So he strolled on in jumped up on the couch took a long stretch yawned and went to sleep. I called Mom "There's a dog on our couch!" She came in from the kitchen and said "Hey, what are you doing? Get down off of there". He opened his squinty eyes and smiled at Mom. You could tell he liked her right off the bat. Mom wasn't impressed. She grabbed ahold of his long skinny tail and tried to pull him off the couch. He didn't seem to mind. He just stayed there. Mom yanked again But it barely budged him. So she got the flyswatter And smacked him good. He opened one eye Rolled over on his back And went back to snoozing. Jimmy and Wes came in to help And all four of us grabbed him by the legs and tail. He weighed a ton Even though he wasn't that big of a dog. Mom said she thought He must have eaten bricks. Mom got Daddy up and he came out of their bedroom his hair a mess and he got the corn broom from the kitchen and whacked the dog with it. He must not have like being broom beat because he got off the couch and ran away from Daddy into the kitchen the bedrooms the bathroom. Daddy was chasing him and waving the broom and whacking and yelling "Get out of here you ugly mutt!" Then the boys joined in yelling, chasing trying to scare the dog out the front door. After all the commotion was over and the dog chased outside and we were sitting down and Mom was getting us some lemonade the dog ambled back in. He got back on the couch stretched opened his mouth in a wide yawn where we could see his teeth and his tongue and black spots on the roof of his mouth and went back to sleep. I don't know who started it but we all laughed and laughed and the boys rolled on the floor holding their bellies and Mom had tears in her eyes and me too and so did Dad we just couldn't stop laughing. Afterwards, Mom and Daddy started smooching and me and the boys laughed at them and at the dog and at the whole wide wonderful world! It felt so good to laugh. We named him Tippie. Little did we know that God sent him to us for a reason.
