What is TWD?

Trenchwars Divisions (TWD) is a fully automated squad league, consisting of three different tournaments:

TWDD (Trench Wars Dueling Division) is a 5 on 5 or 4 on 4 warbird (ship one) duel, with each warbird having 10 deaths to work with, it is a best of three set up, and you can change your lineup after each round. Each round has a twenty minute time limit, if one squad has not been eliminated (50 deaths) then the squad with the higher score at the end of 20 minutes will win the round.

TWJD (Trench Wars Javelin Division) is a 5 on 5 or 4 on 4 javelin (ship two) duel, with each player receiving 10 deaths in each round (best 2 of 3). Each round has a twenty minute time limit, if one squad has not been eliminated (50 deaths) then the squad with the higher score at the end of 20 minutes will win the round.

TWBD (Trench Wars Basing Division) is a 30 minute, 8 on 8 basing match-- similar to the pub flagging game. Teams will set lineups based on simple restrictions (1 terr, 2 shark, 4 spider maximum, no levs) and will be allowed 2 shipchanges during the match. The three most common lineups are Euro Style (1 Terr, 2 Sharks, 1 Jav, 4 Spiders), Western World Style (1 Terr, 2 Sharks, 2 Javs, 3 Spiders), and Pallies Style (1 Terr, 2 Sharks, 1 jav, 3 spiders, 1 warbird)- but I urge you to explore as many different combinations as you can. Points are scored for any kill, but the object of the game is to control the flag/base for as much of the 30 minutes as possible while killing your enemies, you could out kill your opponents 2:1 and still lose if you do not hold the flag. THE FLAG IS WHERE THE MONEY IS. At the end of 30 minutes, the high scoring team is the victor.

TWD is fully automated, all scoring and ranking is handled by 'Bots'.

Interacting with TWD You can keep up to date with the current TWD status in three ways, all of which are in 'Real Time'

The Web Page This is also fully automated and very easy to use. You will need to sign your squad up on the web page before you can begin your TWD run. http://www.twdivisions.org The web page is in constant contact with the bots and will update scores, game results, and squad ranking adjustments in real time (or near-real time).

The Ladder The Ladder system is the ranking system by which your squad will be judged (and you WILL be judged)- the scoring is less complicated than it appears, when you win a match you will be raised a certain number of points based on the rank of your opponent, same with when you lose.

The Bots Before I even get into the bots, know this, if you are ever in a match/arena and feeling confused (captains and assistants) you can type !help to the bots (they will be called MatchBot, Matchbot1, etc) and they will give you a list of commands to help you out.

All the information you'll need for the bots is in the MatchBot guide found here The bots will be in constant communication with the website and will record individual and squad results of each game. It will also update your ladder ranking so you'll know where you stand near-instantly.

If you are having major problems you can always type ?help while you're in subspace and someone will do their best to help you, but once you get this stuff figured out (won't take more than one match) it's easy cheese and is going to be a real good time in space.

It's not terribly complicated, just make sure you log in, and have each of your squad members sign up, then you can just get to your roster and click accept on them. You can have 3 captains and 5 assistants (all of whom can challenge and accept matches)- I recommend using as many of these spots as possible so your squad can play as much as possible, not everyone's going to earn (or want) the TWL spots, so it's really just to get new players interested in league play.

To sign up a squad

Step 1: Enter SSCU Trench Wars with the alias you intend to use for TWD and go to the arena TWD (type ?go TWD).

Step 2: Create an account by private messaging the bot in that arena (TWDBot) with your password. To do this private message the bot with Remember, private messaging any bot with !help will give you a list of available commands.

Step 3: Go to http://www.twdivisions.org and log in, either through the link on the left of your screen, or using the login section at the top. Use the alias you were using when you created your account and use the password you told the bot.

Step 4: If you are the squad captain and you want to sign up your squad click sign up squad at the left of the page. Enter your squad name and click sign up. The application must be approved before your squad members can join the squads roster.

To join a Squad If you are a member of a squad already signed up and want to join the squads roster click roster and select your squad from the drop down list. At the bottom of the roster it will say ‘click here to apply if this is your squad’. Click that and wait for your squad captain to accept your application to join the roster.

Note: Every member of a squad must go through this process to be eligable to play in prac or league matches. To play in any prac or league matches you must always be using the alias that is on the roster and be ?squadjoined to the correct squad.

