When a state official was making his rounds, accompanied by Sheriff Charles Decree,
checking on the supply question for Steele in a visit to the various towns to see what the cities
furnished for their officials he found that Roll Armstrong, our night watchman, supplies his own gun
and other equipment needed for his job.
Some days later, Mr. Armstrong was surprised with a cap, bright and shiny, a leader, a
night stick, and a left hand holster, and another star. Now he says a blind man can tell that he is
an officer. He didn't want a uniform when that question was put to him as he prefers the old
standby blue serge he has duplicated and worn during the eight years he has been on the
job.
Mr. Armstrong shoots left handed, was once a cowboy and can tell us many stories of the
other days when he didn't hold down quite such a peaceful line of work as he is doing now. To be
forewarned is to be forearmed and our night watchman is certainly well armed now, for any
emergency.
