THE THIRD FEAR
The Third Fear is my first, and probably last, zombie movie. This was another idea I'd had in my head for some time before I finally had the opportunity to make it. The story is very simple and unoriginal: A man is chased by a member of the undead. It was filmed in one saturday with Jo Kitt as Assistant Director, Tom Hooker as the chased man, and Joshua Mullin as the zombie.

Shooting was fairly straight-forward and accident free. It was a very cold day, but as we spent most of our time running around, or driving to different locations, it wasn't too bad. I had planned to start the shoot early in a local graveyard, where Tom would first encounter the zombie. This was to be my homage to Night of the Living Dead. However, due to a mix-up that's too complicated to go into, we ended up not getting started until after nine o'clock, when it would have been impossible to be indescreet in a graveyard with a camera and a zombie.

Josh's make-up was provided by my wife Sarah, and the suit was from a charity shop. He found it difficult to remain expressionless and kept bursting into laughter. Both he and Tom took direction from me very well. This was the first time I'd worked with actors in quite a long time, and I enjoyed the experience. I kept Tom and Josh running all day, whilst Jo pushed me in a wheelchair to produce some convincing tracking shots.

I was pleased with the final movie, which is about seven minutes long. I edited it to free music I downloaded from the internet, and most of it was quite effective. I've always had a soft spot for comedy horror, and I'm glad to have had a go at it myself. I really appreciate all the work that my friends put into it as well.
