COFFIN -

Last year I wanted a coffin to go in my front yard. I searched the internet and found plans for one on someones’ website. Unfortunately it was very heavy and very expensive (uggh!). So I adjusted the plans slightly and built the coffin below. Once I can get a set of plans drawn up with measurements and cut angles, I’ll add them to this page.

The Coffin…

I wanted to build a coffin but it had to be light weight and in-expensive. I decided to build the frame out of 1x2 lumber and cover it with 1/4in plywood.

First I built the bottom frame, attaching it together glue and 2 1/2in screws. I added two support pieces and covered the bottom with plywood.

After the bottom was done I built up the sides with 12 inch lengths of 1x2 and started to add the top frame pieces. Once they were in place I covered them with plywood and taped the edges so that they were smooth and solid.

A couple of coats of black paint and a liner made of red material and the coffin was finished. For my first attempt, I am very pleased with the result. The coffin is light weight, but durable and the effect is very good when a Bucky is placed inside of it. It was quite inexpensive (<$35) and best of all, it fits up my attic stairs. Oh, and I know, I forgot to paint the bottom…
