| this is the re-post of a thread that originally started on the official marilyn manson bbs back in (i think) october 2000 with the topic 'was jesus a historical person'.... which with freegrace joining in, it developed into a discusssion of all kinds of opinions - christian and atheist and everything in between - on life, the universe and everything... the thread posted here is in fact only the 3rd (though the longest) part, starting jan. 12th 2001 and ending only with the end of the bbs march 29th 2001, after 50 pages and almost 1000 posts for myself i can say it taught me respect for others and their opinions, even if i still disagree violently with some things, it forced me to take a less narrow outlook, even though i'm still mostly atheist & definitly not christian. more than a discussion of religious issues it became a place for meeting, for sharing ideas, and at least for me sometimes also a place for emotional support. the discussion survived two archive sessions, but when artistdirect.com decided not to host the bbs anymore and we were given what to some is known as 'the ghetto board' instead, we discoverd that places apparently have their aura / magic / whatever you like to call it, of their own... people started drifting off, the whole thing finally fell apart... however, people still seem to be interested in it, and personally i still think this is one amazing piece of internet interaction, a prove that the web needn't be only about quick chat & short attention span & but can be a means of bringing people together in a serious discussion. i think it's something that deserves publicity, even if it's only the limited publicity of my site... however, though i'm the one posting it now, it wasn't my thread as much as rictus's freegrace's, and probably most of the other participants' , i just happened to be the person to jump out of bed at 3 am & save it to disk...still, i'd like to say thanks to everyone who participated, for intellectual input, for putting up with me, for supporting me - you all helped me at one time or the other.... you know who you are no thanks to artistdirect.com for deciding not to host this bbs & giving alomost no warning before taking it down no thanks either to the management of marilynmanson.com, who after 3 months still havn't thought it worthwhile to get up a decent bbs. it was a special place once. some technical information: i didn't edit anything except the stretch on some of the later pages... even though i'm nostalgic about much on the old bbs, but that would be taking authenticity too far... however, the rest, including the general bitching & bickering towards the end is genuine. because i basically just copied & pasted the text signature pictures are lost in the process & links don't work, though i might link the pages with each other, when i'm done posting.... veronika / rosa mcgee / atossa |
