May 2003 New and Tidied Up - The Philosophy Place
Hi there, thank you for taking the time to visit my site!
I first developed this site in February 2001, but sadly abandoned it! I returned last year to find the bulletin board had 'died' and become an advert! A shocking state to leave the place, I have finally tidied The Philosophy Place up! What is philosophy? 'Philosophy' literally means a love of knowledge. The way I see it is that philosophers are interested in questions which have no conclusive answer. Philosophy has many branches, including - Aesthetics - the study of beauty. For example, 'What makes something beautiful?'. Ethics - study of moral issues. For example, 'What makes an act good?'. Philosophy of Science - philosophical aspects of science. For example, 'What counts as scientific proof?'
What can YOU tell us about philosophy? I am a university graduate of Philosophy and Psychology and I am particularly interested in Philosophical Psychology. However, studying philosophy doesn't necessarily make you good at it. Philosophy can be a very difficult subject, but everyone can offer insight. In fact even pre-school children can make very astute observations. So, I would not claim to be an expert, merely a person who would like to take part in interesting discussions with others. Having studied philosophy though, I will be able to tell you a little about famous philosophers views on the area of discussion and give you the names of useful references :-)
What the site is NOT about I am not pretending to be able to offer full and comprehensive
coverage of all issues. Please do not e-mail me in anger telling me that I
have misinterpreted points. I can only write about my own understanding
of the issues :-) To contact me - thephilosophyplace@yahoo.co.uk
Please sign my Guestbook so that I know what you think of the site! |
