In case anything bad happens at the LAN, you won't miss out on all the games.
It would be a crime to forget your good old body bag!  You or someone you know just might need it after all the intense action!

Here is a Map to our Event.

Below are driving directions from Interstate-94

Take the Michigan Ave. exit.  The exit doesn't actually put you on Michigan Ave, it puts you on 11 Mile Rd.  Turn left onto 11 Mile Rd.  At the stoplight, turn right.  You are now on Michigan Ave.  Go about one mile down Michigan Ave.  On the right you will see a big church with three flagpoles on the corner.  The street immediately after the flags is 10 Mile Rd.  Turn right on 10 Mile.  The Robin's Nest is the second building on the left.  You will see two robins on the corner, a deck in the middle of the building and a tree in the center of the driveway.

Frequently Asked Questions:

 1.      Can we smoke in the LAN?

Answer: Smoking is not allowed in the building; however, you can smoke outside.

2.      Can we drink alcoholic beverages at the LAN?

Answer: Drinking is not permitted on the building grounds.

3.      What is a “Ping” and what does it have to do with me?

Answer: In simple terms your “Ping” is how quickly your computer is communicating with a server or another computer on the network.  The lower the ping, the better performance you will have over that network.  This is important because if you are playing a network game and someone is getting a 20 ping and you are getting a100 ping; the computer with a 20 ping will have an advantage.

4.      Give me an example of a good ping.

Answer: 0-35 great, 36-65 good, 67-80 average, 80-100 below average, 100 and up, poor.

5.      So will I have a great ping at your LAN?

Answer:  Good pings depend on a lot of things; these are just a few of the important ones.

1. The quality and speed of the network hubs.

2. The capabilities of the Dedicated serving machines.

3. The Quality and capabilities of your network card.

4. The Quality and capabilities of the server’s network cards.

5. The amount of computers and activity on the network.

We are using state of the art “Switching Hubs” which have been hailed in magazines and reviews as being some of the speediest hubs in the market.  All are our network cards are quality and 100mbs ready.  All our dedicated serving machines are powerful and we have more than one machine so that file sharing and gaming will never be on the same computer.  We even have 1 Gigabit (2000mbs) hub and card in our primary server.  In short everything about our serving system was designed with “Low Ping/High Bandwidth” in mind.  Our server has tested with computers getting as low as 1 pings over our network.  I’ve never seen any computer over 50 ping on our network.

The network card inside your computer has a lot to do with your ping. If you are receiving a high ping and no one else is, it is probably your card.  No two pings are the same and they don’t remain the same number all the time.  They will move higher and lower at various times.

6.      What is a DS (Dedicated Server)?

A dedicated sever is a computer on the network which sole purpose is to run, serve, or host data on a network.  We have 4 DS’s (dedicated servers).  The purpose for 4 machines is so that each computer can perform a different task.  Machine 1 will be a file server so that you may get mp3’s and other things.

Not everyone at LAN parties do the same thing at the same time.  Some will be playing games, and yet others will be sharing files.  To share files and host a LAN game on the same machine would increase the amount of work that machine has to do.  In the end this might hurt game performance (everyone’s ping) and the file sharing speed for others.  Using separate machines for each task insures a swift, performing network, no matter what you’re doing.  Please see Equipment Manifest for complete server information.

7.      Can we burn or bootleg software at the LAN?

Answer: As you commonly know, copying some software is illegal.  We are not the FBI, nor will we call them if you do.  However we are law bound to inform you of the risks in copying software illegally.  Make your own decision to this question based on the risks involved and how you feel.

*WE TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY, NOR DO WE INDORSE OR PROMOTE ILLEGAL SOFTWARE COPYING.*

8.      Is gambling allowed at the LAN?

Answer: No, however we have cash prize tournaments.  These tournaments are not considered gambling as long as you report your winnings to the IRS! Heh heh!

9.      May we bring Food and drink to the LAN.

 Answer: Sure.

10. At the Colosseum website, there are 4 tiny red dots in various places of your page.  One being right on the top Colosseum home page graphic just under “Thou shalt be fragged,” what are these, and what do they mean?

Answer:  As we’ve said time and again.  We don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.  We don’t see anything.  You must be seeing things.

11. Will you have extra equipment such as keyboards, mice and network cables just in case we forget to bring them.

Answer: Yes, a VERY limited supply, your best off making sure you have all the stuff you need before you leave home.  Please refer to the list at the top of this page for what to bring.

12. Will there be any additional charges at the LAN besides the 10 dollar entry fee?

Answer:  At this point no, in the future we may offer CD burn disks at purchase cost (around 25 cents a piece) to our guests, and perhaps other things.  Our tournament events will have an additional cost.

13.  Where does my 10 bucks go after I give it to you?

Answer: We use all the money to attempt to break even on the cost of the LAN party.  As locations for the LAN need to be rented, and hubs and other equipment necessary to keeping our servers up-to-date cost money.

14. Can we bring infant children to the LAN?

Answer: Two questions: Do they cry a lot? Are they good at Unreal Tournament?  We would prefer if you did not bring infant children to the LAN.

15. What about young children like Minors?

Answer: Minors (under the age of 18) must to have parental permission, or be accompanied by an adult.

16. Do you charge people who come to the LAN without a computer?

Answer:  If you’re coming to the LAN just to observe NO.  But no matter if you bring a computer or not. If you play, you pay.  We do offer food and drink at our events.  The food is all you can eat and is free to all that have paid their 10 dollars admission.

17.  So if I don't pay to get in; I can't eat anything.

Answer:  Not exactly.  If you have come only to observe and don't eat; the cost of the LAN is nothing.  But if you are an observer and would like to eat; we ask you pay 5 dollars for the same all you can eat rights.

18.  How long do your events usually go?

Answer:  Usually from around 11am to 1am.  In other words - 14 hours.

19.  Do you play a lot of Counter Strike at your events.

Answer:  NO!  We do not support Counter Strike on our servers.  You are welcome to organize CS with anyone at the event and serve your own games but please do not ask The Colosseum staff to serve CS.
