My 35 Days in Europe: - by Thomas Bane

Between June 4 and July 10, 2002, I spent five awesome weeks in Europe.  I ended up seeing almost everything I had hoped to see and much more than I had actually planned.  I travelled by myself for the entire trip (except England) and ended up visiting seventeen different countries, although some for just a day.  This website is set up to show the people who care all the pictures I took from my trip (a somewhat overwhelming 324 of them).  You will find the pictures below, but first some words of advice.  Since this is a free webpage there is a limit to how much can be downloaded every hour.  For those of you with nothing better to do than look at my entire website at one sitting, you might encounter a problem because all of my pictures together exceed that limit.  You'll get a message somewhere saying that you'll have to try viewing my webpage at another time.  So without babbling any further, here is the rest of my page.  Enjoy.

Here is an overview of where I was and where I slept every day during my trip (straight from my journal)

Here is a list of all the interesting or good foods that I ate on my trip

If you're wondering how I made this webpage, here are all the details.

Picture Time:

1. London, England: (18 pictures) - My first three days in Europe were spent here in London with my friend Sarah who had just moved out of an apartment in the city.  We still spent two nights there with her old roommates, and had a ton of fun.

2. English Countryside: (11 pictures) - After London, Sarah and I drove three hours to her family's house in rural Somerset County (Southwest England).  We made side trips to Stonehenge, a biosphere in Cornwall County, and the coastal town of Lyme Regis. Oh yeah, and also a couple real English pubs.

3. Paris, France: (26 pictures) - After saying goodbye to Sarah at her farm, I took a bus back to London and then the Chunnel train to Paris.  I spent two nights at a hostel there and three days in the city seeing everything.  And finally at the end of my trip I also flew back home from here.

4. Madrid, Spain: (12 pictures) - I spent one night in Madrid at a hostel and two full days of sightseeing, including one of my trip's highlights watching a real bullfight.

5. Barcelona, Spain: (12 pictures) - I spent my first day in Barcelona withh Tiffany, a friend I met on the night train from Madrid.  After sleeping in a hostel, I was by myself for the second day to see the rest of the city.

6. Geneva, Switzerland: (7 pictures) - I arrived in Geneva in the morning aftter a night train and left the same night on another night train.

7. Florence, Italy: (8 pictures) - I spent one day and one night in Floreence.  I left the next morning, but not before seeing most of the important art here.

8. Rome, Italy: (26 pictures) - I only spent one night in Rome, but two full days of sightseeing allowed me to see I think most of the important things included the ancient sites and the Vatican City.

9. Venice, Italy: (13 pictures) - I slept in and out of Venice on the train, so just one day here, but it was an incredibly hot day.  Almost hot enough to jump in a canal, but the dirty polluted waters told me otherwise.

10. Vienna, Austria: (13 pictures) - I spent one day in the city and one niight in a hostel here, but left early the next morning.  I accomplished a lot of sightseeing though and even threw in some entertainment.

11. Budapest, Hungary: (17 pictures) - For some reason I really liked this ciity. Perhaps it was because everything was entirely cheap.  I spent one night and two days here.

12. Prague, Czech Republic: (14 pictures) - In my opinion, this city wasn't all itt was cracked up to be.  But I still had a good time, and I managed to take care of an eye problem I was having and even get new glasses. I spent two days and one night here.

13. Krakow, Poland: (19 pictures) - Only one day and no nights in Poland, but I still saw Auschwitz (an hour and a half hour bus ride away) and a lot of the city of Krakow.

14. Berlin, Germany: (13 pictures) - I only spent one day and one night in Berlin, but I still saw plenty including of course the Berlin Wall.

15. Hamburg, Germany: (5 pictures) - I was actually only here for less thann an hour for a layover and switch between trains, but this page includes pictures of the ferry to Denmark.

16. Copenhagen, Denmark: (19 pictures) - I was in Copenhagen two different timees.  The first time I spent two nights in a hostel and had a great time riding a bike around the city for a whole day.  The second time in Copenhagen was only during a short layover between Stockholm and Amsterdam.

17. Oslo, Norway: (14 pictures) - What I did here was pretty crazy. It was the only night on my trip where I didn't have either a bed, or even a seat on a train or boat to sleep in.  I just walked around the city all night long and left early the next morning on a train.

18. Helsinki, Finland: (14 pictures) - I was only here for a day, as I arriveed and left on night boats.  They seemed to me to be more like cruises though, after spending so many nights on stuffy trains.

19. Stockholm, Sweden: (12 pictures) - Coming from Oslo, I was in Stockholm ffor about 3 hours before I left for Helsinki (because it was raining too much).  After Helsinki I came back to Stockholm to spend the night in a hostel boat, but it was still raining most of the time.

20. Amsterdam, The Netherlands: (18 pictures) - My time in Amsterdam was split by visiits to Bruges and Luxembourg, but I spent two nights here among the crazy coffee (marijuana) shops and the Red Light District.

21. Bruges, Belgium: (13 pictures) - I spent one full day and a night in Brruges, but left early the next morning.  Not before eating some good waffles and chocolates though.

22. Luxembourg City, Luxembourg: (10 pictures) - I spent about 14 hours on the train too spend only about 3 hours in Luxembourg, but it was worth it, this being the last new country I would visit..

23. Haarlem, The Netherlands: (6 pictures) - I just spent a few hours here as theree wasn't much to see.  And with this being my last new city of my trip and my last full day in Europe I didn't have too much energy left.

24. Coming Home: (4 pictures) - This page shows my last dinner in Europe and a few pictures I took from my airplane window.
