Kayaking

Gliding in the water
No sound
Hardly breathing
Drip off the paddles
Fish underneath

Sounds from only the earth
Beaver slapping a tail
Diving, swimming under me
A fish jumps
The dragonfly lights on my bow
A turtle swims at my side

Deer splashing to the shore
A coyote watches, her pups yelping
Geese landing in the fog
An otter on his back staring at me
This is peace
Miraculous
My days in a kayak

Slipping over dams
In and out of streams
Silently around a bend
Watching a fawn drink

A bald eagle flies overhead
Ducks swim nearby
The sun rises
Through the fog
Reflecting on the water
Another day begins

Kayaking
Quickly in
Silently paddle
Close to the water
Invisible to much

Problems on shore
Thinking of nothing
Looking around
Beauty
This is life
My Life.
