St. Thomas University is extremely proud of its 20 member Big Band style dance band, "The Thomists". Founded in 1965 by former professor Harry Rigby, the group soon gained recognition for its efforts in keeping the music of the Big Band Era alive in New Brunswick, and indeed, across the Maritime Provinces. Now, almost forty years later, the band has the reputation for being one of the finest and most unique dance bands in Canada.... which is no mean feat for a small university that doesn't have a music department!
This non-commercial site is dedicated to the more than 225 people who have graced the bandstand over the years as "Thomists", and to our many friends and fans who have followed and supported us. We hope that this site will provide a nice nostalgia trip for you, and perhaps inspire younger musicians to join our ranks.
