The Healing Harp

Mary Sublett and Daniel Morrow
LIVE AT LUCKY'S

Using live harp and vocal music to enable patients to better respond to healing.
.

Mary Sublett, harpist

Method:

The bedside use of live harp and vocal music enhances stimulation and creates more lively and coherent interaction and promotes healing in persons with stress, blood pressure disorders, arthritis, renal disease, cancer, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, multiple sclerosis, muscle disorders, Lou Gehrig's Disease, Alzheimer's Disease, chronic pain, anxiety depression, communication difficulties, and many other diseases and disabilities.

Harp music contributes an essential component of the healing process because the full spectrum of vibrating strings and the vibrations of the sound board produce a flowing sound which resonates throughout the entire body. The addition of the human voice with its variations of timbre and personal aural contact brings with it another dimension which evokes response and healing.

Background:

The positive results of music healing have been well documented throughout history. The multi-dimensional qualities of harp music allow it to touch physical, psychological, social, emotional, and spiritual levels of consciousness. Harp music helps patients cope with illness and with the isolation that can accompany hospitalization. Music can break the cycle of chronic pain by relieving anxiety and and depression and can facilitate stress reduction and relaxation, opening lines of positive communication between patient and caregiver.

Mission:

The Healing Harp is a service provided by volunteer musicians as a ministry to the soul and body of the of the seriously and terminally ill. Our intention is to be on call at the bedside of those in need at the hospital or nursing home.
