Many times upon a moonless night, while walking in the bush on Bequia, people have seen a light away out yonder over the hills, in an uninhabited part of the island. A light where no light should be, and no reason for it and the way it moved.

Many people have claimed to see these lights up close. They say it appears as a huge floating ball of fire, and when one moves towards it it moves away. Then suddenly it goes "poof!" and disappears.

This is what they call a "jack-o-lantern" and some believe it is a spirit manifestation, while others say it is a collection of tropical gases that ignites from the rising ground heat of the evening.
