Hindu Terrorism and Shankaracharya

Updated 7:30 AM May 29, 2000 By Sid Harth

I consider Adi Sankara, a Namboodiri Brahmin from a small, sleepy town called Kaladi, my guru. I never met him. However, one sweltering afternoon, at a shrine, a small shrine, not a multi million dollar Hindu sprawling temple in the United States of America, a sat in lotus position and lost myself to the memory of that brave warrior, prince of Vedanta philosophy of Hindus.

My guide did not know what to do as, perhaps several minutes, perhaps in excess of hour or two I was motionless, as motionless as a piece of stone. Later, this young priest told me that he was worried, so was the chief of that school which takes care of the shrine, thinking I am gone for good.

The stone steps behind the shrine led me to the river, where the legend says that young Sankara struggled with a crocodile trying to make mince meat and meal of a young Brahmin boy. The legend may be or may not be true. Sankara asked permission to join the ascetic cult to his mother, besides herself and crying for god's intervention to save, Sankara's life and willing to make a suitable sacrifice.

Boy Sankara said if his mother did not object to his renouncing the mundane world he would be released. Lo and behold, Sankara was left alone, perhaps his lean body did not have enough meat to satisfy crocodile's hunger or the crocodile found a fat Namboodiri Brahmin's butt more delicious, who knows?

As revelation to young Sankara in a crisis, the ultimate crisis where the maximum price had to be paid by all participants, including hungry crocodile only the extent each committed to the promise of sacrifice saved the world. Crocodile found it futile to bite Brahmin butt, Sankara found futile to lead a life of a leech, mother found it futile to held her son prisoner of her will and the river found futile to witness to a carnage. Whatever may be the case, things worked out good for the humanity.

Subsequently, after Sankara's ritual training in religion, philosophy and ascetic life style he became a terror to reckon with. Another legend states that young ascetic, now called as Shankaracharya, in plain English, a teacher named Sankara, would walk to the main square of any town, village or camp of ascetics like him, put his walking stick firmly to the ground and yell, scream loudly so that anyone in the town hears him.

His technique was confrontational and reeked of ascetic pride. The challenge was meant for all those who claimed certain knowledge, certain training, certain following to come and debate with Sankara. Not one time Sankara lost this wordly duel. Most all small cults and most all Buddhist priests were thus rendered a body blow and perished. Not nice thing for Sankara, ascetic or not, but he took it in stride. That is victory of spiritual kind. He did not profit personally from his conquests nor did he amass immense wealth and power as a result.

Except for a name, Sankara did not own a thing. He begged for food and slept on bare ground, wore a piece of saffron cloth and walked barefoot all over the land called India. No wonder Sankara inspires. The sacrifice is the only way one achieves immortality.

Here is what a modern day Shankaracharya, Madhavananda of Prayag flogging the Devil worshipping Hindus, the kind of Vinay Kumar Reddy and another shit worm buddy of his, California computer coolie, perhaps a professor in University of Southern California, under an assumed names such as kick_pakis, sad heart saka and god knows how many other. Thanks to the Rediff dated September 23, 1999.

George Speight of Fiji is not Adi Sankara. As a matter of fact he is called a terrorist by heinous Hindus. What is the reason? Being a native Fijian, George Speight is challenging the Hindu prime minister, a progeny of a Hindu coolie.

Prabhakaran of Sri Lanka is no Sankara either. Prabhakaran is challenging his oppressors, Sri Lanka Sinhalese elected government. For heinous Hindus Prabhakaran is no George Speight. No one is evoking democratically elected Sri Lanka government being attacked as saviors of the land.

Manoj Prabhakar is no Sankara, he is not George Speight, Prabhakar is not even Prabhakaran of Sri Lanka. Prabhakar is challenging corrupt Hindus of India. The law says Prabhakar has committed crime in secretly taping confessions from the top notch cricket players, captains, CCI officers and what not. He is being sued for character assassination and defamation.
