Welcome to Tigray Online, this website is designed for all interested Ethiopians and alike to get and share information about Ethiopia and its people, contribute towards its development, prosperity and democratic system of government, to help stabilize the country and the Horn of Africa in general.

Ethiopia and its history as known to so many is rich in culture, tradition, long standing religious practices as well as freedom. As an African icon, its true colors are a symbol of freedom to the world and particularly to the African Continent.

Dear fellow Ethiopians,

Tigreans have endured so many hardships, wars and sacrifices for Ethiopia and its cause. They have consistently defended its territorial integrity for centuries paying huge sacrifices. Ethiopians of other ethnic group should be grateful for the sacrifices paid and hardships endured by these wonderful people. Their determination to bring Ethiopia in to the stage of world democratic nations and most importantly the equality of nations and nationalities through out our land must be admired and applauded. The nations and nationalities of Ethiopia have effectively supported the cause and are protecting their rights enshrined in the Ethiopian constitution. Tigreans did not fight to be superior from the other nations and nationalities in Ethiopia but to be equal and treated fairly along with them. There should be no body that is treated as a second class citizen in today's Ethiopia. Those days are gone and should be only remembered as our dark past history. Tigreans are equally very thankful for their partners in the path of democracy and struggle to eradicate backwardness, poverty and hunger from the face of our nation. Respecting and acknowledging the nations and nationalities equality, traditions, customs and beliefs is only natural to Tigreans as they have suffered a lot they don't want other nations and nationalities to be victimized similarly.

This editor believes hardships and wars are not pretty. When compared, some of our neighboring countries are caught in a turmoil similar to ours due to allocating of country's resources and investments disproportional to one group or the other consistently. Which reflects no fairness, and ignorance to others that should have an equal or at least a fair share. Ethiopia's problems could be overcome simply by respecting each others traditions and appreciating and celebrating our differences. No nation can neglect its citizens for who they are, it is simply not acceptable. Everybody should be treated equally under the law. And government should never be above the law. For this, we all have to work hard. Every citizen is equally responsible for its action or lack there of.

I believe there is no  perfect system in the world today but given our situation, the current Ethiopian political system addresses some of our underlying issues. Nations and nationalities are guaranteed equal rights and everyone of them are administering their national geographic areas. I believe this is a big achievement by it self. All we have to do is to look at what has been achieved objectively during these short 15 years. I believe this practice has opened a lot of doors for all Ethiopians to participate in their regional areas for development in unprecedented manner. Tigray for example have achieved a lot of tangible results in a very short period. Similarly the states of Oromia, Amhara, Afar, Somali, Gambella, Benishangul, Southern nations and nationalities etc... have all scored tremendous achievements in a short time in their respective regional states by popular participation. This is due to the government, the regional states and most importantly the people  taking the current administration system seriously and by putting mechanisms to put checks and balances in place. The stake holders and the beneficiaries are Ethiopian citizens residing at home.

I remember when I was in grade school my Amharic teacher used to say in class in the Amharic language "Haileselassie hulu le rase"; a short translation "Haileselassie all for me" indicating that during his reign, King Haileselassie and his cohorts worked very hard to enrich him themselves. Truly speaking it was not only Tigray that was deprived of the resources of the country but most of Ethiopia was. Therefore, the fight was for equality, all Ethiopians fought hard everywhere to achieve that.

Therefore, it is in all Ethiopians interest, regardless of their ethnic group fight hard to keep the system they most benefit from while correcting its flaws in order to secure a democratic system, an economic and military power house for the generations to come. Tigray Online believes it can contribute toward this very belief and more prosperous Ethiopia.
