Alex's story is one of hope.  On April 17, 1998, at 4 1/2 months he was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms, a form of Epilepsy.  Up until then, he was a normal, healthy baby boy.

After experimenting with several meds and combination of meds including
ACTH injections, we were told that Alex had intractible seizures (seizures that are not controlled with medications).

Several tests suggested a focal point.  This meant that the seizures were originating from a particular area of the brain vs. from all over (generalized).

We opted for surgery and in March 1999 he had 70% of the left hemisphere of his brain removed in
Detroit.

Immediately following surgery he had a twinkle in his eye that told us he was there.  We had freed the demon that kept him trapped inside his little body. The change was miraculous.

Nineteen months later Alex walks, says some words, and communicates to us what he wants.  He's a very affectionate little boy who enjoys playing with his older brother and kissing his baby brother.

** Alex on NBC **
Since Alex's first surgery in 1999, we've been lucky to have our local NBC affiliate (Channel 10) share his story with others.  Barbara Morse, Healthcheck Reporter worked with us a few years. Alison Bologna covered the last surgery.
One of my goals in life is to spread awareness about epilepsy.
Increased awareness = increased funds for research.
Here are 2 of the stories they've done for us.
