Trevor Stewart picks up first win in 2001 at Golden Spike

    (Sauk Rapids, MN) - July 15. It was a hot and humind evening at the Golden Spike Speedway where the action on the track was hotter then the hot weather. Speedo the clown made an apperence to the Spike, he is visiting the upper midwest in the summer of 2001 who is from Florida.
    In the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds Trevor Stewart, Al Stewart and Jim Berglund picked up heat wins and the feature had Trevor Stewart being challenged by Jack Kipka but Stewart held Kipka off by using the low groove. Tony Proell took third followed by Dan Murray and Andy Simonson rounding out the top five.
    In the WISSOTA Street Stocks Dale Mathison, Scott Paulson, Jon Yilek, and Nelson took heat wins. First time racer Chad Finckbone of Grand Rapids who is number 10 in natianal points won the B Feature. Local man Jon Yilek of Sauk Rapids took a repeat as went on to win his second straight feature at the Spike. Chad Waltz came in second followed by Charlie Beens who had one of his best finishes this year. Dale Mathison, and Jason Claire rounded out the top five.
    In Short Tracker action Ryan Mead took the Main event.
    The new class of 2001 speedway sedans saw Craig Tschida taking hi car to victory lane.
    The crazy figure 8's had Cory Rosen surviving the the race and going on to win.
