfortunately, the island is claimed by Mieres, who has been less than cooperative in the past.  Furthermore, the island is a known haven for pirates and smugglers of all sorts.  At the same time, The Constable appears to be getting quite anxious about recovering the Book, and has threatened to restrict all access to the Imperial Conservancy until the Book is recovered and returned.  Needless to say, this would put a kink in our interpretation of the map information given to us by the commoner Kazan.

2.  The armies of Diemed appear to be readying for action, but their intended target is unknown.  Medoere is worried about possible attack, and has recalled all but one unit from the capital to its western border.  The Archpriestess has recruited several new units, which are currently in training, and has contacted several mercenary organizations to hire troops.  She has not yet requested our assistance.

3.  A secret representative of Jaison Raenech was seen entering the keep of Baron Tael of Ghoere, but the exact nature of any discussions remains unknown.

4.  The conflict between the Balleans and the Pelliens continues to worsen.  The loyalty and security of the province has been severely undermined by their continued conflict, and our tax collections have been severely limited as a result.  (Only collect 1/4 rounded down, and the province loyalty declines by one level.)  I strongly suggest his majesty do something, else the region will surely fall into rebellion and civil war.

5.  Negotiations with Medoere and Illien proceed in good faith.  We have had no problems with Illien, but Medoere is concerned with our close relationship with the Impregnable Heart of Haelyn.  The Archpriestess would like us to cease recognition of IHH as the official state religion, and allow our people to chose thier faith more freely.  Although they have yet to respond, IHH remains powerful and influential throughout our realm, and such an action would surely offend the them.
