December 12, 2001- Lee Ann at the Midwest Wireless Civic Center Well, if Lee Ann had hoped to see a little snow here in Minnesota, she was out of luck. December 12th was almost unseasonably nice for Minnesota, no snow yet and temps in the mid 30's. The show started at 7:30, so I got to the civic center about 6:30 so I would have time to get my Christmas single and find my seat. I had also heard the CMT promotional truck was going to be there, but I didn't see it. My seat was 13 rows, about 40 feet, from the stage. Not front row, but the closest I have ever been to the stage at a concert. At 7:30 the DJs from the local country station got up on stage and welcomed everyone and said Lee Ann would be out in "a while". No sooner had they left the stage, Lee Ann came out and sang one song, introduced the orchestra, and said she would let them play awhile and then she would be back to do some of her hits. I don't know much about orchestra type music, but I thought they sounded really good. They played for 30 minutes or so, then Lee Ann came back out, singing "Now You See Me (Now You Don't)". She must have done about 10 of her hits, "Never Again, Again", "Little Past Little Rock" That "I Hate Her" song as she referred to it as, "I'll Think Of A Reason Later", "Does My Ring Burn Your Finger", "You've Got To Talk To Me", etc. all with her band. Then the orchestra came back out and backed her on "Ashes By Now" and on an old Bob Wills song. They had a 20 or 30 minute intermission before she did her Christmas songs. She came back out and did her holiday music, a few classics, "Winter Wonderland", "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" etc. and a few songs I had never heard before. She did a duet with the leader of the orchestra, which, she said, had become the highlight of the show. It was pretty neat. She closed her holiday set doing "Silent Night". She sang it acoustically, with only her guitar player backing her. Then she left the stage briefly, then returned and closed the show with "I Hope You Dance". I'd have to say it was the best show I have ever attended. Lee Ann is an awesome singer. If you ever get the chance to see her, do so, you won't regret it! |
