Introduction - "Beyond Earth"

Aurora's tattoo

Cold Blue orbs followed my movements. They watched me from within the shadows of his face. A face struggled with emotion that never touched his eyes. That never let a tear fall. This boy, who had endured so much pain, could not let one single tear fall.

“Tell me,” he said.

I sighed while I looked away from him and those inhumanly blue eyes. “John, I don’t think…”

“Tell me again, Aurora,” he whispered. His face was distraught, but hastily he kept his emotions at bay.

I wanted to…I didn’t know what I wanted. I wanted to help him, but that wasn’t what he was looking for. I looked down, not understanding his need to hear it again and again, but not able to deny him either.

“It’s inconceivable that so much pain could be felt at one point,” I began. “But that is what I felt…pain. Not just the pain of one individual, but of your whole entire planet, John. Earth, no matter how many times I have my vision, is ruined. The sky that is so blue turns a glutinous black as if it is made from a solid substance. It hasn’t changed and it never will. The sky, the pain, and the horrible view of the shores of your planet covered in ash and rubble. It all stays the same, a vicious cycle of surrealistic events. And maybe that will be how it will end for Earth. I don’t know, John, I can’t honestly say my visions are absolute. But that is what I saw, and that is what I know.”

I looked up at him for I wanted him to understand he could tell me how he felt, or how much he felt he lost if my vision did come true. And, especially, I wanted him to understand that he must go on.

“But you are here, now, on my planet Andromeda. And Earth’s fate is what you must accept. By some magic, you were brought here. And here is where you will stay, without hope to save your planet, as much as you wish you could. I have some power. But even I cannot help you.” He didn’t say anything, nor did he give any response that leaned towards understanding me. Just blue eyes that looked almost right through me. It was as if I wasn’t even there, and all my words were not heard.

“You must stop living like this, John,” I whispered. “It’s ok, you know. The whole entire world has crumbled around you and all you want to do is listen to how it will happen over and over again. You need to stop this. You need to let go…”

“Don’t you think I know that?” he snapped. His rage filled within his features and slowly distorted them from the handsome boy I knew. “Do you think I enjoy this? I have tried with everything I have to understand this…” He paused as he struggled with the emotion. “But what I don’t understand is how the hell some stupid magic could save me, but not save anyone else. Why me? My family, my home, my friends…everything is gone. Everything, damn it!”
“And it’s not your fault!” I shouted. “Don’t you get it? You did not kill them just because you survived.”

He sighed.“But it sure feels that way…”
