The years have been kind to the sports entertainment industry. With the resurgance of various federations throughout the country the business is more prosperous than ever. And the popularity has grown to enormous proportions. This has not gone unnoticed by the public. The PTC and other organizations have been looking to ban this business for years. But yet it becomes more popular. It seems that the more they hound the sports entertainment industry to tone it down the more popular it becomes. And one of those profiting from the prosperity is DRWF. A fledgling federation on the brink of greatness. And one man that hopes to become part of this greatness is a young man by the name of Jayson Merrick.

Merrick is no stranger to the business. He has been in the business of violence since he was learning to drive. If it wasn’t the underground fighting scene …it was his involvement in NOAH. Any way he has been involved in violence since he was at the young age of sixteen. He hopes to continue his reign of pain in DRWF.

At the moment Merrick is waiting for his opportunity to break into DRWF. He has got the contract signed and is ready to begin at any time. His restless spirit has been noticeable. Instigating fights and causing chaos wherever he goes. He cannot wait to get into that ring and get back to his ways. But he has to wait. So this is where we find him….waiting. He is inside the DRWF sanctioned gym hitting a heavy bag. With every impact of his fist on the bag you can see the anger that boils inside of him. But as we look back on his life the anger cannot be traced to a horrible family life. In fact his father and mother were model citizens. But yet Merrick could not accept this fact. He scoffed at normalcy. He hated to be among the dreary and boring life his parents lived. He thrived for action. He thrived to risk his life in a world that recognized such an attitude. Jayson Merrick wanted out of his drab life and he found an opportunity. That opportunity’s name was Lo Spong.

Spong was a martial arts instructor that resided in Merrick’s hometown of Glasgow, Scotland. He was a man that was small in stature but strong in will. He was a 5th degree black belt in jujitsu. He knew how to cause pain and agony to a person that Merrick could only dream of and Merrick wanted to be a part of this. He wanted to learn how to focus his boredom…his anger. So that is when he went to meet Spong.

He walked into the dojo and was immediately in awe from the surroundings. It was not the clean and spotless life he was used to. The dojo was small and damp with a few windows. Old wrestling mats covered the floor and there were a couple heavy and speed bags hanging from the ceiling. The lighting was dim and the pipes that were exposed on the ceiling were damp and dripping onto the mat. But Merrick did not care. This is what he had hoped for. A place where he can be comfortable. A place that was less than perfect.

Merrick began his training. A hard and rigorous training that would take a lot of his life away. A life that he did not care much about before. A life that would be changed in a heartbeat with one phone call from a man who had noticed Merrick’s progress in amateur competitions. This man offered Merrick a chance to enter into a world of high price stakes where he would enter into a caged in area and fight for profit. The world of underground shoot fighting. Merrick looked at his options and decided that he would enter into this world of pain.

Jayson loved his new life. He could not be beat. His size and skill were his key to greatness in this arena. He went through opponent after opponent and never lost a match. He was living a life of a king and he never forgot about his family. He gave them everything they never had. He was living a life of luxury. Until the day when his world came crashing down around him. The day that would change his life forever.

It was like any other fight. He stepped into the cage and looked across the ring at an opponent that reeked of cockiness and arrogance. He thought he could not be beat and wanted to prove that against the great Jayson Merrick. But something went awry with his plans. He was standing toe to toe with Merrick. Exchanging blows and different submissions. They were going at it like two pitbulls. But his one wrong move cost him. As he went for a take down Merrick countered by coming around behind him. Merrick went for a choke maneuver on the man. As he wrenched back he heard a snap. The man went limp and Merrick was standing above him looking down upon his victim. The medical staff came in to pronounce the man dead. Merrick just looked down at the mans fallen corpse. A smile came across his face as they put him on a stretcher and took him from the cage. The owner of the place came up to Merrick after the fight and told him that he was not permitted to participate anymore. This crushed Jayson to the point where he cut himself off from society. The thing that kept him sane has been taken away from him. Or so he thought.

It was about a month later and Merrick was helping Spong in teaching jujitsu. A man entered the dank gym and requested Merrick’s presence. He told Merrick that he was a representative of a sports entertaiment in Japan that was just getting started by the name of NOAH. He explained the business and the legitimacy of it. Merrick thought about it for a couple of days and decided to enter into this business. It was something that could get him back into what he likes best…fighting.

He went into NOAH and was doing rather well. Numerous title reigns and victories made him one of the top players in Japan. But he missed something. The competition was stale. His size made him a dominant force in NOAH but maybe too dominant. So finally he gave it up. He had heard of the business and its popularity over in the United States. So he hopped on a plane and headed for his dream. That brings us to the present.

As we were before we find Merrick working out in the DRWF gym getting a good workout in. He finally stops hitting the bag and walks over to the bar to get a drink. He walks over to his gymbag and pulls out that black journal again with a pen. He takes a seat at the bar and begins to write….

‘April 14, 2002

I cannot wait for this to start. Its been too long since the days of NOAH and I want to get back into it again. I know that this was a project in waiting but this is getting ridiculous. Everytime I walk through this locker room I want to start something with someone…anyone. I want to get something started. But right now I cant. I have to keep my patience in check. Have to keep focused on a goal.’

Just then a little man walks up the Merrick.

“Can I sit here?" the man asks.

Merrick looks up at the man and gives out a growl. The hateful look in Merrick’s eyes prompt the man to hurry away. Merrick continues writing..

‘Never have I seen a mix of misfits and egomainiacs. The people around here are just prime for the beating. But I must wait. My plans have a timetable and I must wait to take care of this. They can all live in there security now but there day of reckoning is near. They don’t know the fate that awaits them.

I’ve seen most of the people walking around in a daze. They have been shown a world of splendor and pleasure. But they are all oblivious to it all. They do not know that they are all destined for obscurity. But I will let them live in their naivity for now.

Pain. That is my pleasure. The pleasure of beating a man until he cannot defend himself anymore. To watch his blood flow with every beat of his heart. The pleasure of hearing his screams as he begs me not to stop the pain. A scream that encourages me to keep beating him. To keep the pain flowing. To give my cravings their just due. They are all just victims in waiting. Their little lives are about to succumb to my pleasure. Their blood is going to be on my hands. They…..’

Merrick is interrupted by one of the trainers. He gives the man a glare and continues writing.

‘…..have no understanding of the change that their world is about to succomb to. Blood on the Beach seems like the perfect place. It seems a fitting ground to unleash my plans. If they only knew what they were in for. I can see it in their eyes. My assault on Hendrix has them wondering about what I have in store for them. But the do not realize that what I did to Hendrix was just the beginning. The beginning of a long trail of broken bodies and broken dreams. ‘

He looks around him to see the other DRWF superstars working out and a smile comes across his face as he writes one last passage.

‘Blood on the Beach….what a fitting name. The gathering of the DRWF elite. An international audience. The bloodletting begins.’

He closes up his book and puts it back in his bag. He grabs his gear and walks out of the gym.

What does he have planned? Who is his first target? I guess only time will tell….