As always if you have any questions about SSCU Trench Wars or SubSpace/Continuum in general go into Trench Wars and type ?help followed by your question and we will do our best to help you.

What are MatchBots? The bots that will be hosting your Trench Wars Division matches are called MatchBot, an intelligent program created by Mythrandir that should make your TWD matches easy and quick (hosting wise that is). To all captains and assistants of any squad it is vital that you know the commands of MatchBot and how to use them.

Public commands Before we start, there is only 1 command open to the public this is: !cap – This command is available to all players and will list the online captains and assistants of the two playing squads.

NOTE: Players must be both squad-joined on the roster at www.twdivisions.org AND in game to be allowed to play for a squad. Any roster changes take around 20 minutes to get to the bot, so if you’re adding new players to the roster there is a waiting period of 20 minutes.

How to organise a match To challenge a squad, go to an arena that is not being used and Private Message the monitoring MatchBot with “!challenge ”. Please note that only the captains or assistants of a squad can use this command. When challenging a squad, the challenged squad will receive a Squad Private Message from MatchBot asking them if they want to accept the challenge.

Although the whole squad receives a Private Message from MatchBot about the challenge, only captains and assistants can accept it. To accept a challenge, the captains or assistants of the challenged squad must Private Message MatchBot with “!accept ”. If the challenged squad accepts the challenge, then a game will load in that arena and both teams have 5 minutes to choose their teams.

Use of the bot before and during a match (TWDD/TWJD) Once the game has been loaded it has a validity time of 5 minutes. This means that captains/assistants of a squad have 5 minutes to select their team and start the match. If the validity time elapses and you cannot start the match, just re-challenge the squad.

Picking your team is done by using the “!add” command. TWDD and TWDJ bots are similar, to add a player you PM MatchBot with “!add ” and the bot automatically sets the ship of that player and puts him/her onto the squad’s freq. A captain or assistant must pick at least 4 players then once your team is ready, you must PM MatchBot with “!ready” and an arena message will show up signifying that your team is ready. If you’ve already used the command but find that you have a lagout, or one of your players is unavailable to play. Then use the “!ready” command again and another arena message will pop up saying that you are not ready.

To remove a player from your team use the “!remove” command, this command is only available before the game starts and is not available after the game starts. If you need to substitute a player during the match use “!sub :” where Player A is the player you want to take out of the match and Player B being the player to go in. This command is only available during the game; it is not available before the game when adding players. Use the “!remove” and “!add” commands for substitutions before the match starts. The maximum amount of substitutions allowed in a game is 3.

When both teams are ready, MatchBot will warp the teams to the safes and lock the doors. If anyone warps out or in the case of TWJD, gets teamkilled, then MatchBot will warp the players back into the safes. Teams are told that the match will begin in 30 seconds then a 10 second warning will pop up before the match begins. If a player is on the squad’s roster but not playing during the match they can use the command “!myfreq” to get on the squad’s freq. 5v5 is the default match however, 4v4 matches can be played and if teams find another player they can be put in at any time. If a player lagouts, they can use the “!lagout” command to MatchBot to get back in the game, the maximum number of lagouts permitted is 3 but there is no time limit. TWDD and TWJD matches are best of 3, 20 minute rounds each. Use of the bot before and during a match (TWBD) Again, once the challenged squad has accepted the challenge it will have a validity time of 5 minutes. Basing involves more commands and extra information that needs to be given to the bot. First of all, when adding players to your team you will have to include what ship you want them to enter as, this is done by entering the player name then the ship number, separated by a colon: “!add :”.

Like javelin and duelling, the “!remove command” is available to take off any players you do not want playing and again this is only available before the game starts. Other commands used for basing are “!switch :” this can be used to switch the ships of any two players in your team. The order of players doesn’t matter and the maximum amount of switches permitted is unlimited. The change command is used to change an individual player’s ship by Private Messaging MatchBot with “!change :”, only 2 ship changes are permitted during the match. In past Trench Wars Leagues, ship changing has not been permitted however under new Trench Wars Division rules 2 ship changes are allowed for strategy changes. Like javelin and duelling, you may have up to 3 substitutions by using the “!sub” command and the “!ready” command is also used when your team is ready. “!list” is more important for basing as you will need to be kept a briefing on who is in what ship. The policy for the “!lagout” command is also different in basing, players have unlimited lagouts however a 15 second waiting period for re-entry is used from when the player Private Messages “!lagout” to MatchBot. TWBD matches last 30 minutes long and there is only 1 round. Minimum of 5 players, maximum of 8.

