Synopsis of Unit:
A brief overview of aims, contents, methods and assessment
This unit will provide students with the oppununity to apply the wide
range of development skills (specification, design and implementation)to non
trival,real-world business information systems problem.Working as part of a development team they will be expected to deliver a quality system product to a client in a very professional manner.


Prerequisite(s):

Any Unit which must already have been taken at a
lower level,or any stipulated level of prior knowledge required
Either
CM043 Stuctured System Analysis and
CM050 Stuctured System Design or
CG020 Object-oriented Modelling 3

Corequisite(s):
Unit at the same level which must taken with this unit.

AIMS OF UNIT:
Specified in terms of general aim of the teaching in its relation to the subject.
1.To enable students to apply a wide range of development skills to a set of non trival,real-world business information systems
2.To provide the students with an opportunity to work as part of a development team in delivering a quality system product.
3.To enable students to demostrate a high degree of professionalism in their approach to developing and delivering a system product.

Learning Outcomes:
Specific in terms of performance capability to be shown on completion of the Unit.
on completion of this unit students should be able to :

1. select appropriate requirements and dsign and implementation strategies and methods for a business information system problem.

2. apply a single well-integrated requirements and design method to a business informatio system problem.

3. prototype a business information system design using an appropriately selection
development technique and tool.
4. apply appropriate planning and quality assurance techniques.

5. work to appropriate technical standards for documention,quality control and system integrity.
6. work to appropriate professional standards for system development and for conducting relationship with clients.

Outline Syllabus:
The content of the Unit,identified in a component listing.

The business system context and problem domain will be non-trivial but sufficiently focussed to allow the full range of development tasks to be completed.In selecting the project context,problem domain and deliverables,the following criteria should be met:-
1. They should closely reflect the context and problem domain of real world business information system;
2. Tasks and deliverables,should include system specification,design and prototyping.

3. Student support should be given and project review and assessment undertaken in a consultant client context;
4. The system specification and design should include a significant database component.
A prescribed case study(eg JR)will be followed by all teams.

Teaching And Learning Strategies:

Students will work in project terms, subject to regular self-review and periodic monitoring by unit tutors.Given clear and comprehensive briefing documentation,teams will carry out tasks unsupervised but weekly tutorials withy staff will be available on demand.
