Dhofar 726

33° 35' N / 99° 48' W

On June 25, 2001 two stones totaling 262 grams were found on the surface of the desert in Oman, this is most of one of them. Dhofar 726 is an ordinary chondrite (L6 shock 2 weather 4) classified by S.Afanasiev, Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

This is the Main Mass of Dhofar 726 meaning that it is the largest remaining piece intact; usually this means it also makes up the majority of the total known weight and in this case that's right. With 170 grams in my collection, it seems logical and as far as i can tell, the Russian Academy of Sciences is the only other holder of this meteorite.