Rules

The Roster

1. At this moment, there is NO limit on the amount of squadmembers a squad can have. Keep it within reasonable boundaries, and I won't have to restrict it.

2. Up to 3 captains are allowed per squad. A captain can edit the squad profile, accept players to the squad, kick players, promote players to assistants or captains. And ofcourse, captains can start and control TWD games.

3. Up to 5 assistant are allowed per squad. Assistants don't have power over the squad roster, but they do have the power to start and control TWD games.

4. Every change in the roster takes about 15 minutes to come to the bot. So if you promote someone to assistant, he'll have to wait for 15 minutes until he actually has assistant powers in the game.

5. There's a 3 day eligibility period, which means that each new player to the roster has to wait for 3 days until he can play in TWD games. The 3-day eligibility period will come into effect from 2003-01-13

6. A player can only have ONE name in the TWD roster. If the same player is found to have multiple nicks in one squad, then a TWD-Op will randomly delete one of them.

7. If a player is found to have multiple nicks on multiple TWD squads (doublesquadding), he'll get banned for an amount of days, and removed from both the squads. Depending on the involvement of one or more captains with the doublesquadder, the entire squad might get their rating reset to 900 and banned for a number of days.

The Game

Dueling (Warbirds)

1. After the game has been initiated, both squads have 5 minutes time to get at least 4 warbirds in the game (that is: in ship #1 and joined on the team freq). If one of the squad doesn't have enough warbirds in the game, it forfeits the round. If both squads don't have enough warbirds in the game, then the round is declared a draw.

2. A normal dueling game is 5v5. If either of the squads start with 4 players, they get 10 deaths to their disadvantage. During the game the squad can add a 5th player anytime they want.

3. During a round, a squad can utilize ONE substitute

4. Warbird dueling is Best Of 3 Rounds. Which means that the first squad that wins 2 rounds, wins the entire game.

5. Each round takes 20 minutes. If the scores of the squads are the same at the end of the 20 minutes, the game will be extended for 5 minutes more. If it's still a draw, the round will be declared a draw

6. There's a maximum of 5 rounds, which means that there's a maximum of 2 draws.

7. If during the line-up process one squad fails to put in any player, that squad forfeits the entire game. If both squads don't add at least one player in the game, then the entire game will be declared void.

Javelin

1. see the rules mentioned in the 'Dueling (Warbirds)' section.

2. When you spawn in the game, you have 30 seconds to get in the base. If you don't get in base in time, you'll get removed from the game, that round.

3. The border between 'outside base' and 'inside base' is 5 TILES below the LOWEST part of the base. So you have enough room to skirt along the bottom of the base.

4. Keep this in mind: once you spawn, the timer starts. If you get in base, and then, 1 minute later, go outside base, you'll get specced immediately, without warning. After all, the 30 seconds have passed.

5. The score of your team is the sum of the DEATHS of the team of your enemy.

Basing

1. Basing is meant to be 8v8. Both squads should show at least 5 players. During the game, both squads are allowed to fill their team until they have 8 players. 2. NO levs are allowed.

3. Only 1 terrier is allowed.

4. You can use a maximum of 2 sharks.

5. You can use a maximum of 4 spiders.

6. All of the other ships have no limits in use.

7. A basing game consists of ONE 30 minute long round. The team with the highest score wins.

8. During that 30 minutes, a squad can use:
a. 2 shipchanges
b. 3 shipswitches
a. 3 substitutes

Extra

1. If Matchbot lags out of the arena, then the game that was currently going on will be declared void.

2. Every TWD game is being LOGGED for 100%.

3. If you have complaints about the behaviour of a staffmember, or Matchbot is supposedly messing up the game, fill up the contact form. Specify your complaint, when it happened, and what squads were playing.

4. Depending on the seriousness of the complaint, it will or will not be dealt with.

The Ladder 1. Each Division (dueling, javelin, basing) has its own ladder. This ladder is based on the rating of the squad.

2. To be displayed in one of the ladders, you have to have played at least 5 games of TWDD/TWJD, or 3 games of TWBD. This goes into effect from 2003-01-13

3. To be displayed in one of the ladders, you have to have played at least one game of that Division in the past 3 days (or 7 days for TWBD). This goes into effect from 2003-01-13

4. The rating formula can be found at: TW Forum - ELO Rating System
