The Sukuyan ("Suke-anoo," as Vincys call it) is a West Indian creature of legend, who flies through the air at speeds faster than light. He is what others call a vampire.

Back in the old days in St. Vincent, the only mode of travel was by boat and not very often. Only once a week did the boats travel down "the keys" (as the lower Grenadines are called), carrying cargo, mail and passengers.

One day, at the docks in Kingstown, St. Vincent, a strange looking man came asking for passage on one of the boats, and he was taken on.

For three days, the boat sailed southwards. When the boat reached the last island on it's trip, before it made it's return back to the mainland, the man got off. He was told that he'd have to wait until the following week for a return trip. The man shrugged.

Three days later, when the boat had reached back to the mainland, who did they see, but that very same man they had left behind on the last island. A look of astonishment spread over the faces of the crew. One of them shouted, "Hey mon! How you get back so fast?"

The man shrugged mysteriously, while another crew member shouted, "He flew mon! He flew!"
