Minutes of Fame
IInterview
with "a normal human being", Ray Lo, International Student |
Editorial:
Hi! Welcome to TOA!
"...Here, I came to witness and experience Asian people
taking control of their own collective consciousness on a massive scale.
This realisation that Asians are capable of agency and initiative gave
me an exhilarating feeling of increased self- confidence and allowed me
to dare to dream beyond any limits that I may have placed on my goals...
Because I live in Australia, almost every thing that I see in mainstream
media is saturated with ‘whiteness’, whether its focus is domestic or international.
This lack of adequate minority-race representation in the media subconsciously
perpetuates the linkage of twin qualities of ‘humanness’ and ‘civilisation’
to the represented majority in the media - the white race..." |
Feature:
Asian Eclipse:
Exploring the Dark Side of Business in Asia.
"...The Economic crisis was not caused by George Soros,
conspiratorial international bankers and not even by the CIA as some in
Asia have claimed, but rather the Asian crisis was caused by Asia." |
Health:
Scent
and Sensitivity
"To cut or not to cut? Indeed the choice to circumcise
or not has been the topic of debate for many years, and probably even centuries.
Boys from different cultures and religions are circumcied or left uncircumcised
for different reasons."
|
Identity:
Blackhead on burnt chops, fried onions and tomatoe
sauce.
“Malvern” I would reply with a deliberate smirk. “No,
I mean where are you really from?” they would insist, staring fixedly at
my black hair and dark inscrutable eyes".
|
Opinions:
Economic Exploitation and The U.S. Economy: China Should
Reject the PNTR Deal and Refuse the UNited States Access to Its Vulnerable
Markets. "...China must source out ways and methods to which might better
manage China. It must implement a system which,..."addresses the opinions
of the experts, general public and the politicians at the same time." |
Chinese Film Festival
Yep, it was the Chinese Film Festival all right, there
were misplaced funeral decorations, bad hairdos from the 20's and pretty
Chinese actresses who can't speak a word of English. |
The Sydney Asia Pacific Film
Festival
The festival was well atttended, with over 3000 people
squeezing into Chinatown's Reading cinemas. |
Poetry In Motion
Glides by
Like an idle throught Survived by
An array of circumstance
In retrospect |
