Stonehaven, a small sea-side community in northeastern Scotland, lies just 15 miles south of Aberdeen. Originally a fishing village built around the High Street, its Bay provides the most sheltered harbour on the north-east coast. Dunnottar Castle, less than two miles south of Stonehaven, is one of Scotland’s gems & one of the most dramatically set fortresses in the world. Halfway between Stonehaven & Dunnottar Castle, stands the most unique War Memorial in all of Scotland. Originally dedicated on May 20, 1923 to honour the 162 Men and 1 Woman from the Stonehaven area who paid the ultimate sacrifice during World War One, 48 more names were added after World War Two for those who died in that war. Over the past 100 years, Stonehaven has also achieved world wide recognition for its famous Annual Fireballs Festival which brings each year to a close as thousands of people celebrate Hogmanay.

If you have an ancestor that came from Stonehaven, please feel free to add their name to our database by simply filling in the Request Form found on the Stonehaven Surnames page below.
