Thomas Downing/Hopper Poems et al

Thomas Downing is who John Griffiths, an Associate Professor of English at Butler County Community College in Butler, PA, would have been under different circumstances. I’m kidding a bit about the pen name; actually, it’s just to honor a deceased relative. The poems posted here are part of my continuing dialog with Edward Hopper, the American realist painter, and Jo Hopper, his wife. These poems were previously published in Poetrymagazine.com., The Pittsburgh Post Gazette, or in my book of poems, The Man at the End of the Bench. I’m drawn most to Galway Kinnel, Mary Oliver, Harvey Stanbrough, Andrena Zawinski, Israeli poets Moshe Benarroch and Elisha Porat who are writing now; I favor Robert Frost, William Meredith, Marianne Moore, Gerald Manley Hopkins, and Emily Dickinson from the past.
I welcome comments about my poems and invite you to visit the web site links, especially the Hopper Painting web site. Good poetry to you and all that you love.
